Log: Amara and Sam, at the end of summer BBQ (backdated)

Sam bumps into Amara and they catch up a little.

Sam put his hands in his pockets, enjoying the lovely weather and the company of friends and familiar faces all around him. He'd really missed this place, more than he thought he had while he was away. Coming back and seeing his old haunts and the people with whom he'd haunt those places, well, it was nice. A homecoming, of sorts, leaving part of his real family to rejoin another family.

He decided it was time to hunt out another hot dog for himself, so he turned to forage for just that, stopping short when he almost banged into someone else. "Oh, 'scuse me, didn't mean to almost hit you there." It was Amara, and he smiled down at her, stepping back so he wasn't completely in her personal space. "Howdy, how goes it?"

"Hi Sam," Amara said with a bright smile, moving just enough so that she could look up at him properly without completely craning her neck. What was it with all of these tall people? She hadn't seen Sam in such a long time, it was good to see him back.

"I've been keeping pretty busy, actually. It's been pretty crazy. It's so good to see you back."

"Thanks, glad to be back." He rubbed the back of his neck, grinning back at Amara. "Hoping to help out if I can, more hands make light work and all that stuff, you know." Depending on what it was that was keeping her busy, of course. "Nice day we got for the barbecue, isn't it?" He welcomed the sunshine and warm weather, it was a pleasant change from the weather he'd endured on Muir Island for the better part of a year.

"It is great," Amara said enthusiastically. "I really don't spend enough time outside these days. I spent most of my summer break in the Elpis offices. Days like this make me think I should have worked a little less."

"Well that's a shame." Sam shook his head a little before catching himself. "I mean, don't get me wrong, work is important too, but you've gotta enjoy the sun while you can. Lord knows I've missed it." He put his hand over his eyes and squinted up into the bright sky, grinning. "And hey, you're not in the office today, so that's a start, right?"

"Yes, true," Amara grinned. "And classes have started again, so I've had that and HeliX work to do as well. But there is never nearly enough time to just chill out and relax." There was a pause from her. "Not that I can really chill out, but you know what I mean."

"Wow, that's quite a busy schedule indeed. It's important to find time to relax though, even if it is tough sometimes." Sam chuckled and shrugged. "Well, yeah, it's hard to chill out when you're hot all the time, I reckon."

"That is what people tell me. I do try and make time, but it just gets more and more difficult as I go along." She shrugged a little sheepishly. "At least it means I don't notice the heat as much? Callie says the apartment gets very stuffy when it's hot."

"You'll find your balance eventually, I'm sure, just takes awhile sometimes, is all." After some time off from the place, Sam knew it'd take awhile for him to get used to a new schedule too, but he was looking forward to the challenge. "If you're used to it you don't, yeah, I know I missed it while I was away. It can be stuffy for those who like it cooler, like Callie." That was what AC was for, so hopefully she had something like that.

"Speaking of cool, you want something cold to drink? Was just on the hunt myself, actually."

"Sounds like a good plan to me," Amara replied with a smile, tilting her head up to look at Sam. "After you."
