Julio and Angelo - Monday Afternoon
Julio's doing some work when Angelo comes to him with a job. Elpis is going to Guatemala and they need a guy who speaks the language. Julio is wary, but not without reason.
Pausing, Julio pinched the bridge of his nose under his glasses and the pushed them up to the top of his head. He'd been staring at a computer monitor for two hours and he was starting to confuse his grammar. Along with filing and standard paperwork and occasionally having to answer the phone, the bulk of Julio's work lately had been translating documents from Spanish to English. Being at it for too long, however, had the unfortunate side effect of the translated document slowly morphing into Spanglish and Julio needing to play minesweeper for a half hour to get his mind to working in a comprehensible language again.
Angelo was over in his own corner of the office, bent over the computer monitor with Nash at his side, giving the older man a run-down of one of their latest projects. Glancing up eventually, he seemed to remember something and took his leave, letting Nash look at things for himself while he wandered over to Julio's desk.
"Hey."
"Hmm?" Julio looked up at the other man, pushing his glasses back down.
"Question for you", he said cheerfully. "How'd you feel about a trip to Guatemala?"
Julio blinked. "Uh," he said intelligently. His initial knee-jerk reaction was to make a face. His father was always very derisive whenever he spoke of Guatemala. "I guess it would be all right. I've never been, but school doesn't start for another couple of weeks?" he turned his chair so he was facing Angelo. "Why would I be going to Guatemala?"
"Work trip", Angelo explained. "We've got a project goin' out there, that's why Nash's here. We're sendin' a group this week, an'... we're gonna need a translator. I can't go, Nate can't go, you're the only other one here with good Spanish."
"Work trip," Julio repeated. He'd heard about some of the work trips that Elpis went on, with the inevitable shenanigans. "Who is all going?" Nathan wasn't going, which was good in a way, since most of the shenanigans involved Nathan.
"Kevin, Monet, Jane an' John so far. Probably we'll keep it at that, plus you if you go an' Nash - don't wanna send too many people." He paused. "You don't have to decide right now, but think about it?"
"No, no it's good, I can go, no problem," Julio said quickly. "I mean, there shouldn't be any problem for me anyway." Not unless he was planning on eating another earthquake like the time he went to Tokyo. "It's just translator work, right?"
"Yep, should be a piece of cake." There was a beat, then he reached out to tap one of the desks quickly. "Touch wood."
Julio surreptitiously knocked on the side of his desk. "No offense to the big man, but maybe it's best he sits this one out."
"He is a trouble magnet", Angelo admitted freely. "An' hey, why should we get all the fun? Time for you to get your first time out."
