Fred and Catseye meet!

Fred meets a purple cat who is shedding and forgot her collar.

The collar was itchy. Catseye didn't like March, because it was the time of year where spring was coming and her catform was shedding a great amount of fur in preparation for the warmer weather. Thankfully the mutant didn't produce dander, which meant she didn't irritate anyone's allergies, but the shedding was irritating for the sheer volume of fur she produced, and the fact that she itched like crazy. The collar did not help.

Unable to find relief in begging to be brushed or petted, she had slipped the collar off using her tail, leaving it in her room, and had indulged in a monumental roll around the garage floor, rubbing all over against the concrete. The hard surface alleviated much of her distress, and a good long romp through the woods had helped dispell most of her remaining energy. Now, feeling much more relaxed, the purple cat bounded back into the mansion and into the rec room, knowing that there were always laps there to nap on. She was delighted to notice that the new boy was there. A new lap to test out! Without hesitation she leapt up onto the arm of the couch and meowed at Fred.

Fred, who had been watching the TV impassively, and actually jumped a little when the cat had hopped onto the couch. He furrowed his brow. He'd never seen this cat before. Was it a stray? Did it belong to another student? "Uh, hello...cat?" he said, and held his hand out to touch the cat's head.

Catseye leapt down into Fred's lap, though she couldn't really get at it over his rotund belly. Still, the belly was soft! She sat on it and kneaded her front paws into it, claws in, intending to curl up and nap on him, purring softly.

Okay, it had to be a students cat, or it was the most affectionate stray in the universe. Fred scratched the top of its head. He'd always had a soft spot for cats, and it wasn't the most unpleasant surprise he'd had since he got here. He grinned and scratched the oddly purple cat, "Hey there. You lost? You supposed to be here?" he said, in a sing-song voice that was odd, when it came from a guy Fred's size.

"Mrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrt!" the cat extolled indignantly, trying to convey the fact that she wasn't lost and was most definitely supposed to be here. Her purrs increased in volume as he skritched her the way only a person who appreciated cats could, and she circled around on his belly, arching her back under his hand and bumping his chin with the top of her head, rubbing her jowls against his cheek affectionately.

Fred laughed at the affectionate cat, and scratched behind its ears and on its back. His hand was covered in loose fur after he'd scratched its back, and shook the fur off his hand, "Shedding season, huh? No wonder you're so affectionate," Fred said as he smiled.

Catseye was in the middle of licking his cheek with her rough tongue when he mentioned her being affectionate. This made her stop, planting her front paws on his shoulders so she could look at his face. Giving him a glare, she gave him her most indignant "mrrrrrrrrrt!" to assure him that she was always this affectionate, shedding or not.

Fred cocked an eyebrow. For a cat, this animal seemed fairly sure of what Fred was talking about. He'd actually felt the cat being indignant and had to suppress the urge to apologize. While still still scratching its back, Fred spoke again, "You're an odd one, huh?"

Though she enjoyed the skritching, Catseye felt it necessary to correct the boy. She shifted there on his lap, only realizing that she had taken off her collar and was naked after she looked down at herself in girlform. Oops. "Catseye is not an 'odd one', Catseye is a mutant and a girl and also a cat. Catseye likes petting even when not shedding and Catseye is not lost and is supposed to be here!"

Fred, once he processed that the 'it' was a 'she' and that 'she' was naked, averted his eyes so fast he popped his own neck. He took a fast interest in the ceiling above the pair. He hadn't really heard Catseyes' rebuttals to his assumptions, because he was to busy looking anywhere but his lap, "Wow you are naked. Naked naked. Opposite of clothed. No clothing anywhere."

Catseye cocked her head in confusion. Why were boys so silly? How come they would make sense when talking to girls who wore clothing, and they would make sense when talking to cats who wore no clothing, but they didn't make sense when talking to a girl who wore no clothing? It didn't make sense. "Catseye can get a blanket from the cupboard if RoundBoy wants?" she suggested though she made no move.

Fred grabbed his raincoat from beside him, which he'd taken off when he'd came inside, and while his eyes were still averted, offered his coat to Catseye, "Uh, here. Take this."

She eyed the rain coat suspiciously. "It's wet," she announced, wrinkling her nose. "Catseye does not want." Lashing her tail, she slid off Fred's lap and retreved a throw from a cupboard, wrapping it around herself, then returned to Fred's lap, though she sat sideways this time instead of straddling him. "Can RoundBoy talk making sense now? Not SillyTalk? Catseye likes RoudBoy's round middle," she smiled, poking his belly with a fingertip.

Fred probably would have been offended at the nickname 'RoundBoy' or at being poked, if it hadn't been done by a girl with purple hair wearing nothing but a blanket. "I can certainly try to talk normal, but it'd be a lot easier if you weren't, you know, on my lap."

"RoundBoy's lap is warm," she justified, as if that were a perfectly valid reason for sitting on it. Which in her mind, it was. "And RoundBoy is good at petting! If RoundBoy is going to keep talking SillyTalk Catseye will shift into a cat again because Catseye does not want to talk SillyTalk Catseye only wants to make RoundBoy see that Catseye is not an odd one but a mutant and a cat and a girl so if RoundBoy is not going to say anything Catseye has to answer then Catseye will shift and then RoundBoy will pet some more?"

Fred looked at her abashedly, "Yea, I have a question: why aren't you wearing clothes?" the way the girl moved and talked was offsetting, but would probably be less so had the girl not made Fred almost die of embarrassment. He'd met some odd ones in his short time at the Institute, but this girl had beat the competition by miles.

Catseye looked at him as if he had a problem with his brain. "Because cats don't wear clothes? Cats are much smaller than humans and the clothes do not fit the same. So when Catseye shifts to human, the human is not wearing clothes either. Catseye has a special collar ShinyBitsBoy made for her that Catseye wears when she is a cat," she explained, shifting a little to make herself more comfortable in Fred's lap, "and the collar makes Catseye have a shirt and shorts on when Catseye becomes a girl, but Catseye took it off because it was itchy, and Catseye forgot she took it off when she shifted into girlform."

'ShinyBitsBoy'? Magical changing clothing? Sometimes, Fred really hated this place. He lifted Catseye effortlessly, and sure to be careful, set her down on the couch, "Ah, yeah. Collar that turns into clothes got itchy. Oldest story in the book," he said, and moved so he was sitting further away from Catseye.

She cocked her head. He sounded as if he was playing, but she couldn't be sure. "Catseye does not think it is an old story because ShinyBitsBoy only made the collar four years ago and lots of stories are older than four years!"

Despite Fred's discomfort, he actually laughed, "Yeah, heh. Good point. Apologies." he said and scratched the back of his head, and still tried to avoid looking directly at the pseudo-naked girl.

"Is there anything else RoundBoy wants to ask Catseye or can Catseye shift back into catform and have more skritching and a nap in RoundBoy's lap?" she questioned, stretching languidly underneath the blanket she had around her shoulders. Actually, the fact that girlform didn't shed was quite nice at the moment. If Fred said no to the skritching and napping, she might just stay in girlform for a while.

"Uh, nothing else is coming to mind," To be honest, Fred was pretty sure he would be more comfortable with Catseye in her feline form. At least, given her current lack of clothing.

Catseye threw the blanket she'd been wearing over Fred's torso and legs and then shifted back into catform, pouncing on his belly excitedly, returning to her former place and purring as she kneaded her claws into the blanket.

Fred watched the girl-now-cat, and shook his head a little. This school didn't seem to want to be figured out. Fred resumed scratching the purple cats back, flicking away any hair he loosed.

Purring increasing in volume, Catseye nuzzled up against Fred's neck again, arching her back into the skritching and deciding that she would definitely have to pay him a nighttime visit for a proper nap and extended skritching. It was sometimes hard to find good skritchers and nappers in the mansion and when she found them Catseye did not let go easily.
