X-Factor Casefile: The Sting: Paperwork

Bobby and Jess dig their way through the paperwork Sue provided. An unpleasant surprise awaits them at the end.

Jessica's eyes hurt. She felt as though she'd been sorting through this data for hours, and the light from the screen was starting to take its toll. She'd found a few things that could be potentially helpful, but otherwise she and Bobbi had spent most of their time simply scrolling through what was given to them.

"I'm coming up with nothing. Find anything yet?" Jessica asked her blonde counterpart.

"No, sadly." Bobbi was getting tired of the search herself, and she'd already taken several breaks for tea in order to keep her awake and focused. She stifled a yawn and continued scrolling through the umpteenth document of the evening. "This is far more tedious than I remember." Her former job had required more paperwork than she'd wanted, which was one of the reasons why she left, and this was providing a stark reminder of that fact.

She closed the file she'd just finished, then arched her back and stretched her arms over her head, flexing her fingers until they snapped. "This is not my idea of a good time, for the record."

"Oh god, no. I mean, I'm used to paper work. Before Adri and X-Factor, I worked for a guy that made me do ALL the paperwork. For free. That bastard." She answered. "I'd much rather be out there kicking some ass. Or you know, spying on people. Those are both fun." Jessica answered with a grin.

"They are, and both are miles ahead of all of this," Bobbi said with a groan as she opened up yet another file and started scanning through it. "Like, take a look at this file. It's completely unremarkable, just like every other one, except for... wait a second." She squinted and moved closer to the monitor, sitting up a little straighter as she re-read what she'd just found.

"Come on Bobster, tell me you found something." Jessica interjected excitedly as she moved her stiff body over to perch near Bobbi's shoulder.

"I don't want to jinx it but yeah, I think so." Bobbi motioned for Jessica to come over, waving her hand while keeping her eyes fixed on her monitor, afraid to look away for fear she'd lose sight of what she'd found. "Just read that and tell me what you think of it."

Jessica's eyes skimmed the screen. "Looks like police reports." She stated, trailing off as she continued to read. "Seems innocent at first, but they all relate to mutant activity somehow. How odd." She finished. She sniffed the air and turned to her counterpart. "Don't know about you Bobbi, but I smell a rat. And I think said rat will be dressed in a blue uniform, don't you?" She asked with a grin.

"Yeah," she said, not grinning herself at the confirmation of what she'd been fearing all along. Bobbi was glad that they found what they were looking for but part of her really hadn't wanted to find it, not there. Not like this. "I'm afraid that you're right."
