LOG: Warren, Adrienne, Callisto, Jennifer, Townshend and Mr & Mrs Horgan
Backdated. X-Factor Investigations plays host to a meeting between the newly found Townshend, his family and a lawyer.
The introductions had been done - Kate and Neil Horgan had been introduced to Adrienne and Jennifer, and had done their best to hide their shock at the emerald-skinned lawyer. Now everyone was sitting around a table waiting for Townshend and Callisto, mugs of hot beverages sitting in front of everyone and tasty baked goods on the table. Neil was doing his best not to keep glancing at the door, impatient to see for himself that his son was okay. Warren was quietly talking to Jennifer and Adrienne, telling an amusing story from his and Jennifer's time at law school in California.
Just then, a knock was heard at the door and then, when Warren moved to answer it, Townshend Horgan was ushered into the room ahead of a skinny young woman with a mop of dark hair that the parents understood must be Callisto. The boy looked tired, drawn, and rather contrite.
"Townshend!" His parents both rose out of their chairs, but it was Neil who crossed over to him, wrapping his arms around his son and hugging him tight.
"We're so glad you're okay," his mother said from her place, hovering, unsure what to do at this point. Or say.
Townshend returned the hug awkwardly. "Yeah, well," he said, clearing his throat and trying to hide the sudden burst of emotion. "Sorry. For everything." He glanced over at Warren, Adrienne and Jennifer. "Who're you?"
Neil didn't quite let Townshend go, leaving an arm around his son's shoulders. Warren rose from his seat, smiling to Townshend.
"I'm Warren, and this is Adrienne," he said, indicating to the brunette. "We're from X-Factor Investigations, the private detective agency your parents hired to find you. And this is Jennifer Walters, she's an attorney from Legal Aid."
"You have a very nice house?" Adrienne mumbled by way of greeting, ending up making it sound more like a question or suggestion. She really wasn't comfortable with this sort of thing- having to talk to parents of her students was awkward enough, but this kid wasn't even one of her students!
"I've been assigned to Townshend's case", Jennifer explained to the Horgans. "So later, I'd like to speak to you both about the defense I'm building for him."
"So, you'll get me off these charges?" Townshend asked Jennifer. "And I can go home?"
"What happened?" Kate asked with alarm, looking over to Warren for answers.
"Townshend is wanted in regards to a robbery of a liquor store," Warren replied. "Which is why I invited Jennifer along. We can't get you off the charges, Townshend, but what we can do is work with you and your parents to ensure that you don't go to prison. You understand that these are pretty serious charges, don't you?"
Townshend rolled his eyes slightly. "It's not like anyone got hurt," he began, but a warning squeeze of his shoulder from his father made him rethink his attitude. "Yeah, I know. I was just trying to get some money and things got out of hand, that's all."
The kid safely delivered into the arms of his worried parents, Callisto stood back, now, out of the way, sticking her hands in her pockets and melting toward the outskirts of the gathering. Her job was done here.
"Actually, I've been thinking about that, Townshend", Jennifer said calmly. "I think I have a strategy that will let us avoid prison. It's not likely I can get a not guilty verdict, with the evidence, so the best bet is a plea deal involving probation and family counselling."
"That sounds good to me," Neil replied, on behalf of all the family, after a slight nod from Kate. "We're happy to do whatever we need to." He squeezed Townshend's shoulder again. "You'll co-operate with Ms Walters and the police, won't you son?" Neil's tone was anxious, rather than threatening - he just wanted his son to come home to them, whatever it took. And he didn't want his son going to jail either.
Townshend caught Callisto's eye before nodding. He didn't care about the rest of these do-gooders, but the thin woman had definitely won his attention at the very least. "Sure, Dad, I'll do whatever the green lady wants me to do. Whatever it takes."
