[Log] Tandy and Maddie: The Talk

Maddie has a talk with Tandy about what will happen if she breaks Clint's heart.

"Come in Tandy."

Maddie greeted her suitemate as soon as she sensed the girl's presence behind her. She was calmly sitting on the suite's couch, having been waiting for her friend for some time. A bowl of pistachios was nestled in her lap, and she was flanked on either side by two bowls, one half full with cracked shells, the other containing the small, green nuts.

"Sit down with me for awhile."

"Hey Maddie. What is up?" Tandy took a seat nearby and leaned back in the chair. "I didn't know you liked pistachios."

"I love pistachios." The redhead smiled and reached for another pistachio. With deft fingers, she cracked open the shell and tossed the broken pieces in with its companions, her gaze remaining on the other girl.

"I hear that in my absence you and Clint cultivated... a reciprocal romantic interest."

"They are pretty good." Tandy watched as the other teen cracked the shells. The blonde gave a little nervous smile, "Uh...yea. We have have been hanging out throughout the break. I am going to spare you the details but yea. Is there something the matter?"

Maddie raised an eyebrow and reached for another pistachio. "Is something the matter, Tandy? You tell me."

"I don't think so. I mean everything is pretty much the same as it always has." Tandy looked up at Maddie and shrugged. "I like him."

Maddie pursed her lips and paused. Her eyes flicked up and down, surveying all of Tandy's person. She looked nervous (Good, Maddie thought,, she should be), but nothing about how she was holding herself indicated to Maddie that Tandy was lying. Good. The side of Maddie's lip raised up in a sardonic smirk as she leaned in. "He likes you too," she stated simply.

Tandy bit her lower lip why was she feeling like she was under a microscope at that moment. "Good. I mean I would feel weird when we watched our black and white films on Sundays. I feel like there is something else you want to talk to me about."

"Hmmm." Crack!

Maddie's eyebrows raised as she continued to study the girl before her. She maintained an even, distant countenance, yet inside she was smiling. Tandy was her friend, of course, but so was Clint; she wanted neither of them to get hurt. Clint had been hurt before by a girl, she knew, and he was not as invulnerable as he appeared. And while Maddie knew that he could take care of himself, she was determined that Clint would not have to be in a situation where he had to take care of himself. Not if she could help it anyways.

Crack!

Her hands continued to occupy themselves with the task of freeing the meat of the pistachio from its protective shell. The bowl of separated legumes was slowly growing as Maddie remained silent, her focus on the blonde across from where she sat, the sound of the shell splitting filling the room.

Until she came to one she could not open. It was one of those pistachios where the shell was barely cracked. If you had nails (which Maddie didn't) you could slide one of them into the slit, but you'd likely break a nail in the process. A tough nut to crack, literally. One that would likely be tossed aside only later to be broken desperately with a hammer in order to get at the flesh inside.

She held the nut up, balanced between her fingers on her right hand, so that Tandy to get a good look at it. "You know," Maddie began casually. She reached into the broken shell pieces and extracted one of the larger pieces. "Even the strongest shell," she slid the broken shell into the small crack. "When hit just right," with her left hand she twisted the shell piece, and the crack began to slowly widen.

Crack! A rogue piece of shell jumped into the air, revealing the nut that had been trapped inside. "Will always break."

She raised an eyebrow at Tandy. "Do you understand what I'm saying?"

Tandy sat in silence as Maddie continued to crack open pistachios, with each crack it seemed like she was trying to send a message. She winced slightly as the last shell broke and at what Maddie was saying. "That...everything has a weakness?" The blonde wasn't sure the meaning but she had a pretty good idea. "Is this about, if I hurt Clint in any shape or form you will come and find me even if I am hiding under the strongest of shells?"

"Now Tandy," Maddie's tone turned charmingly saccharine and she smiled brightly. "I never said that. You did. I'm just eating pistachios."

Tandy smirked slightly, "You mean cracking pistachios. But fair enough. And don't worry I am not planning on breaking hearts. I really do like him."

"Good." Maddie mirrored Tandy's smirk and offered up the bowl of cleaned pistachio meat. "Pistachio?"

"Sure." Tandy leaned over and took a pistachio from the bowl, before eyeing Maddie suspiciously. "This isn't another metaphor is it?"

"No." The look of innocence was, for once, real. "It's just a tasty tasty little legume."

Maddie rose and stacked the three bowls on top of one another. Her message had been received loud and clear, and in the process she had opened more than enough pistachios to fill her needs. "Now if you'll excuse me," she smiled, "I am going to go make some ice cream. Toodles."

But before she could leave, she paused at the doorway; there was one last thing to take care of. "If you hurt him," her voice darkened. "I will cut out your still beating heart and put it in a jar and store it on my mantle." Then with a bright smile and gleeful giggle, Maddie stepped out into the hallway, sunnily calling back behind her "See you later, Tandy!"

Tandy raised an eyebrow at her suitemate and watched her as she was going to leave the room. She sat there dumbstruck in silence as the threat had been given and received, "Bye." Was all she got out as she looked forward processing on just what transpired between the two girls. "Note to self: Do not ever cross Maddie. And find her mantel."
