Log: Julio and Sarah

Sarah happens upon Julio on her exploration of the mansion.

A soft series of ones and zeros was hissed under the young technopath's breath. She'd been doing so well, too! More curses in binary form slipped past her lips as Sarah dug into her pocket, looking for her phone and the little map Forge had installed on it. Of course, whether or not it would be helpful depended on if she could figure out where in the mansion she'd wandered her way to.

Unfortunately for Sarah, a pair of legs were directly in her path. The young mutant hiding in the stairwell swore as the newcomer startled him.

Julio was going to have to seriously find a new stairwell at this rate.

"Dude!" the younger mutant exclaimed as she back-peddled. "Way to be super creepy with your lurking." One hand pressed to her heart, hoping to slow the pounding there. Some of the people here? Way weird.

"Lurking? lurking?" the young man replied indignantly. "I never lurk. Ever. That is beneath me. No, what I am doing, is hiding, thank you very much," Julio sniffed and retrieved his abused paperback from the bottom of the stairwell, trying to smooth yet another crease from it's many dog-eared pages. He looked at Sarah, and then raised an eyebrow. "You're new," he said.

"Hiding?" she asked, both eyebrows lifting. "From what? There's like, no one here. And yeah, I am new. Sarah Vale," the technopath said with a little nod and slipped her phone back into her pocket. "I just got here and am, um, kind of lost, I guess."

"You are new," Julio said with a nod. "You will come to understand in time why it is important to find a good hiding place. Some like the couch on the flyers platform, others have made use of the treehouse out in the woods. All are open. Though not this stairwell. This one is mine," He shoved the paperback in the back pocket of his shorts. "Not to worry if you are lost. I can guide you back to civilization. My name is Julio, by the way. Julio Richter. And yes, the rumors about me are true. Including the ones that mention how handsome and manly I am," the older boy grinned. Then he looked thoughtful. "Except if they were told to you by four identical blonde sisters. If you see them? Run."

Flyers platform? Treehouse? Clearly there was much more to the this place she still had to explore. Wonderful. "Sarah Vale," she said by way of proper introduction. "Nice to meet you, Julio. Can't say I've been here long enough to hear any rumors about how handsome and manly you are but if I do, I'll be sure to encourage them to be repeated often and elsewhere for other new students?" came the offer with a little bit of a brighter smile. "I haven't seen any quadruplet blondes though in my wanderings, so I think we're safe for now."

"Excellent, I like you already," Julio said, ever the incorrigible flirt. He gestured that Sarah follow him with a jerk of his head and lead her down the hallway. "I take it you got the official tour, yes? Who gave it to you? If it was Gibney, I would not be surprised if you got lost," Julio's normally thick accent switched to an approximation of Kyle's accent. "So, like, this is the upstairs, because, like, it's above the downstairs, dude," Julio said, imitating Kyle's body language as well.

Sarah's face screwed slightly in confusion then amusement as she watched the older student, following close on his heels. "No, I don't think I've met any Gibney yet. Forge gave me the tour but only kind of; I'd been exploring on my own and then he put a map thingy in my phone but I'm not too good with it." Some technopath she was. "But it's cool. I like figuring things out for myself. Problem solving and all that kind of stuff. I would have found my way back to my room." Eventually.

"Ah, that explains everything," Julio said amiably, leading her down another hallway. "Forge is... he means well. But he is not very good at people, sometimes. He thinks differently, because of his mutation, and sometimes he doesn't understand why the rest of us don't operate on his wavelength. You know, he's a million miles a minute while the rest of us can only manage a few feet a time," Julio smiled and shook his head. "Don't worry about getting lost, it was weeks before I figured my way out around here on my own." Or at least that Julio could remember. His early months at the mansion were foggy in his memory, evidence of the time he spent lost in a cloud of anger and self-pity. Sometimes he was amazed he didn't completely flunk his first semester. He stopped as they entered one of the main hallways and looked back at Sarah. "In fact, would you like a real tour? Whole deal, where everyone hangs out, secret places?"

"Is he really that bad with people? I mean, he's supposed to be helping me with my powers and all, that's the only reason I'm asking. I'm a technopath so..." Her voice trailed off and she chewed on her bottom lip for a moment as she trotted along after Julio. "I don't mind the getting lost. Yeah, it's a little frustrating but you don't learn new things by only doing the old things over and over so if you always turn left, why not turn right and see where you end up?" The little brunette came up short behind him, nearly bouncing off his back when he stopped. "Um, if you want to. I don't want to be a bother or anything and I can keep exploring on my own if you'd rather read."

Julio smiled. "Forge is... he's Forge, you know? He's a good guy," he nodded to Sarah. "I would not worry. And as for me, I really was not doing anything important, I have read this thing many times." He held up his well-worn copy of Cat's Cradle with a wry smile before shoving it back in his pocket. "You do not have to worry about being a bother here, everyone has been where you are, so we are all in the same boat, yes? Now," he clapped his hands together. "Any place you would like to see first?"
