Doug and Meggan (waaaaaaaaay backdated)
Okay, I completely forgot this one was still sitting in my mailbox and never posted. Backdated to April 30. Doug and Meggan watch Saturday morning cartoons right after Amanda and Marie-Ange move into their new suite. Meggan thinks Beast Boy is the best ever. Doug also teaches Meggan a silly trick to play on people.
Meggan crept out of Manda's bed, tucking the blankets in around her. Manda had had a busy day yesterday, bringing everything to their new room. Meggan wouldn't wake her.
She debated taking off the sleeping-thing and putting on one of her smocks, but sometimes she got stuck in there, and Manda wasn't awake to help her out again. So she just trotted out into the Middle Room, where there was a little frij-thing and some food that Manda had showed her and said was hers. She would have an apple.
Only there was someone out there already. Doug, the nice one who understood her no matter what words she used. "Hi!" she chirped, waving a paw at him. He was watching the big box. There were pretty coloured pictures on it, she realized with interest.
It being a Saturday morning, Doug was already on the couch in his pajamas, fuzzy slippers propped up on an end table while the Saturday Morning Cartoon Ritual was being observed. "Meg!" he managed around a large mouthful of cereal. He patted the couch beside him. "I have decided that it is time for you to learn about Saturday morning cartoons," he said with a grin after swallowing. Right about that time, Teen Titans (one of Doug's Saturday morning staples) started and Doug sang along with Hi Hi Puffy Amiyumi. "When there's trouble, you know who to call..."
Meggan went to fetch her apple, then climbed up onto the couch to sit on the indicated spot. "Cartoons?" she asked, frowning a little. She didn't remember hearing that word before. "Cartoons what?" She sniffed her apple, not biting into it yet. Apples smelled good, and she was still getting used to having nice food around. She liked to take her time with it, when she wasn't too hungry.
"Cartoons." Doug paused for a moment, trying to think. "It's like...moving pictures that tell a story. Sort of like what Angie does. This one is about a team of superheroes," he continued, pointing out each character as they appeared on screen. He grinned to himself as Beast Boy appeared, betting that Meggan would probably like him best.
Meggan squeaked happily and pointed, as Beast Boy turned himself into a sloth, then into a snake. "Green! Amimals!" she told Doug happily. The boy in the 'moving picture' was neat! He could be furry, like her, then not-furry!
Doug grinned happily. Sometimes he was brilliant. "So, how do you like the new room?" he asked during the commercial break. He knew that Amanda and Marie-Ange had both been very busy moving the previous day. He'd helped out a bit, but it sounded like both girls were pretty exhausted, besides the fact that neither one was really what you'd call a morning person.
"Good," Meggan said, after thinking the question over for a minute. "Big." And she had her own little bed for naps, although she was still firmly resisting sleeping in it at nighttime. She didn't like being so far away from Manda if she woke up in the dark.
"Yeah, these suites are a little bigger," Doug replied. He ate some cereal quietly for a moment, then grinned wickedly. It was time to teach Meggan another silly tradition, then unleash her on an unsuspecting mansion populace. He leaned over towards Meggan and said "I have something else to teach you." Then, leaning in slowly, so as not to startle her, he placed his eye very close to hers. "Giant eyeball!" he said cheerfully. Then, after a moment, he turned and licked Meggan's nose before leaning back to his spot giggling.
Meggan squeaked, and then giggled a lot. That was funny! "Good!" she said decidedly, then leaned over to demonstrate that she'd learned. "Giant eyeball," she repeated, and licked his nose in turn. Hee. She had to try this with Jake, he liked funny eyeball games.
Yes, Doug decided. He was definitely a genius. And he didn't even need a silly 'genius hat' to prove it. All he had to do was release a cute little girl on the mansion populace. He giggled back. Tossing a few Cheerios up, he caught them in his mouth, crunching away merrily. "Saturday morning cartoons is a lot of fun," he said in a conspiratorial whisper. "No matter how old you get, you're never too old for cartoons. And the giant eyeball."
"Giant eyeball. Ca-toons," Meggan repeated, eyeing the Cheerios hopefully. Sometimes Doug shared food with her, if she made her eyes all big and looked at him like Joyita looked at Meggan when she had meat-food.
It was true. Genius or not, Doug defied anyone to resist a face like that. He dutifully passed over the Cheerios with a mock grumble. He grinned quickly to show Meggan he didn't mean really mean it, though.
Meggan beamed, setting aside her apple for later and snuggling up to Doug's side to share the Cheerios. "Ca-toons good. Doug good," she said happily. Then she pointed to the screen, as the action resumed. "What?"
