Log: Dori & Kurt

Worried about her old gymnastics teacher, Dori brings by some treats in the morning for Kurt.

Things had been really messed up the last few days. Dori had been hanging back, being quiet about it. If only because she didn't know what to say. What could you say when someone decided to kidnap your friends for no real reason? She felt bad for everyone, but more so for Mr. Sefton who had seemed upset. And understandably so, he said he was missing sisters, as in more than one.

Dori wasn't the best baker in the world, so she had put together a basket of stuff from one of the local bakeries. She knocked on the door.

"Mr. Sefton, are you there? I brought some stuff," Dori called out.

There was a brief pause that somehow managed to convey confusion, and then the door opened. "Hello, Dori. Stuff?"

"Stuff," Dori said, holding out the basket, "There's brownies and doughnuts and cookies and I think they put some of those things that have the cream in them in here too," she said, looking down at it and sniffing. It had been very hard not to start eating things on the way over.

He eyed her, trying not to look amused at the sniffing. "It sounds as though there is too much for me to eat. Would you like to come in and share it?"

"Sure," Dori said with a smile. It wasn't like she could share the left overs with Kyle. At least not without making her boyfriend sick and that was never fun. "I didn't grab drinks though," she realized.

"That I can provide. Water, tea, coffee, I think I have some chilled soda..." He stood aside from the door to let her in.

Dori stepped in, careful as always to keep her claws from scrapping the floor as she walked in with the basket, "Soda would be great," though no one seemed to be really happy when she got too much caffeine. (Like there was any such thing!)

"I will see what is in the fridge." Close up, his tiredness was obvious in the shadows under his eyes before he turned away to the kitchenette for their drinks.

Dori gave him a concerned look before turning to shut the door. But not before Monkey Joe ran in and started running around her feet, clicking and squeaking loudly. [I TOLD you to stay in the room], she clicked down at him.

[You went without me! You went without me! Where are the rice-treats?!]

Doreen sighed and kept walking in, "So, how're you feeling?"

"...frustrated", was the unusually honest answer. "I will be better when there is something to be done."

She fished out a rice crispy and handed it down to her squirrel who was going to need to go on another diet soon. He was getting large again, but getting him to actually diet was a pain in the butt. As he started on that, she picked him up and put him on her shoulder.

"We'll be able to figure something out soon, you'll see," Dori offered, putting the basket on the table.

"We have a lot of talented people working on it", he agreed, drifting back towards her with a can in each hand. "But this is more than anything we have ever faced before."

[Hey hey, tell him we can help look. He smells bad but he shouldn't be upset] Monkey Joe clicked through a full mouth. Dori shook her head. Despite quite a bit of explaining, Monkey Joe still didn't quite understand the concept of "overseas."

She took one of the cans of soda and opened it with her claw, just enjoying the way it smelled, "We'll still do it. Trust me, you'll see."

He smiled faintly. "I certainly do hope so. Perhaps I should just consider that there is too much at stake here for a failure."

"Monkey Joe says he'll help, but I don't think he understands the concept of 'overseas'," Doreen said, unloading the basket of bakery goods, and putting the squirrel back on her shoulder when he tried to make a dive - mouth full - for a cookie.

"I do not imagine it would be a concept a squirrel would have much use for", Kurt agreed with a nod. "Also I think you should leave him at home for this one."

Dori looked over at Mr. Stefon and then at Monkey Joe, "I know he's gained a bit of weight, but he'll be able to help us out still."

"No, Dori", he said quietly. "I know he is more than a pet, but the people we will be facing are an army, trained and equipped as such. Do you think they would give a second thought to killing Monkey Joe if he attacked them?"

Dori's shoulders drooped a bit, "No, I suppose not," and as much as she loved her friend, he was getting on in years, "This isn't going to be fun to try to explain to him though," she said simply, and the squirrel was already chirping angrily.

"Tell him you need him to guard the mansion for you", Kurt suggested.

"I'll think of something," Dori promised, as MJ kept going on his tirade. "So, what ones should we eat first?"

"Which are your favourites?" he asked, leaning over to peer into the basket.

"...I don't know," Dori said after a moment, "I think they're all pretty awesome. Monkey Joe prefers the rice crispies."

"Monkey Joe should not be eating things like that", he said with a mock-stern look at the squirrel. "How about you pick at random, then?"

Dori picked up one of the brownies and handed it to Mr. Sefton, "Why don't you have this to start," she said brightly

"All right." He took a bite, then nodded at her in clear approval.

"Good, aren't they? I love this bakery. I can't share a lot of the stuff I get there with Kyle because it would make him sick, but I thought it'd be a nice thing to do," Dori said simply.

"It was a very nice thought", he agreed. "And Kyle has his own preferred bakery, I believe, for if you ever want to do it for him."

"He can eat a few things, but more than a little bit can make him sick," and a sick boyfriend was no fun, Dori mused, "Besides, I thought you could use the pick-me-up, you know?"

"I will not lie", he said a little wanly, "I probably could. The brownie was delicious."

"I'll totally keep you company, if you like. You really need to take care of yourself, after all. Especially when we go to get your sisters back," Dori pointed out.

"If you would not mind, company is usually healthier than the alternative. I probably ought to attempt some sleep before we go, too."

"I'll stay then. And if there's anything I can do to help you out, Mr. Sefton, please let me know," Dori said firmly, "I can call in to work and everything too. My boss will understand."

"You may well have to", he told her. "We could be called to move at any time, and... well, better to set things straight before we go."

"I'll do that," Dori said, she had her cellphone with her. And she was sure her boss would understand. It wouldn't be the first time she had to call in because of these type of things, "And I'll hang out as long as you like, Mr. Sefton."
