LOG: Match and Shatterstar BACKDATED
Backdated to 12/28/2023 Shatterstar and Match get sidetracked slightly before they exchange late Christmas gifts.
The child ninja breaking into the mansion had interrupted Match’s plans to give gifts before those leaving had left for the holidays. So he’d waited until Shatterstar was confirmed back before he sought out the taller boy. Knocking on the door of the room he shared with Liam, Match taped a beat on his thighs before the door opened and he instinctively took a step back. “Hey! S-sorry, you busy?”
"Not at all," Shatterstar said, hands tucked into a new sweatshirt but otherwise looking as he always did even if he had only been back a few hours. He hadn't even gotten a chance to figure out how he could help with the mansion repairs. "Has your bite healed?" He asked teasingly.
"Honestly? Yeah," Match paused to look at his arm, though the jacket made that a little hard, then he realized that was likely a joke and snorted. "No one expects to get bitten, dude! I just tried to grab her to stop everything and she was a ninja! How am I supposed to fight a ninja?"
Shatterstar opened his mouth to respond, the beginning of the word "actually" halfway out of his mouth before he thought. "Are you being rhetorical or do you actually want to know? And as for a ninja with powers, that I don't know." It was a testament to how he trusted Match by now that he leaned against the door frame just slightly.
"Well she is a ninja with powers, so I guess learning how to fight a ninja would be the first step in learning how to take her down," Match spoke instinctively, brows drawn together in the severity he took the conversation. "Do you actually know how to fight a ninja?"
"Only some theoreticals," Shatterstar shrugged, thinking back and chewing his lower lip. "If I remember correctly it's mostly about making sure they stay cornered. I don't know for sure though; it's been a few years since I did AMA. I bet we could ask Doug." He realized they might have been getting off subject. "Did you come to ask how to fight ninjas?"
“…No,” he admitted slowly, suddenly unsure and contemplating bolting back to the room he shared with a purple cat. “I, uh, I got you a Christmas gift, and I was gonna give it to you before you left but then- I uh was putting out fires the rest of the night, so I never- I didn’t end up giving it to you.”
"One second," Shatterstar said before disappearing into his suite.
A minute or so later he reappeared, wrapped package in hand. "I also got you a Christmas gift but again, you were putting out fires. I was going to find you to give it to you later today."
“Oh,” Match hadn’t expected that, and he made no attempt to hide his surprise, but rather than try to take the gift, he instead paused to pull his backpack off. After a moment, he pulled out a package of his own. Poorly wrapped, but wrapped all the same. "Thanks. Here."
Shatterstar nodded as seriously as if they had just exchanged oaths. "Thank you." Then he paused. "Who goes first?"
"You go," Match blurted the words quickly, knowing the area around him was heating up but trying to discreetly breathe through it.
Shatterstar struggled to open the package carefully, but actually had a smile on his face when Snoopy's face was revealed to him and smiled even more when the Woostock in the beagle's arms was revealed. He held the plushie up to the light for a moment before nodding in affirmation. "Now we match," he said confidently. "I appreciate this gift greatly."
A crooked smile stretched across Match's face for a moment before he nodded, looking down to open the gift he'd been given. "Good, I'm glad, and I guess we do. I just thought you might like it, Sno-" he cut himself off, not wanting to show he'd forgotten the creature's name. Why was it he could remember the pets he searched for but not this little guy? "Oh, I am a detective now. I'm excited to watch this."
"Gilda is considered one of the best noir movies. We can watch it together if you do not have a DVD player," Shatterstar nodded towards the movie and the sticky note on it- Bc your a detective now. Shatterstar's posture was a trusting relaxed. "Merry Christmas, Match. Even if it's late."
"Yeah, we can do that for a movie night in the future. Cats wants to show me the Hunger Game, so, we'll have to do that first." Match reasoned. A slight grin. "Merry Christmas, Shatterstar."
