Genosha - Step by Step: Faking Sick at the GBC
Callisto and Jean use Maddie to get into the Genoshan Broadcasting Corporation building so they can turn off the security cameras.
The two security guards in the lobby of the Genoshan Broadcasting Corporation frowned at one another as the two women and teenage girl burst through the doors in a whirlwind of noise and activity. The one was carrying the girl, who appeared to be unconscious, the older women begging for medical attention for their daughter. It was difficult to cut through the panicked responses of the women at first, but the guards managed to take firm control of the situation, one calling an ambulance while the other offered to escort them to their medical room which would get them out of the way of curious employees crossing the lobby and passers-by who were beginning to peer through the glass fronted building from the street. Once the guard had led them to the room she returned to her post, leaving them with the building's nurse.
Immediately, Callisto turned toward him and... well, it wasn't that she moved fast, exactly. It was that she moved with such confidence, without hesitation, that he just couldn't even think about brooking any resistance.
In any event, one moment, the nurse was standing there, and the next he was turned around against Callisto, cradled in a vice like grip as one might a struggling sparrow, one hand clamped over his mouth and the other around his middle, pinning his arms to his sides.
"I don't really wanna knock him out," she said. "There a cupboard or something where we can tie him up and leave him?"
Jean's eyes locked with the nurse. "There's no time. The ambulance will be here any minute. I'm sorry," she said to Callisto, though the last part was for the nurse himself. After a couple of moments the nurse's struggling ceased and his eyes clouded over before fluttering closed. He went limp in Callisto's arms, his breathing measured and steady.
"He'll be fine. Just a long nap," Jean said. She glanced around the room, then nodded to a bathroom.
"Maddie can you help Callisto with his legs? We need to get to the security room. I remember seeing a map a little ways down the hall. I'm hoping it'll be close to the guard's station but I'd like to make sure."
"Ooh can I hog tie him," Maddie jumped up from the cot where she had been placed to wait for the ambulance. She looked down at the unconscious man, studying him for a minute before looking back up at Jean. "I've seen it done tons of times at the rodeo, and you have been holding out on the powers training, Doc Jean, we need to work on stuff like that after we get home."
Jean smirked faintly. "Maybe next time. For now let's just lock the door, okay? We're on a time crunch," she said.
The young girl grumbled. "No one ever lets me have any fun." But she set to work anyways, stripping the cot of all its linen. "'No Maddie, don't flip off the security cameras'," she muttered to herself as worked at pushing all the heavy furniture to barricade the bathroom door. "'Don't hog tie the nurse.' 'No, you can't steal that bad guy's chocolate bar and eat it in front of him.'" She sighed, tugging on the sheets she had turned into makeshift rope, tying items together and threading it through the door handle to keep the door from being opened.
"Ta-da," she deadpanned. "We done here?"
Jean walked to the door, peering out. She didn't sense anyone coming, yet, but she didn't want to stick around and find out. "Alright, let's move," she said. She opened the door, then slipped out into the hall, waiting for the other two to follow.
The map wasn't that far down the hall, barely a few yards. "Okay, it's four doors down from the guard station to the right by the stairwell. We should be able to get by unnoticed by the guards. I can help in that regard but the cameras can still pick us up so we need to move quickly." Hence why they wanted to take them out.
"Ready? On my count 1, 2..."
Keeping together, they crept their way along the corridors, guided by Jean, then broke into a headlong run, Callisto bringing up the rear as they made it to the security room door.
Opting for speed over sneakiness at that point Callisto then simply ripped the keypad off the door and kicked it open, crossing the few feet between her and the guard in seconds to smoothly restrain her.
This time, she didn't hesitate or ask questions, simply guiding the guard almost gently around until her head was against the wall, then knocking it with a sort of caring precision against said wall, causing the uniformed woman to slump down onto the ground as Callisto released her.
"Hate doing that," she muttered, wiping the hand that had been over the woman's mouth on her pants. "Someone told me once it's not like the movies where they'll totally be fine. You c'n cause, like, brain clots and shit."
"And ladies," Maddie finished her click-clacking on the main security console. "That is how you turn off remote cameras. They'll notice them offline eventually, but should give us time to do what we need to. G-d dammit." Her eyes swept over to the knocked out, and she stamped her foot in frustration. "You guys suck. Holding out on all the good tricks.
"Sigh. Now we just have to wait for the others to do their thing."
