Nathan and Moira, Friday night

Late on Friday night, Nathan defiantly sneaks back into Moira's bedroom. She's very happy to see him. They're both struggling with nerves, but manage to banter their way more or less out of them. The cuddling probably helps, too.

He felt like he ought to be reciting 'The Night Before Christmas', the castle was that quiet. Carefully to minimize the click of his cane on the floor, Nathan limped determinedly in the direction of a certain door, leaving his mind wide-open so that he would pick up on anyone headed in his direction well before they arrived. He didn't want to get caught, after all, and as quiet as it was, there were a few people still moving around.

Snickering silently as he reached the door, he opened it and stepped in, grinning at Moira where she was sitting up in bed, reading. #I have,# he sent gleefully, #successfully managed to elude all of your relatives. As far as everyone else is concerned I'm sound asleep down the hall. So as long as I'm out of here before dawn, no one will know we actually spent the night before our wedding together.#

Moira didn't jump, just sat there blinking at him. There had been a whole lot of "sneaky" on the link that evening, she really shouldn't be surprised. Unable to sleep, too many jitters and fading anger over spending time with her not so beloved grandmother were keeping her awake when she wanted to sleep.

Instead, she just raised an eyebrow slightly and grinned a little. #Yer cheatin',# she sent back, putting the book down and crossing her hands over her stomach as she studied him. #Nay supposed ta see each other 'til th' actual ceremony. Grandmother Kinross would skin ye alive.#

#Hence the sneakiness,# Nathan said, setting his cane carefully aside and getting into bed with her. She shifted over to lean against him, immediately, and he put her arms around her, grinning. #Of course, we have to be very, very quiet. And I may have to be very slightly unethical. I caught her thinking she was going to take a stroll down the hall sometime in the next few hours just to 'check' on you.#

Moira rolled her eyes as she settled in next to him, book already forgotten. #Witch,# she sent, a hint of venom seeping into her thoughts. #Never liked th' woman, only reason she's here is because I know me Da would have wanted her here. So much for 'royalty' getting' ta do wha' they want.#

#Shh,# Nathan sent back soothingly, rubbing her back. #She's here, and the one thing she won't do is make any kind of scene tomorrow. I know that doesn't help with her having been a bitch today, but her sense of propriety will work in our favor when it comes to the actual wedding.#

#Thankfully. Are ye nervous? I am. I shouldnae be, I've done this before. Tell me yer nervous, it'll make me feel better.#

#I'm nervous,# Nathan said truthfully. #And I know, neither of us should be... but really, I think the problem might be that we're both generally private people. What we're about to do tomorrow is very public.# He glanced down at her, smiling. #It'll be fun, though. You just watch.#

#I know, lookin' forward to it, even if I have ta stand in front o' everyone. Yer right, we're bot' verra private people--some more than others.# Moira poked him gently in the ribs.

His smile turned mischievous. #Are you going to poke me tomorrow if I get tongue-tied by your beauty and forget my vows? Because a photographic memory is no match for some things, sadly...# He kissed the top of her head.

#O' course I will, ye big sap. I'll try nay ta hum or do anythin' distractin' on th' link. Much.# The look she gave him turned a little wicked. #Maybe.#

#Evil woman. If I burst out laughing I'm blaming it all on you.# Nathan reached out with a flicker of telekinesis to turn out the light, shifting a bit awkwardly on the bed. Moira let him get comfortable before she resettled herself beside him. #Going to be a hell of a day,# he sent, smiling up into the dimness.

#Luckily in the good way an' nay in th' normal hell o' a day we get,# she commented, trying to get comfortable. Baby was starting to get in the way and soon enough, she'd forget what sleeping on her stomach felt like. #Nay invasions allowed.#

#No one would dare. We're going to have the makings of a small army here tomorrow.# He snickered. #And we can't forget the X-Men and all my mercenary friends, too...#
