X-Factor Casefile: The Sting: Revelations

Sue and Julian have a heart to heart looking into the Danger Room.

The steam shower had done wonders to relax the stress that had been put on by being shot at during a rather surprising car chase in the city. Now redressed in more casual attire- slacks, and a t-shirt beneath an unbuttoned vest- Julian sought out the woman who had been at the wheel during the morning theatrics. His first stop was her guest suite, but she appeared to not be there- which would be unsurprising, given what he had been led to believe was a curious disposition. After a half-hour of wandering, he finally asked someone if they had seen her and ascertained her location; heading there directly.
"Operational compartmentalization," Julian shrugged, hoping she accepted the answer as it sounded less crazy (and less likely to destroy the universe) than 'oh, you used to be one of them until the fabric of reality was torn asunder and now you don't remember any of it.' He looked down at the group running a basic teamwork scenario on its most difficult setting. "I'm not one of them anyway- I help with the kids."
Sue arched an eyebrow at that and slipped her arm through Julian's leaning comfortably against him, "You don't sound to over hte moon about them." she noted. "Is everything ok? Anything I should know? ... Wait this isn't some kinda cult is it?"
"I'm not completely against them, they do have their purpose- and the people who join their team put their lives on the line to ensure that mutants and humans see their next day. Though, now that you mention it..." he shrugged. "It has all the makings of a cult, but I wouldn't call it one, no." He smiled down at his friend attempting to be reassuring, "I just help kids get a handle on their powers- and try to keep them from joining up with the X-Men, or at least give them other options."
"You know, I never would have imagined you as a teacher or mentor or something," Sue noted, "it's not something I ever saw when thinking of you, But, I dunno, you seem...content when you were talking about the students. You're really enjoying this huh?" The blood drained from Sue's face, "Wait, I don't have to join this student training team do I?"
"No. You're a guest for now- my guest, so please keep that in mind," Julian watched as someone got blasted to the ground by a drone, wincing a little as he recalled how often he'd been in the same spot. "As a guest, you don't have to do anything you don't want to- but I'd advise staying off social media and not contacting anyone for the time being. If you'd like to send a message, I can send it." He looked at Sue thoughtfully, she was older than he remembered, and though he could imagine his Sue being involved in something that could result in a ransacked apartment, he had no idea what this one was capable of. "I know Scott asked you, but...do you have any idea why they were after you?"
"Ah, not really," Sue replied smoothly, a barely noticeable pause was all the slip she made. "Maybe they wanted something from work? Or it could have been another kidnapping attempt? I thought people had stopped but I guess there's always someone out there who wants money in the worst way." The blonde's mind went guiltily to the usb drive in her pocket, she felt bad not telling Julian about it, but if these people were coming after her the last thing she wanted to do was to get her best friend involved in the mess. She'd made her bed and she'd have to sort it out.
Julian considered her for a moment, "No," he said coolly. "They were looking for something. They were gone before we got to your place...probably because they didn't find what they were looking for. Then they came for both of us, and knew where we were going to be and when, which means either my driver or secretary was in on it." He didn't relish finding out it was Fiona, given that she coordinated things for other higher-ups in the company aside from just him and firing her would paint a target on him. "They thought it would be at your place, but it either wasn't or you had a password on it." He watched for her reactions, at the mention of password he pounced, "USB drive?"
"Ahh....it's not mine," Sue admitted, "I picked it up from a...one of the people I know...used to know gave me a tip. A guy in New York who had been spouting rhetoric and had been asking about some mutants in town. They said he was fishy and," the blonde shrugged, "I thought I'd take a look around and see if there was anything I could find but there was some information or anything I could find on him. You know in case he was upto anything suspicious but well, there was a latino guy, he just appeared there like out of no-where." It felt good to tell someone, she was still a little shaken about the whole thing and Julian already knew most things about her past. "It was just like wham and he was ther. I might have maybe been seen or left something. a guy just appearing kinda shook me up a little."
"He got the drop on you?" Julian arched a brow and leaned against the console, setting his back to the action below while being careful to not hit any buttons. The fireworks of the team's performance behind him would lend an air of credibility to what he was about to ask next, "Okay, so I assume you have it on you...what was on it?"
"That's the thing," Sue threw her hands up in frustration, "Absolutely nothing I can think of. Just a bunch of reports. You know X did Y at Z. We saw burns at by a building on Ash and West. All this for a bunch of useless reports. Only if they';re so desperate for them then there has to be something there. I just don't know what."
Julian mulled it over for a moment, considering who would be the best person to contact first. After a beat of silence filled the room, he held out his open palm; steeling his gaze on Sue.
"I..ah," oh what the hell, it's not like she could actually do anyhting with it, "Here," Sue deposited a usb drive in Julian's hand. "See if you can make anything of it."
The thumb-drive quickly slid into Julian's pocket, "Not me, we have some tech experts on staff who will figure out what they're after." Julian smiled and placed his hand on Sue's shoulder, "You're safe here for the time being. We'll get this figured out, or...they will, it's what they do." Giving her shoulder a reassuring squeeze, he motioned toward the door, "We never did get lunch- are you hungry?"
