Molly & Alani | Poolside (Backdated)
Following recent events, Molly's attempt to relax by the pool are put on hold by Alani.
The weather was almost exactly like home and it was lovely, as far as Alani was concerned. But bigger matters were at hand, and she stared at the mansion’s pool, brows furrowed as she stared into the clear waters. She couldn’t put to rest the feeling that there was something she was forgetting something. At the sound of footsteps she looked up, bringing up a hand to keep the sun out of her eyes. "Howdy, you here to beat the heat?" She questioned, grin sliding across her face with ease.
Molly was wearing a purple swimsuit and metallic green sunglasses with a fish scale print. She grabbed her towel and put it on a nearby chair.
"Nope, trying to soak it in," she said. Visiting ice world and becoming an involuntary snowcone made her appreciate the sun. She extended her hand.
"I'm Molly!"
Alani sat up as straight as she could muster, beaming at Molly and taking her offered hand. "Holy fuck. You're Molly?"
"Oh my god, this must seem a bit weird to you. But I have heard about you, and your moose, and your super strength. Okay, I mean, I heard about them all from Angelo, but also, dream power, so I have wanted to meet you, haven't, and now I am. Oh, and I'm ranting. I promise I'm not always like this, but you have been at the top of my 'need to meet' list from almost the moment I got here."
She released the other girl's hand and stood up, chuckling as she took stock to make sure she hadn't ruined her seat. Luckily it didn't seem any worse for wear.
Molly blinked repeatedly, taking off her sunglasses. "Dude," she said with a giggle. "I totally don't know what to say."
She'd never really had someone excited to meet her before. It was pretty cool and didn't at all make her sheepish at all. Nope.
"Wait...so you have dream powers or super strength is a dream power?" she said, pointing one way, then another as she tried to figure it out.
"Well, hopefully I didn't ruin any chance I had of befriending you with my lapse into motor mouth." Alani chuckled as she sat back down, still smiling cheerfully.
"Oh, good question," she pointed in the direction Molly had assigned to the latter. "My dream power would have been super strength, if I had a choice. Not that I hate what I got, but, I would love to do that thing from cartoons where you pick up the couch and vacuum beneath it, ya know?"
Molly grinned. "I totally do that," she said proudly. Sometimes with people on it. It was kinda (okay super) fun. She usually got permission, of course.
"But I bet your power's cool too! What do you do?"
Alani clapped at the statement, smile pulling back on her lips. "Yes! That is amazing!" It was nice to have a semi-normal conversation about fun matters.
"Oh, I don't know go through things but they don't go back together, and, well, I can do underwater stuff. Which is new and funky fresh." She made a face, nonetheless, at the statement.
"What do you mean?" Molly said, unable to hide her curiosity. Tilting her head, she hopped up out of her chair. "Ooh! Can you show me? If that's totally okay with you, of course."
One of the fun things about being around other people with superpowers was that everyone did something different. It was fun to see and, well, if they were ever fighting a bad guy together then it'd be good to see if they could use their powers to work together.
Molly's excitement was infectious, and a smile tugged back at Alani's lips. "Yeah, sure, um, I probably shouldn't use the chair, that costs money." Unfortunately it wasn't like there was a pile of things laying around with a 'all good to destroy' sign above it, so she snatched up her crocs, held them up for Molly's view, and sighed as she began to slide her hands through the shoes. The pink light she'd become accustomed to illuminated the area around her hands, and the resin began to crumble into pieces. With just the pieces, she looked back to Molly.
"Not gonna lie, I'm going to be so embarrassed if you meant you wanted to watch me sit on the bottom of the pool for, like, an hour." Alani laughed lightly, though she flushed.
Molly's mouth dropped open and she sat up in her chair, pulling down her sunglasses.
"Dude," she said. Her smile grew broader. "Wait---what did you turn them into? Is it still rubber?" She squinted thoughtfully.
"Can you eat it?"
Alani chuckled, but she shook her head negatory. "It's still shoe, and I would not recommend eating it." Holding the material out to let her examine it if she so chose. “It just isn’t in shoe form anymore.” “The lights really add to it, in my opinion.”
Reaching out, Molly paused. "Can I touch it? Or is this just for staring?" she said, leaning in closer.
"Okay, so you said it's still a shoe. So if you touched an orange and it crumbled, could you still eat THAT?"
She was not sure why she was suddenly obsessed with eating things but she just went with it. Because SCIENCE.
Grinning, Alani offered a piece. "Of course you can touch it." She was taken aback by the question and made a face, as she thought about the question. "Well... I mean... hypothetically, I think you could? Because the rind is technically edible. My biggest concern would be, would an orange keep it's liquid intact? Would it even taste good? I don't know." But she was curious now. No reason she shouldn't be putting her hands through fruits to test if they were still edible.
Molly took the shard of shoe, the shoe shard, examining it curiously. At her comments, she looked up and slowly grinned back.
"We could always try it. Like now maybe?"
Alani watched Molly examine the piece, caught between curiosity and the urge to be lazy. Of course, her parents had raised a do-er. "Like right now, now? Because I would very much be down, but I don't want to drag you away from your relaxation. I can offer you wrecked fruits, though."
"Eh, I think I got enough sun," Molly said. "Science sounds funner."
She eyed the pool. "Wait. Have you ever tried to do it to water? I mean...not that the entire pool wouldn't be awesome but we could do it with a glass of water or an ice cube or something."
"I actually... haven't tried it on water or any liquids, knowingly." Alani trailed off, before standing with purpose... or so she hoped. "We'll add it to the list. I don't know if I could do the pool, so we're stealing fruit and a glass of water to see what happens."
Molly laughed. "Aw man as cool as that'd be that's probably a good idea. I do like the pool," she said.Grabbing her towel, Molly dried herself off.
"So when did you find out you could do that?"
"'M a little afraid I might hurt the foundation, which would be no good at all.” Alani shook her head. "Wreck shit? I, uh, fell through a couch when I was fifteen... and now I can mostly do it at will."
"Dude, you fell through a couch?" Molly said, turning to look at her. "That's awesome! Well..I mean, you know if you weren't hurt. Could you like...ever go through...the 2nd floor of something onto the first floor?"
"I wasn't hurt," Alani chuckled though she sheepishly rubbed at her upper arm. "I, uh, haven't done a lot of tests. Small things that I can easily replace mostly. The bigger it is, the more tired it makes me. I might be able to go through a floor? You're really making my think, Molly."
Molly paused. "Oh, sorry! I uh...get really excited about science sometimes," she said with an awkward grin.
"When I used my powers at first as a kid I got really tired too. I mean....I still get tired but I don't pass out anymore, so that's good. I'd just like...pick up something really heavy and then bam!, take a nap right there. Now I still get sleepy but I practiced it enough to where it's less. Oh yeah, I also always keep caffeine on me too." She reached into the waterproof pouch she had with her and pulled out a five hour energy to demonstrate.
"No, don't apologize! It's a good thing, Molly." Alani laughed, grinning once again.
"I let myself kinda stagnate in testing what I could do once I figured out how to..not do what I do. You know what, it's not even nap tired! If it's something bigger, but not like a vault, I just feel icky and lethargic, like I have a killer cold, ya know? Though I did straight up pass out once when I was younger then had a headache from hell." She chuckled, visibly perking up once Molly mentioned caffeine supplements. "Oh, that's super smart! So your body still has energy! You're a genius."
Molly blinked then giggled, touched by the compliment. "Thanks! Yeah, the caffeine kinda takes the edge off. We could try it when we do small stuff? I think there's some soda in the fridge. Or do you like coffee?"
Alani nodded along eagerly. "Yeah, I'm a coffee gal myself, so I'd be down to have a cuppa ready while we see what exactly happens with these little things."
"Cool! Let's go science the heck out of it," Molly said excitedly.
