Nico & Julian - Medlab

Nico visits Julian, and a discovery is made.

Dreams had been intermittent with long periods of nothingness, peaceful intervals in which there were no images of the war zone he'd just been in. Images of Angel getting cut to ribbons by the helicopter's heavy guns, or Nico getting shot by the green uniformed and faceless forms of infantry were nightmares he was unable to wake up from. It was strange to have consciousness in those moments of blackness and hearing the things that people around him had said, though he'd not been able to respond to them.

Now though, his eyes fluttered open and the brightness of the room's florescent lights was blinding enough to plunge him back into darkness for a moment as his eyes clamped shut. "Damn," he croaked, his throat bone dry. Slowly his eyes adjusted and he could make out someone sitting in a chair next to his bed. He tried to call out but nothing audible came from his mouth. Weakly he lifted his arm and a feint line of green energy pushed outward toward the...girl?...but who was it?

Nico had been sitting there since forever after she came to know her boyfriend was hurt, and unconscious on the medlab. Yes, she had been sitting there since the moment Hank allowed her to, and she only left when the blue doctor technically dragged her away. Why did he keep getting hurt? It wasn't fair, not at all. She was starting to wish he hadn't gone, or that he had stayed with her, or the other way around. What hurt her the most though, was the fact she hadn't used her only healing spell on him, the knowledge that one was reserved for her own well-being keeping her from going totally emotional.

When Julian opened his eyes, Nico had been sleeping lightly for some minutes, exhaustion taking its tall. The TK felt like a poke on her forehead, waking her up confused and almost throwing her off the chair. "Julian!?" Nico closed the distance between her and the bed, slowly holding one of the boy's hands as she tried to stay as close as possible. "Julian..."

She smelled good, familiar and soothing...it was definitely Nico. He tried to speak again but couldn't. Finally he managed to croak out, "Water." She seemed alright, or was at least better off than he was. The last real thing he remembered were the helicopters and Angel getting shot at. The bullets he'd felt through his tactile link to his powers, though they were just dull thuds, every shot felt like it had left a bruise on his brain. He'd been deflecting gunfire since he was sixteen, but never on this scale. "Water," he managed to get out again.

Nico was going to panic if Julian asked for water again. But before, she realised there was a glass with water in the night table next to him, and a jar, both of she had personally filled earlier. "Alright, slowly now", said as she held the glass and helped him to drink from it. "How are you? I still have no idea of what happened to you." She hadn't asked, and she was regretting now for that.

The cool cascade of the water felt so good that it had to be bad for him. "Oh lord," he sighed. The bright lights were still hurting his eyes, causing strange green lines to appear on the various surfaces around him. "Helicopters," he said plainly, coughing slightly. "They came at us and I was shielding Angel, moving the guns away from her and tossing Husk around like a pinball. I guess it was too much because I blacked out."

So he had been playing hero, awesome. "But you are alright?" She slowly placed her hand over his chest, feeling his heartbeat. "I don't know what exerting your telekinesis does to you, but I hope it doesn't manifest physically." Or mentally, or anything. He was tired, she could see that, but she wanted to be sure there was nothing else going on with him. "How do you manage to get hurt every time?"

"I'm fine, I think..." he shifted slightly, trying to sit up, but his muscles were weak. "Oh man, I hurt everywhere and it feels like a marching band just paraded over my brain. But that's probably not because of the black out...stupid helicopters and their stupid guns." He'd managed to survive at least, then a thought struck him, "Wait, is Husk alright?!" He began coughing from the raised tone and was forced to drink again with Nico's help. "I mean, is Paige alright? What about Angel and Kurt?"

Nico had to keep Julian from moving any more. "Yes, they are all fine Julian; Angel got shot, I think, but her mutation took care of protecting her; it melt the bullet or something. It hit her anyway, but it wasn't as serious as it would have been a shot without her powers." Helicopters and guns. Great. "I guess that's what you feel when you use too much teekay then? You shouldn't move around until your strength is back at 100%." And she was going to make sure he didn't.

"Thank goodness," he said, relieved. He could actually feel the softness of her skin and the warmth of her breath and even though she was close it was still a little strange. Something was different and suddenly it hit him. The green lines hadn't abated, and they looked shockingly like the red and orange lines that Nathan had shown him when he'd been training with his abilities early on. "Lines of force..." he mumbled, blinking a couple times to be sure he wasn't imagining it.

"Eh...what?" He had said something about lines. "You sure everything is alright with your eyes?"

"Do they look okay?" he asked, looking into her eyes.

Nico cocked her head to a side. "Is slightly green a good color? Because there is a faint shade of green on them." Just what the hell..."Just what the hell is happening?"

"I can see lines of force," he grinned, though she probably didn't know what that meant seeing as he'd never mentioned it before. "Nathan always had to share his with me, but I can see them now! It's sort of a big deal because I can probably actually use my powers right now."

"Hm, honey? Mind giving me the long explanation? And you shouldn't use anything just yet." But Nico could tell, something had happened with Julian's mutation; it had grew, as mutations seemed to mature and become greater with time.

"Um," he coughed and took another drink. "Well, it's sort of like the little lines that make up the universe and interconnect anything, which allows teeks to use their abilities."

Nico was getting more confused by the minute. "...Alright, but you had been using your TK pefectly without seeing this lines at all right? What changed now?"

"My powers have been far from perfect. I'm barely able to levitate a dozen eggs without them exploding...now, I bet I can do it...think you can sneak me in some eggs?" he grinned, the memories of the war temporarily forgotten in the exuberance of the moment.

Nico wanted to say that he needed to rest and get better without trying to do anything, but suddenly Julian looked so happy she couldn't help nodding. "Alright, but if anything funny happens I'm taking those eggs away and making you sleep." Standing up, she gave another worried look at him. "So, eh...be right back? If I don't come back, it means I was caught. Which in turns means I'll be back alter. Without eggs."
