REALITY1: Proof of Concept - Log 5

The discover the source of the anomaly and the dangerous fracture about to be created.

Ignoring the sounds of battle behind them, the four plunged into the woods on the mansion grounds, following the signal on Kitty's wrist computer towards the anomaly fracture their scans had turned up. It was only by sheer luck Kane caught sight of the human-like figures in purple and black. He waved Kitty and Molly down, while Matt at the rear had just detected them as well, coming up to join them. They crept closer, and a white haired man with a goatee was standing surrounded by the other figures. They looked human until you looked closer and saw that the circuitry ranged up their necks and in lines on what looked like exposed flesh.

"Karima, have you finished your scans?"

"The energy signature is just as we detected, Bastian. This is a dimensional fracture."

"Naturally occurring or some plan of the X-Men, it is irrelevant. This is ours now to exploit. Projecting Sentinels across every dimension to eradicate the mutant threat for good." Bastian said. "We need to access it."

"MasterMold is creating a Prime with the correct energy signature to interact with it. Anticipated arrival time is 21 minutes."

"I want a defensive perimeter established. Nothing can get through."

The group crept back from the clearing and deeper into the woods. "None of that sounds good."

"Those are....what ARE they?" Matt asked, unable to quite understand. They were cyborgs? Human machines? Something else? "They're not human, right?"

"What're you guys seeing?" Clint asked, wishing for the millionth time that he could get visuals. He wasn't used to being on comms, but he had a job to do, so until things went totally FUBAR, he'd maintain his position.

"Man and machine," Kitty breathed, then winced as she realized exactly how stupid it sounded. "Uhhhh... cyborgs."

"Like Kitty said. Some kind of cyborgs or something. But they are currently guarding the area of the distortion and are in strength." Kane said. "If we can take out some of their people around the edge, maybe the others can bring the... the X-Men down on them?"

"Works for me. Whatever they are, we have less than 21 minutes before Jeff Bezos Bot comes to spread evil cyborgs to other dimensions. Like maybe ours. Hawkeye can you tell the others to get the X-Men over here while we quietly turn these guys into a scrap heap?"

"Yes, ma'am," Clint said, already switching over to the other team's comm for verbal communication while still keeping an ear on what was going on with the first.

Reaching down to thumb open the latch for his billy clubs, Matt grinned, "That one's human," he murmured, pointing to the guarded man in the middle. "The rest...not so much. Subtlety isn't an option."

"Robots are good. No issues taking them out. The others are trying to bring these X-Men our way. Let's thin the ranks. Matt, Molly, you go left, Kitty and I will go right. See if you can pick off a couple of stragglers." Kane said, and they parted into pairs.

It didn't take long to approach a pair of Sentinels conducting their sweep. Kane silently motioned to Kitty and moved right to flank the other.

Robot fights were one of Kitty's favorite things.

She grinned, then darted in front of it, drawing the attention of the Sentinel on the left. It lurched toward her, a red beam of light washing over where she stood. But she'd phased and she ran toward it, swinging wide and throwing a punch through its chest. The Sentinel sputtered and sparked, sending a shower of light up into the air as she yanked herself back, just before its gears began to grind and drag. It slumped over and the ground rocked a little under the force of the Sentinel's weight.

As the other turned in response, Kane came out of the forest behind him, impossibly fast. His hands grasped it by the head and twisted with all of his superstrength. There was a brief heartbeat as the armor tried to hold, but with a squeal of metal, he ripped the head clean off. He dropped it next to the body.

"I hope the others are doing as well."

Being small and short, it was very easy for Molly to be stealthy. Her moves were quick and light across the ground, and the Sentinel didn't even notice she was there until she had jumped on its shoulders. Her eyes glowed purple as the Sentinel flailed for a split second before she crushed it's head with her thighs and the robot fell to the ground with a heavy ker--thunk.

Molly quickly jumped off, then dragged the body into the trees to hide it.

Molly might be small and short, whereas Matt was tall and lean, but that didn't mean he couldn't be stealthy either. Keeping to shadows wasn't difficult if he paid attention to the cooler spots with less sun and his suit allowed him to blend in nicely. Additionally, he was highly trained in several martial arts. Stealth was part of his makeup. Unfortunately, he did not have super strength. Super senses, but not super muscles. He should likely be grateful for that, but in the moment he cursed it.

Copying Molly so that he too was on the sentinel's shoulders, Matt then threw himself backwards, bringing the entire machine with him, flipping it over his head. Releasing it as soon as he could, he was already up and smashing his billy club into its eyes and as deep into the head portion as he could manage, scrambling its circuits by simply breaking as much of it as possible and continuing to do so until it stopped. Whatever he hit on his first go-through must have been effective enough though, as the sentinel didn't resist for more than a few seconds.
