LOG: Amara and Layla
An unaffected Amara and Layla realise that something is not quite right.
Amara wasn't much of a stranger to people being weird. She found the behavior of most Americans quite strange, even though she'd been at college for three and a half years now. It was still baffling, some of the things people did. Especially when they were drunk.
But people here mostly weren't drunk, so she was confused. She tilted her head, a frown on her face as she watched Jean-Phillipe. She'd gotten to known him a little thanks to them crossing paths at HeliX, but she was sure she'd never seen him act like that before.
Her gaze shifted to Tabitha, whom she was sure she'd never seen act like that before.
What was going on? The frown on her face deepened, the blonde crossing her arms as she watched the party goers. What on earth was going on?
Layla had just been about to go on the hayride when she had bailed. She couldn't quite pinpoint it but she got the distinct feeling that was a really bad idea. Who knows what could happen on a tractor with a bunch of hay and mutants and that guy who Artie said startled easily and carried knives? Instead she had made her way back through the thick of things and had realized some people were kind of a little too into the spirit of things. Like that Angelo dude who seemed like he might be trying to cast a legit magic spell on someone. The girl's retreat from the crazy had her bodily collide with someone and Layla, as usual, nearly wound up on her ass as a result. A last second regaining of balance was all that kept her off the ground. "Oh, hey, sorry. I wasn't really looking where I was going...mostly watching my history teacher break out her old west method acting."
"So you've noticed it as well," Amara said with relief, once she'd recovered from Layla bumping into her. She watched Wade try to lasso someone before looking over at Layla properly.
"I don't believe we've been introduced. I'm Amara, former student at Xavier's." She extended a hand out to Layla.
Layla eyed some of the people around them, then shook the other girl's hand. "Hey, Layla, current student at Xavier's and...what the hell?" Her head tilted sideways and she leaned to see around Amara. Was that the mountie? Flipping bottles of alcohol around and looking totally skeezy? "So, um, did I miss a memo? Is everyone just, like, really into Halloween around here or something?"
"No," Amara replied with something of a resigned sigh. "No, something strange is happening. Or at least, stranger than usual. And I'm not entirely sure what." She looked around some more - not at the people, but their surroundings. Was there a telepath lurking, messing with everyone's minds? But that wouldn't explain why she and Layla weren't affected.
"It could be magic," she said eventually. "I'm going to give Amanda a call, see if she can help out." She leaned over and dug her Xavier's phone out of the boots she was wearing - it had been the only place she'd found she could stash the phone. She dialed Amanda's number, hoping the witch would pick up.
"Magic? Like magic magic?" Layla's brow furrowed and she looked around at everyone anew. "Like 'I put a spell on you, now you're mine'?" It was so weird to be the lesser weird thing around. Seriously, she gave life to dead things but at least she didn't make people think they were legit cowboys or... "Oh fuck." Layla cringed. "Sarah is badass little red Indiana Jones hood. She has a whip. Uh...you think anyone will blame me if she ends up whipping someone?"
"Yes, that sort of magic," Amara said as she listened to the phone ring. "And no, I don't think you could be blamed for that." She smiled over to the younger girl.
"But it might be worth seeing if you could get it off her. Just in case." Amara glanced over to Wade, rapidly realizing that she should maybe make sure he didn't have any real guns on him. Amanda's voicemail finally came up, and Amara just hung up. If she wasn't answering, it was probably because she was busy with work.
"I'm going to try the mansion, Amanda's not answering her phone. Just... be careful around everyone." She didn't know the cause of this, or how it was triggered. She didn't want Layla stumbling into it as well. She hit another button on the phone, the one that would connect her to the person on comms duty. This counted as an emergency, of sorts.
Layla flushed at the thought of getting anything off of Sarah. Her brain had jumped over the whip and had gone straight to more...extensive versions. "Uh...I can try? But I might end up hiding in a hay pile if she decides I'm the enemy. You know, I like my back pretty welt-free." Though she wondered how useful it could be to wind up welted. After all, Sarah would feel bad when she was sane again. Assuming she got sane again. Still, that could be extorted. For what thought? And did she really want to extort things from Sarah? Well, not really.
"I think you'll be fine. She's dressed as Red Riding Hood, yes? And you don't look very wolf like." Amara grinned, before someone on the other end picked up.
"Sam? It's Amara. I'm at the Halloween party at Stonewall, and something strange seems to be happening..."
