Cammie & Kurt: Reunion
After the train crash, Kurt reunites with his adopted sister.
When the dust had cleared and all the talking was done, Kurt had sought out a certain green-haired girl. He walked up to her without a word and caught her in a tight hug.
Cammie stiffened at first until she realized just who was holding on to her. She wasn't a huggy person by nature, her mutation didn't really allow for it, but she was hugging him back.
"Jesus Christ," she swore, "You guys came."
"Did you really think we would not?" he asked into her shoulder. "Not for a moment did we consider it."
"That first night... was a really fucking long one," Cammie said to his shoulder. No, she wasn't crying! "This place is hell."
"It is", Kurt agreed. "And Thomas Moreau is a monster. But now we are free and with our powers returned, we will make him pay."
Great, she was getting his fur all wet. At least as far as toxin content went, her tears were pretty light on it, so she didn't have to worry about making him sick accidentally. She nodded once. She was in the mind to pay back everything a hundred fold, "This place needs to burn to the ground, Kurt."
"I swore before I came", he said quietly, "that if - anyone was harmed, I would tear down the whole island, and I mean to. At least, the parts of it that matter. I will make a grave of them for the dead."
"Good," Cammie said simply, "Fuck, I've never been more happy to see you, Kurt. I knew I shouldn't have gone to that stupid thing. I knew it," but she had been spoiling for a fight that day.
Kurt laughed humourlessly. "But not for this reason, I imagine. It is so very good to see you alive and in one piece, too."
"I only went to that stupid protest thinking 'someone's going to start some shit' and that it'd be a good fight and I could at least draw it away from the kids," she admitted, "I hate being right."
"Even so. That kind of trouble could have been predicted, but not this. Or at least, I never imagined it."
"Yeah," she said, pulling away a bit just to wipe her eyes, "I just thought there'd be a fist fight. I can handle fist fights."
"And very well, at that." He smiled slightly. "But we are out, and we will bring everyone else home."
"Promise?" for someone so tough, at that moment Cammie still felt so vulnerable.
"On my life." He stepped back slightly, then bent to kiss her forehead. "No one left behind."
