(no subject)

In which Alison and Alex run into each other in a completely unpremeditated way (really!) and Alison smiles a lot. Sometime in the late afternoon.

Wolves don't always travel in packs // Survival instincts should be listened to // Oooh, darling, listen to what your papa tells you // Run from the devil woman if you know what's good for you

She bent her knees as the blades hit the ramp, wincing a bit at the fact that she had actually nearly wobbled the landing. Being away in Asgard for three months has created a rather big gap in her blading time and since her return she'd been neglecting things at best except for the occasional morning foray out on the jogging paths. She glided up the ramp once more lazily this time, not even trying anything dramatic, slowing herself down and then turning in circles until she stopped in the middle, pondering teaching Miles how to rollerblade before it got too cold outside. He was bound to like that, after all.

Alex headed again for the ramps, wanting to get out of the mansion that now seemed way to small. He's seen Lorna talking to Kylun while going to one of  his classes and he'd turned and gone another way. Now he needed release from the pressure, which only came from skating. Of course, he was somewhat surprised to see the ramps already being used, and by none other then Lorna's room mate. Part of him groaned.  He sighed and pulled up, put one foot on the ground. "Mind some company?"

Alison blinked, returning to reality, and stared at Alex for a moment. Well, well, well. "Nope." She moved to one end of the ramp, giving him room to start the usual warming up. "Been ages since I've given this stuff the right attention," she offered calmly, mind centering on the fact that here was the cause of her roomie's anguish for the past days. The fact that Lorna would promise her to take good care of Miles then rip her to shreds if she did anything permanent to Alex crossed her mine and she smiled briefly, amusement flickering in her eyes. Oh well, he was safe from death, at least.

Alex didn't miss the amusement in Alison's eyes and started skating with a bit of foreboding. He got up so momentum before going up one of the ramp to do a 180 flip. He landed it and skated past Alison, glancing at her out of the corner of his eye. Why wasn't she attacking him?

Still smiling just a bit, Alison resumed some of her own exercises, far more low key than usual. Falling on her head just wouldn’t do and besides, it would be far more fun to stay in one piece and mess up Alex's instead. Just a bit. Lorna had seemed pleased with herself when she'd come back from her date. Then again, Alex would probably take that as a sign of Lorna being over him or never having cared and fall on his head for real himself. Hrm. If it weren't her fault maybe Lorna wouldn't kill her. At least without solid proof.

Frankly, her smile creeped him out and threw him off as he tried a rail grab. But he was concentrating on Alison and not the rail and missed, once again missing that damn trick, and went rolling down the ramp.. He stopped a few feet from Alison and sighed looking up at the sky. "That was embarrassing..."

Alison looked down at him, cocking her head to the side, that same smile still oh so very much in place. Scott would probably be upset if Alex died. But – she hadn't done anything. She was being perfectly nice and polite and just well, being scary at him a bit. That was all. And besides, Lorna was getting her own hits in just fine by herself, like a big girl. That had been a really nice date, clearly - f you didn't know well enough to see that Lorna was still miserable, that was. The memory of Lorna's split knuckles surface and the smile grew a little. "You're not concentrating," she offered, still not having budged an inch. She blinked and hummed a few bars. Oooh, that sounded nice. She needed lyrics now.

"No really, ya think?" He didn't really mean to sound cross but she was really unnerving him. He stood up and ran a few steps to gather up his board. He really wasn't able to take this much more so instead of going back to his tricks, Alex turned to her, his board under his arm. "you have something you want to say don't you?"

Oh, he was so not getting off that easy. "Me? Why would I want to say anything?" she blinked, head still tilted to the side, moving her feet just a bit as she rolled the blades in place. Hrm. Something about wolves. And devil women. That was a song meant to be written, especially when one was in a predatory mood. The smile brightened a bit. This was fun.

Glaring at Alison, he put his skate board on the ground and continued his skating, trying to stay away from her. But one turn on the top of the ramp to do a 360 and he was going right past her again. he glanced over his shoulder at her and forgot to compensate for the bottom of the ramp and his wheels his, flipping him off the board. Alex landed on his ass, groaning.

And to think she wasn't even lifting a finger. "Still not concentrating," she opined, shaking her head a bit. Clearly she was doing a lovely job of projecting psychotic maniac at him while still keeping her expression entirely innocent. Continuous smiling did help there too. "Need help?" she asked innocently, not at all thinking of helping him along off the ramp at high speed or any other kind of help. Nope sir. Not one bit. At least Lorna was eating now, without needing supervision, even if it was only to keep Alison from sending her to Hank.

He glared at her as he stood up, rubbing his butt a bit. " Yeah you can stop standing there smiling like your trying very hard not to say something malicious before I crash from another trick." Alex crossed his arms across his chest. "I know you want too."

Both eyebrows went up at that and Alison's lips quirked. "Malicious? Naw." It would be too easy, that. And no fun at all. Besides, there were other people who did well with malicious in the mansion, she didn't need to as well. Maybe that was why she was just contenting herself with smiling a lot.

"Then what do you want? besides standing there smiling at me?" Alex was not about to start skating again till she stopped smiling and he really didn't want to go back to the house. He'd come out here to get away from his problems and he was not appreciating having them thrown back in his face, especially in just a smile.

"Mmm. World peace? No more discrimination against anyone? Miles being able to grow up without hiding his entire life?" Hey. He'd asked. "For my roomie to stop moping like the world has ended and actually go back to being a human being again instead of some pod person just pretending that it's all okay?" She blinked, the smile never budging. "Hrm. Did I say that out loud?"

Rolling his eyes, Alex sighed. "I knew it, I knew this was going to have something to do with that." He literally spat the last word. "She's moping? Really? Couldn't tell Tuesday night, she sure seemed happy to me."

Oooh! Jealous! Ha. "Mmm. Yeah, you live with her, see her a freakish amount of time every day. I'm sure you'd know better. Not biased at all, nope. You're probably right. She's just pretending the rest of the time when you can't see her. And not when you do. Ayup." She beamed at him. Boys were stupid. Alison was seriously tempted to pick up one of those 'boys are stupid, throw rocks at them' t-shirts she'd seen at the mall, a few days ago. Just for moments like these.

His expression faltered for a moment when he heard Lorna was miserable all the time, but only for a moment. "And what am I supposed to do? She was the one who wanted time away from one another? Though I thought it was so we could try again..." Alex almost regretted saying it and bit his lip, though he couldn't take it back.

A few more bars came to mind, Alison humming them for a heartbeat. Oooh, darling, listen to what your papa tells you // Run from the devil woman if you know what's good for you. "We're talking about the same person, here, right?" She did another 180, the cheerful expression never fading. "The Original Miss Insecure, always giving everyone as much room as possible to stay away from her because they couldn't possibly really like her in the first place? Who thinks as soon as you say she's right that it's over and she's ruined it all?" She winked at him. "Just asking. You know, making sure and all."

"What was I supposed to do Alison!?" Saying Alex was getting frustrated with Alison was an understatement. "You haven't exactly answered that yet! I don't think she was prepared for me to disagree with her and I do agree we need some time apart. But for Christ sake I love her, I know she insecure and has issues and..." his voice grew quieter as he realised what was coming off his tongue. "and I want us to try again. It hurts to watch her do it with some else instead..."

The smile faded and Alison instead just looked at him soberly for a while. "I think, Alex, that now is likely the very worse time of all for you to make any assumptions about what Lorna might or might not be doing. From what I understood, not talking is what led to all of this in the first palce, no?" She sighed a bit, shaking her head. "Disagreeing with her might have been the very best thing for you to do. And if being apart hurts the both of you so much, then why not try to work together?" She rolled back a bit, not pushing the point, quite literally. "Think about it. Is all."

Alex nodded, his gaze set on his feet. In fact He let his legs give out from under him and he sat down in a heap, his head in his hands. "But what if now she doesn't want too...? What if it's too screwed up for its own good?" He asked softly, more to himself then to Alison.

"Would you rather spend the rest of your life knowing you didn't give it everything you had, no matter what the answer to that is?" The words floated in the air as she left, the only other sound that of the wheels of her rollerblades on the path that led back to the mansion.
