Jennie and Monet - Wednesday night

Since Monet doesn't get any sympathy from Marius, she goes to Jennie. Jennie is surprisingly logical at her. We're not sure if Monet gets it.

Monet flopped onto a chair, leaning forward over the table. "Life is soooo unfair at the moment, Jennie. So totally unfair."

"How is life unfair?" Jennie said, without even looking up from the magazine she was flipping through. She kept going over her fight with Shiro, and the more she thought about it, the more she realized that perhaps she had not handled it quite well.

"Marius got all pissed off at me, like things are my fault, and not just his being an emo whiney pants pms-ey girl."

Jennie looked up, startled. "Marius got pissed off? Our Marius?" She could recall only one time she'd ever really seen Marius really angry. "I've only ever seen him truly mad once. Did his skin fall off again?"

"Nooo... not that I noticed, anyway. And I think I would have. We were just kinda talking about the other Marius, which is enough to get anyone cranky but he was pissy at me, not him."

"What did you say?" Jennie said, turning and leaning forward on her elbows. "No, wait, in fact, start me from the very beginning, what you said, what he said. I'm sorry, but he doesn't get pissed off randomly..." Unless you push a button. Hard.

"Well, he was all sympathetic and going on about how, really, you can understand how Marius did ... things and I didn't agree. He was all," Monet pitched her voice a few shades higher, "he had no options and oh, poor Marius with his crappy powers and I was all well, that doesn't excuse him eating people's brains all over the place, does it?"

"Okay, sorry, you skipped to the end," Jennie put her hands to her eyes and rubbed them. "What happened to Marius mark 1 to make mark 2 sympathetic?" Thought Jennie was already starting to put the pieces together. Cartier had one son whose mutation almost destroyed his life, probability stated that it would most likely befall another of his offspring.

"Sorry." Monet gave a slightly sheepish smile. "He was looking at some stuff Amanda got me, on Marius's past. You know, he was all fantastic, gets his powers, blah blah blah, loads of drugs, cos they're crap, turns into the disgusting guy with holes in his undies that we met. Marius got sympathetic about that stuff. Kind of said that he could understand how Marius could use the worms, since they'd eat him, if they didn't. So I said that he should have been more pickier about the whole eating people thing."

Jennie winced. "You didn't really say that did you? Way to like, totally kick him where it hurts." The younger girl sighed and rubbed her face. "Dude, take a step back for a second. I know you got fucked over, and it sucks hard, but you're going to get better, right? Okay. Now, look at the situation," Jennie began to tick off her fingers, "Elder Marius became like he is because his powers screwed him over and he made some really bad choices, right?" Jennie raised an eyebrow for confirmation. "Now turn and look at younger Marius. I think our Marius saw what could have happened to him had some things gone different. And it probably gave him a wiggins."

Monet blinked. "But he'd totally never end up all greasy and in those undies. Besides, he got better. End of story."

"Yeah," Jennie shrugged. "Because he got lucky. Because he had people to help him. But there's always that what if. Elder Marius wasn't so lucky. I mean, what if he'd gotten help before things started to suck? Then he probably would never have tried to hurt you. And then you turn around and wonder what would have happened if our Marius hadn't gotten help," Jennie looked down, going slightly pale. Oh, that was a scary thing to contemplate. Her brain shied away from the horrible gray area. "I mean, I was there when it was bad, remember?"

"Sooo.... you're saying I should go easier on him, because he's had a crappy go at things?"

"Well, duh," said Jennie. "I mean, you should try to look beyond the fact that you got fucked over. Okay? I got fucked over by a Marius too. Pretty hardcore, actually. But I looked beyond the fact that I was really fucking pissed off at him, and understood why that happened and how it got that bad and I wound up forgiving him. So I'm saying maybe you should try to look at what else is going on around you. You don't have to be best buddies with your brother. But instead of going around and being all 'Rar! He sucks! Me me me! End of story!' maybe you should say 'Man, that whole situation blew,' and try to make it so it doesn't happen again? I mean, what about your sisters?"

"What about them? They're fine. They haven't even manifested ye..." Monet paused. "Ah. Well, I think Dad will be sending them here the moment they do, just in case."

"Um, probability being what it is? I'm thinking when rather than if," Jennie made a face. She really wondered if anything she was saying was penetrating Monet's inate selfishness. Sometimes it was charming, other times it was annoying. It wasn't for nothing that an old nickname Marius had for her was 'the cow'. "So, to sum up, what did I just say?"

"Is this one of those 'repeat it back in case I wasn't listening moments?'. You want me to forgive Marius and fucked if I'm doing that. I'll have a chat to our Marius, but. I should try to fix things with him a bit." Monet tugged at a curl dangling in front of her face.

Jennie sighed. It was better than nothing. "Close enough. You don't have to forgive Marius the elder if you don't want. But you and the younger should probably talk," the girl nodded. And Jennie realized that she probably needed to do something random in order to cheer both herself and him up.

Monet nodded, out of sorts after the terrible lack of sympathy from Jennie. "Don't worry. Marius and I will talk."
