Jubilee and Manny log.
When: Thursday 22nd July 2004 3:00pm
Who: Jubilation Lee, Manuel de la Rocha, Amanda Sefton
What happens: Jubilee decides to teach Manny how to Rollerblade, Manny falls over and then so does Jubilee. They Kiss, then Jubes gets cold feet.
Song: Lyrics on the cut are from the song Veteran of the Psychic Wars by Blue Oyster Cult.
Jubilee knocked on Manuel's door, hoping that Amanda wouldn't be inside. It wasn't that she particularly minded her being inside; just that lately she'd been trying to avoid the other girl. Since she'd sent Amanda that e-mail, telling her of her parent's death, she'd not wanted to see her. She supposed it was childish but the sharing of that particular experience had left her feeling somewhat vulnerable. She hated feeling that way with an enemy.
She picked up the two pairs of rollerblades and held them in her hands as she waited for Manuel to answer. One pair was her own, and the other she'd brought at the local mall, having gotten Manuel's shoe size from him earlier. She just hoped they fit; rollerblades were always somewhat iffy when it came to sizing.
Manuel answered the door, knowing full well who was on the other side of it. "Jubilee! Good to see you. Come in, please? Can I get you anything?" he asked, playing the role of the gracious host to the hilt. Sparing a glance to the sets of rollerblades she held in her hand, he ahhhed. "On the other hand, I'm guessing you'd prefer to go out for this, am I right?"
She laughed, shaking her head. "Well, less you can figure some way we can rollerblade inside, I'd say it's a big ten-four to that. So, like, haven't seen ya round much lately, was beginnin' ta think you didn't want ta see me anymore."
Manuel shook his head. "No, not at all! I have my own life to conduct and affairs to get in order. As much as I might like to, I simply cannot just devote all of my days to idleness. Mistress Frost is a hard taskmistress." he said with a rueful grin. "But I'm off-duty right now, and I have nothing pending, so..." he trailed off with a grin.
Jubilee grinned suddenly and winked. "Gotcha. Come on Mr Empath, let's go teach ya how ta rollerblade like a pro."
She grabbed his hand and tugged him along the hall, down the main stairs and out into the bright sunshine of early afternoon. It was a perfect day for it, not much breeze and a sun high in a blue sky that seemed to stretch all the way to forever.
She looked back at Manny and pointed to a bench a little ways off. "We'll put our blades on there and then just go between there and the first lamp post at first."
Manuel allowed himself to be led with a smile. Touch always made his power sharper, more sensitive, and now was no exception. He reinforced his walls as best he could while he was being dragged, and when she finally relented he took another moment to strengthen them even more. "Sure, whatever you want." he said agreeably. He wasn't too sure about this, but he was always an athletic child. How hard could this be?
"Race ya there" she said, taking off at a run.
She knew she was probably acting like she'd been into the pixie sticks again but it was a beautiful day outside and she was happy. Manuel followed at a dead run, laughing and allowing Jubilee's good mood to infect his own, sharing the simple pleasure of a beautiful day. He was a mite too slow, as the Chinese girl beat him to the bench by just a fingertip. "Damn. I lost." he said with a grin. "So what's the penalty for losing?"
"Ice-cream!" Jubilee said, her smile bright. "Gotta buy me ice-cream after we finish here. There's a Gelato place not far from here, least not when you're usin' rollerblades anyhow. It'll give ya some on road practice too."
She passed him his pair of rollerblades and sat down on the bench, using her toes to push off her shoes. She quickly put her rollerblades on and stood up, testing them to make sure they weren't loose. It had been awhile since she'd had a chance to blade but for the most part it was like riding a bike, you never really forgot how once you'd learned.
Manuel slipped out of his loafers, and eyed the rollerblades with some concern. Still, he said he'd do it, so he sat down on the bench and slowly laced the rollerblades to his feet. He stood up slowly, testing his balance with arms outstretched. "I hate to be negative, but I don't think I'm going to be ready for rollerblading to this ... what did you call it, gelato? Yes, this gelato shop."
Jubilee held out her hands to him and smiled. "It's easier then it looks. But if like, you totally can't do it by the end I'll see if I can bribe one of the teachers to take us. And yep, gelato. It's Italian, I think. Well, originally Italian, now it's just kinda caught on. It's the best ice-cream, think you'll like it. And it's totally tradition on a summer day. Ice cream that is, not necessarily gelato. Okay, take my hands and we'll work on movin' and then once you've got that we can do stopping and then, turning."
Manuel grabbed onto Jubilee with some gratitude - it stopped his wobbles from spilling him onto his behind. He was a quick study with good balance, and soon got the hang of the absolute basics. He was feeling a little cocky, and let go of Jubilee to roll over to their designated turn-around point, when an errant pebble got under his blades, causing him to take a nasty spill onto the blacktop.
"Manny! You okay, Dude?" she asked, rolling over to him. She offered her hand to help him back up, her eyes somewhat concerned. It had looked like a nasty fall and she hoped he hadn't hurt himself.
Manuel looked at his palms, and the oozing scrapes that decorated both of them. "Assuming you don't mind a little blood, then yes, I could use some assistance." he said, and then held out his hand for Jubilee to take. "It's nothing major. I've had much worse while fencing. Remind me to tell you about the time I got stabbed." he said with a grin.
She laughed, reaching down and grabbing his hands carefully. "Blood doesn't particularly fuss me. Been covered in it often enough. But now I'm like, seriously curious. What the hell did you do ta get stabbed?"
Jubilee pulled, trying to drag Manny back to his feet when the back of his rollerblades slipped and she went tumbling down on top of him, her knees coming down on the grass on either side of his waist as she widened her legs so as not to knee him in the stomach. She blinked, looking him right in the eyes.
Manuel looked up at Jubilee, and then grinned. "Well. This is unexpected. Pleasant, but unexpected. So now that you've got me here, what do you plan to do about it?" he said with a grin. He had a lengthy list of things he'd like to do about it, but the first move had to be hers. He knew her well enough, knew her emotions well enough, to know that.
She licked her lips, not looking away as she thought about what she wanted to do, and what she should do. Finally, making a decision, Jubilee simply gave into the moment and leaned down, brushing her lips across his in a tentative kiss.
Manuel returned it with interest, letting her set the pace and deciding how she liked to be kissed. Once she broke it off for air, he grinned up at her and brushed an errant lock of hair off of her temple. "Very nice." he murmured. "Finally decided what it is that you want?"
She grinned, leaning into his touch. Her eyes were warm with amusement and not a small part of desire. "Yeah, I think I finally did. Question is, do you want me?" she asked, the nervous trembling of her limbs betraying the importance of that question to her.
Manuel grinned again, and then leaned up to claim another kiss. "I could get into that." he said with a smirk. "Are you offering?" he asked her with a distracting brush of his fingertips along her cheek and towards her earlobe.
Jubilee shut her eyes for a second, enjoying the moment. Looking back down at him, she gripped his hand and placed it high on her stomach, smiling suddenly. "Like, you know, I believe I am."
Manuel smiled at Jubilee. "This is very nice, but it's a trifle public, and while that doesn't bother me, it does you. So why don't we take this someplace a little more... private?" he leered gently, his hand on her stomach inching slowly higher.

Amanda was coming down the driveway, having been given a lift back to the school from Stonewall by one of the other stablehands, a somewhat-cute farmboy type who liked to ask her incessant questions about life in London and Brighton. She was tired, but content, and the warmth of the day seemed to reflect her good mood. What she wanted now was a shower, some food, and maybe fool around with Manuel a bit...
Then the link flared with warmth, and she halted. She knew that feeling, extremely well. Only usually it was directed at her.
She looked around - the sensation was so strong, he had to be close by, and saw Manuel lying on his back in the grass, Jubilee sitting on top of him. As she watched, he leaned up to kiss her, and then ran his fingers along her cheek. 'He's just playing with her, it's nothing, nothing more than you and Beth...' she told herself, but there was a sudden taste of bile in the back of her throat and she spun on her heel, breaking into a run towards the house. 'Lee, that fucking bitch. Calls me a whore on my own journal, and then this? Oh, she's dead.'
***
Manuel felt everything that Amanda did, and carefully filed the response away for dealing with - later. Much later. Right now, he had a Chinese girl on his hands who was feeling the most deliciously interesting feelings. Be a shame to break the mood, and since he was Empath, if he didn't want the mood broken, it just wasn't. End of discussion. He slid his hand more brazenly northwards, touching with the lightest of touches, while he waited for her answer.
Jubilee felt his hands moving upwards and decided that she'd been thinking too much over the past month or so. Time to simply let herself feel for a change. Leaning back, she took Manny's hand and pushed herself to her feet. "You're right, a more private place would be good."
Manuel stood up slowly, then brushed himself off as best he could. "Well then." he said with a large grin and a noticeable decrease in the looseness of attire. "My room, I trust?" he asked as he wobbled his way over to the bench to get the 'blades off his feet.
Jubilee glided over to the bench and sat down, leaning down to untie her laces. "Dude, considerin' I have roommates and I totally haven't worked out any kind of 'I'm gettin' some, go away' signal with them. I'd say your room, yes."
"Somehow, I thought so." he said with a smirk, removing the 'blades to put his feet back into his loafers. As Jubilee worked to remove her own skates, he hopped to the other side of the bench and ran a fingertip along the tips of her ears. No harm in getting an early start in finding her sensitive spots...

The problem with an empathic link is that you can't avoid what's coming down it just by leaving. Amanda got to the front porch, glad no-one was around because she was half-sobbing with fury, and all the while she was getting warm, happy sensations down the link. It was different than the time with Dom, or any of the times Manuel had picked up in a nightclub: that had been lust, primal, undeniable. The feelings Manuel had when he was with Jubilee were altogether different, and far more disturbing. Amanda thrust her hands in her pockets, looking for a cigarette to calm her jangling emotions. It'd mean she'd have to wait a bit longer outside, but at least then she could keep an eye on what was going on.
***
Jubilee reached down and gripped Manny's hand as they walked up to the house, her expression both nervous and excited. She could feel second thoughts forming in the back of her mind as they walked, now that he wasn't touching her and she had time to think. He was Amanda's boyfriend, even if he said that they had an understanding, what if Amanda didn't see it that way? She and Jubilee were hardly friends afterall. Jubilee wanted Manny but she didn't want to end up alienating everyone in the mansion if Amanda decided to get huffy about it later on.
Nimbly running up the steps to the front door of the mansion she noticed Amanda standing off to the side with a cigarette and glaring at her like she wanted to burn a hole in her head. The second thoughts she'd been having suddenly moved to the fore.
"Um, Manny...I ah, I'll catch you later, okay?" she said suddenly and bolted inside, away from Manny and from Amanda and from feelings that were more complicated then she wanted to admit right now.
Those feelings were obvious to Manuel, and he shrugged as he watched Jubilee run off. "Proud of yourself?" he asked Amanda as he passed her, to head to the kitchen to look for food.
