Log: Matt and Sue

Backdated to March 12. Matt and Sue discuss their relationship and the future and...the status of them.

This was a pretty good week overall, but it was about to go down the toilet. Knocking on Sue's door, Matt anxiously fidgeted from side to side hoping Sue was there. Well, he knew she was, he could hear her heartbeat. But...well, he was still nervous. She needed to get the door, even though it hadn't been that long. It felt like an eternity.

Sue peeked over the edge of the book she had been reading and glanced around the suite, she'd just gotten comfortable and really didn't want to have to get up if she could get someone else to answer the door. Sadly it looked like she was the only person left in the suite. With a sigh the girl levered herself out of her spot on the couch and walked over to answer the door, reflecting wryly on the unfairness of the universe. "Matt...hey," Sue's smile became a little more glassy and fixed without the blonde even thinking about it, "Do you want to come in?"

"Yeah," Matt nodded. It was a good thing he couldn't see her expression, though her could tell she was nervous about something and stressing. It hadn't started until she'd answered the door though. That wasn't good. "I mean, if I can," he knew not all of Sue's suitemates liked him but he didn't hear any other heartbeats right now.

"Of course you can, It's just me and you for now. Everyone else seems to have run off somewhere without me noticing." Sue replied stepping to the side to let him step past her into the suite. "I saw you got into College, that's great. See I told you you didn't have anything to worry about." she said genially as she settled back down onto the couch. "So, what's up?

Sitting down, Matt didn't look at Sue. It wasn't uncommon for his gaze to be slightly off from another persons, as much as he could hear a heartbeat or know where someone was, he was still blind and meeting someone else's eyes wasn't really a skill he possessed. "Yeah, you did," he agreed. "I just...you didn't comment on my journal or anything. I had to come find you..." this wasn't the first time he'd missed his girlfriend or found she had other plans or something without him. They didn't have to be glued at the hip, but it seemed to be happening a lot more recently, "I don't think this is working, Sue," he blurted out, cutting to the chase.

Sue closed her mouth, Matt's last statement had cut through the quip she was going to make about always being here. Her eye's dropped to the floor, unwilling to look up at his face, "You didn't tell me anything either Matt," she pointed out quietly. "I had to find out from your journal just like everyone else, I got nothing from you. Not a text or an e-mail saying you had made it in to college; that's the kind of news you want to share with people who're special to you." By now Sue's voice was starting to pick up, "I think you may be right. it doesn't really seem to be working does it," she agreed sadly.

Matt had looked for her before posting, but he hadn't emailed or texted. He wasn't a fan of texting. Still...she had a point. "I guess, better this than...I dunno. Some huge fight. I'm graduating and going to college in the fall," and staying right here at the mansion, but Sue would still be in high school regardless.

"Better this just fizzle out instead of blowing up?" Sue wanted to tell Matt that he was wrong, that it was worth fighting for a future but she just couldn't. "You're off to college and you won't have as much time to hang out with me you mean?"

She made him sound like the bad guy here, but he was only saying what they were both thinking. "I just... we're friends, right? I want to stay friends. I don't want to fight."

Sue sighed, "I dunno, I mean sure we're friends Matt. But lets not kid ourselves, it's not that you're going to college next year." The blonde gave Matt a weak smile, "we just drifted apart. We just didn't feel enough to keep together."

He felt like crap. He knew this needed to be done, they were fizzling and they both knew it, but it still felt so...final. "Sorry...." Matt guessed he could have been a better boyfriend, though he wasn't sure how. It wasn't really like he had anyone to mimic really. He'd tried. "No I'm sorry," Sue replied as she leaned forward in her chair, "I shouldn't be taking it out on you, making you seem like the bad guy. It happens, it's just frustrating how things have turned out now.," The blonde's face fell as she thought about their situation, "I don't know what happened." she admitted. "I'm, I was comfortable but..."

"Doesn't really matter, does it?" Matt asked, "We're teenagers. If this was a TV show we'd've broken up three times, had a pregnancy scare and one of us would have cheated with someone's roommate. Kinda glad we didn't do that, you know?" Especially a pregnancy scare. They'd never had sex at all. Sue had to laugh at that, a genuine laugh that left her feeling better, "Can you imagine our lives on TV? I thought that things were strange enough around here already." She nodded at Matt, "Yeah, I'm kinda glad we didn't either, I'm not sure how I'd have coped with a pregnancy scare on top of everything else that's happened."

"Me too," Matt agreed vehemently, "Um. Well. I'll....see you around then?" Awkward. Of course he would, they both went to Xavier's and it was a very small place all things considered. "Yeah I'll see you round Matt," Sue confirmed. "Matt," she called as he stood up and started for the door, "Thank you, for coming to talk to me, and for being the best first boyfriend I could have asked for." If he hadn't have had the guts to come and talk to her now, who knows how things might have turned out.
