Domino and Haroun, at the reception

Barbs across the buffet table. These two just don't like each other at all.

Moira had actually managed to pick remarkably pretty bridesmaid dresses, Domino reflected, making her way up to the buffet. Wouldn't have been something she'd have picked of her own accord, but she'd received a number of admiring looks and some open drooling, all of which was doing marvelous things to soothe her still-ruffled feathers.

She grinned wickedly at the person who just happened to be there, right at the end of the line. "You ditched me," she pouted at Haroun. "You're delinquent in your usherly duties, you know."

Haroun gritted his teeth. "It was the kindest thing I could think of to do given the circumstances." he said as politely as he could force himself. "I can live with being delinquent. So ... how many drinks is that for you today, Domino? I think I lost count at a dozen."

"Don't exaggerate, Haroun. This would be number three. Although," Domino said, after taking another sip of it, "check back with me in a few hours and I may be getting closer to that dozen."

Haroun gritted his teeth again. At this rate, he was going to rip through a molar or two by the time came for retire for the evening. "So glad you're enjoying yourself. It was a lovely ceremony, all things considered." he said politely. "A shame Mr Wisdom decided that becoming the White King was a viable career move." he said cattily. "He would have enjoyed it, don't you think?"

"Oh, quite a pity," Domino said wisely. "If he'd been here, I wouldn't be harassing you, now, would I?" She smiled brightly at him.

Haroun smirked. "A consumation devoutly to be wished." he quoted badly. "Go bother someone else, Domino."

"Don't give yourself too much credit, Haroun." She gestured at the buffet. "Once we both get something to eat, you'll be free of me. I don't intend to go back and sit down until the line's gone just because you're being priggish."

Haroun death-glared at the people in front of him in line. Seems the line was being held up by two little old Scottish ladies, happily gossiping away in their mishmash of Scot Gaelic and English. "If they don't hurry up I will flip out and kill people. I'll start with them and then come back for you."

Domino made a sorrowful face at him. "~Blood at the wedding reception,~" she said in perfect Arabic. "~What a terrible thing.~"

Haroun ground his teeth again. ~Don't sully the language by speaking it.~ he warned her. ~Or, at the very least, try to be a decent woman for _once_ in your life?~

"I'm being very decent, thank you very much," Domino said, taking another sip of her drink, her eyes roaming the confines of the tent, studying her surroundings. Interesting mix of people this wedding had. "I haven't propositioned anyone, and half of Moira's relatives have had several times the amount of alcohol I've consumed."

~The day's still young. I have no doubt you'll eventually wind up with that pretty dress in a puddle somewhere. You are who you are.~ he said, still in Arabic. ~Just try to make sure nobody dies this time, OK Mata Hari?~

"You like my dress?" Domino beamed at him. "That's really sweet, Haroun. Thank you." Her impression of 'cute and flattered' was so effective that an old man heading back with a full plate of food paused to add his compliments. Domino blushed, quite deliberately, and produced a giggle at the appropriate moment.

~If this wasn't a wedding I would kill you.~ he hissed. "You're not nearly as funny as you think you are." he continued in English. "I'm amazed that it's even stayed on for as long as it has."

"Look... truce?" Domino offered as the old man moved on. "Once we get our food, I'll go find something else to do... and I promised Moira I'd behave, by the way, do you really think I'd get on the bad side of the pregnant Scotswoman? We can do the obligatory dance when that starts, and after that, we can proceed to ignore each other's existence for the rest of the night."

"Only for the rest of the night? I was holding out for all eternity." he said nastily. "I'll do my duty, have no fear. But that's all it is. Duty. I haven't forgotten, and I'm not likely to ever forgive."

There were any number of things she could have said to that, given that she was getting really tired of him blaming her for his friend's suicide. But she also wasn't likely to convince him otherwise, now or ever, and an argument at the reception was not on. She at least could restrain herself. "I gather there's haggis," she said brightly. "Local contribution... Lorna was very skeptical."

"That's nice. I can't have any of it." he commented as he studied the buffet offerings. "But it does like they have some nice well-done beef over there. I think I'll give that a try."

"I think Lorna deserves all kinds of credit for pulling this together this fast, don't you?" See, she could do small talk. "I'm terribly impressed. And the locals seem to be in culinary shock."

"She had a good bit of help, but yes, this is impressive." he said, eyeing the food once again. Ah, good! Hummus! He would have to go over and kiss her. Preferably at a moment to cause maximum embarrassment. And when Alison wouldn't laser him for his pains. Again. "An intriguing blend of local favorites and world cuisine."

Domino helped herself to some hummus as Haroun moved on. "Alison's singing was lovely," she said, continuing to play the game. The other guests around them were relaxing considerably now that there was no more hissing or insulting going on. "She sounded Scottish herself. Had the accent down and everything."

"Not really my thing, but I guess she did well." he said honestly, and then instantly regretted it. He snagged a couple more choice items from the buffet line, and then queued up to get something to drink. Right about now, spirituality be damned, he wanted a drink. Preferably several, if he was going to have to spend more time with Domino. He'd always heard about chemical oblivion, and right about now seemed like a good time to start trying to explore it.
