Dixie Dead Shake - Log 1

A conversation at Harry's turns into a road trip.

"So, I got some news." Garrison said, coming back to the table with drinks; a cosmo for Jean, white wine for MA, a Moosehead for Amanda, and a coke for himself. He'd already had two and that was his limit these days. His grin distracted from the dark shadows under his eyes and the increasing gauntness of his face. "Seems that once a year, the Canadian government opens up a temporary embassy in New Orleans to process any claims from citizens who have Acadian ancestors who can claim Canadian citizenship. All Canadian Embassies require an RCMP liaison and I won the Golden Ticket this year." He passed out the drinks and dropped into his chair beside Jean. "Interested in a trip with me?"

"To New Orleans? For how long?" Jean said curiously. For all her travels around Europe and the US she had never been there specifically. She'd been interested, but it just never came up in the cards.

"It's about a week. The pop-up embassy is for five days. I was thinking we could drive down." He took a sip. "What do you guys think? MA? Maybe drive down with us? I know you've got friends there."

"Not in the police car." Marie-Ange said. "Nor any recreational vehicles. It is a two day drive, I want a proper absurd rented SUV. Seat warmers and two cupholders a person and nine phone chargers" She swirled the wine glass, and took a drink. "Jean, I need your promise that should you perchance see me eating a Dorito, that you did not."

"Love, your secret junk food habit isn't as secret as you think," Amanda teased her girlfriend as she set her pint down after the first draft. "But New Orleans could be fun. We haven't really been down there since... well, since M-Day, to be honest."

"I've never been. Heard all kinds of things. It's not festival season per se, but apparently stuff is going on all the time." Kane said, the quick smile an echo of earlier days. "You can explore while I'm in the embassy in the full red serge dress." He said to Jean.

"And miss that? I have to get a gander before I go at least," Jean mused. "Not everyday you break that out."

She also smiled innocently at Marie-Ange. "Also, your secret is safe with me...for a price."

Marie-Ange made a face at Amanda. "It's not a secret secret, it is a secret from some people. Children. Enemies. Jubilee." She finished her glass of wine, and pulled out her phone. "I visited very briefly after M-Day, but it was for powers reasons. I think it is time to return, yes. It would be good for us to have a trip. I want to eat real beignets and listen to jazz."

“So, when do we leave?”

Jubilee settled her arms over the shoulders of both Jean and Garrison and grinned at her fellow spies.

“Pretty sure I could convince Rogue and Fi to do most of the driving too.”

She’d been close enough to hear the words jazz, and her name but frankly she didn’t much care where it was, or if she was actively invited as long as it was 1. Out of New York and 2. included booze. That it happened to include some of her favourite people was a bonus.

"Wait, what?" Kane said, suddenly taken aback by Jubilee's appearance.

Jubilee looked behind her where Rogue and Fi had just sat down beside a somewhat confused looking Jessica Jones.

“Girls! We’ve got a road trip! Like, a swanky one this time! “

Jubilee turned back to the others, her arms still curled around Jean and Garrison’s shoulders.

“We’re making Snow Valley pay for it, right? Cause like, I’m pretty sure I can come up with a work reason for ‘trip to the South’”

Felicia smiled sharply, her arm hooking into Jessica's to keep her from getting up. "What else is a degree in accounting for if not ripping off your boss?" she asked, draping a thigh over her companion's as extra precaution. "Petty cash heavy, low card though, I value my life."

"I don't." Rogue answered, laughing. She was too trashed for any kind of serious conversation -- so trashed that she hadn't even noticed anyone else was around. Obviously Garrison would be there. Wait, if he was there, why was she paying for her drinks? Or was Fi paying.... "I actually have no idea what we're talking about but we all know I'm up for shenanigans anytime so I'm in!!"

Amanda had opened her mouth to give Jubilee a hint - a Large hint - that perhaps it wasn't polite to invite yourself to roadtrips. But then things had escalated and now there was apparently a group of them going? She gave Marie-Ange a rather helpless look of resignation and reached for her pint again. Apparently she was going to need a lot more beer for this one.

"My fault. I said her name." Marie-Ange mouthed silently at Amanda. "We can expense some of it. There is actually work to be done." And she loathed paying for her own trips. What was the point of running a spy organzation if one could not expense things and make her tax accountant cry. "I am not expensing anyone's sidewalk margaritas, nor beads. It is the wrong season besides."

“It’s settled then. We are all going to be fucking fabulous together.”

Jubilee grinned brightly and slipped away to the bar, mind alight with plans for New Orleans and just what they’d get up to on the company dime.
