Letter to Kitty Pryde
I apologize for the fact that I must contact you via mail. It is hardly the personal encounter that I wished to have the conversation with you. Unfortunately, circumstances have moved beyond either of our control, so we are forced to resort to pen and paper. No doubt you have heard a dozen different versions of my termination, and no doubt a dozen more will surface before my presence is dead and buried in that school. I can only assume that dear Charles has brought you in for a meeting, you explain himself and his reasons behind what he has done.
Oh, I don't fault Charles, you know. To be honest, considering what he wishes to build, there is no way that my presence could have been tolerated for long. Neither do I fault his intentions, which are noble, Ms Pryde. Charles Xavier may be many things, but a demogage he is not. HIs main weakeness is his inability to look beyond his own intentions and into others; a curious and ironic limit in a telepath. He plays a dangerous game, that only requires a single person wrapped in blind fanaticism to bring down. I fear very much for him.
And you, Ms Pryde. If there is a regret in escaping the madhouse, it is the loss of you and the other students that I helped. While I can't imagine that the teacher of the year award will be coming any time soon, I do hope that I was able to give you all some direction in your future. I hope more so that I was able to give you an idea of what directions exist. Ms Pryde, I can understand the need to help, to assist, to heal. Too often in my life, my skills have focused on destruction before creation. There are other ways to help both your fellow mutant and man. Whatever choices you may make, make sure first that they are your choices, and none others. That is the final and most important lesson I can leave for anyone.
I doubt it will be easy for us to see each other in the near future, however, should anything ever happen, or your require assistance of any type, please contact me immediately. I can be surprisingly resourceful, Ms Pryde, and I can promise you that no matter what happens, I will also be there to help you. There is so much I'd like to be able to express, but the page draws to a close and the medium is far too limited to encompass it. Be careful, Ms Pryde, and be safe.
Nathanial Essex
P.S: I note that you still have your dinner available. May I suggest next Satrday as an optimum time? Armand Villineuve is visiting from Nice, and his culinary works are not to be missed. Take young Mister Madrox and have an enjoyable evening. Dinner might just... surprise you.
