Nick and Catsey go to Pride
Backdated to 6/28 The odd friends get ready to head to Pride, and discuss acceptance, the future, and driving.
Nicholas Gleason sat at the bus stop letting his foot bounce up and down nervously. Although he had promised Jay that he would venture out of the mansion for the first time since his arrival, it was still difficult for him to muster up enough strength to make the walk down the driveway and make his entrance into the "real world" once again. There were only two things that kept him at the bus stop, the thought of returning to Pride, a festival that had meant so much to both himself and his family, and the fact that he would not be making the journey alone. Speaking of going alone, Nick quickly glanced down at his watch, trying to guess exactly when his friend would join him in his trek.
The purple cat bounded up to the bus stop a few moments later and shifted into girlform. Catseye still hadn't gotten her collar fixed so she was quite naked when she shifted, but in anticipation of this fact, and not wanting to scare or offend anyone today since going to the parade was quite important to her, she'd been carrying clothes with her tail. "Catseye is sorry she is late!" At least the bus hadn't come yet. "Catseye only remembered about clothes when she was already running and then she had to go back to the BigHouse and then come back again. Is Nicholas excited about going to the parade?" she asked with a wide smile at Nick, throwing a tank top over her head and shimmying into a flower-print skirt.
"I... uh... I... uh..." Nick kept shifting his attention between Catseye and the ground as she threw on her clothing, his face turning a very bright shade of red in the process. "Wait, what were we..." He let out a nervous giggle that was reminiscent of a junior high girl waiting to be asked to dance. When he finally did find his voice, it squeaked slightly as he talked. "Yes, Nicholas is excited to go to the parade...." among other things... "is Catseye?"
"Yes, Catseye is veryvery excited! Catseye has watched the parade before with BigBrother but never gone to walk in the parade with her friends before." She sat on the bench next to Nick and fumbled with shoes, which were actually sandals with straps that confused her. "Is Nick going because he is a gay boy like Catseye's friend Jay and likes playing bedgames with boys instead of girls?" she inquired innocently. The catgirl had no feelings of judgment whatsoever on anyone's sexual preference- she still didn't even understand the point of sex at the mansion anyway, since no one seemed to do it for its natural purpose, procreation- so her question was asked purely for conversational purposes.
Nick watched as Catseye fumbled with her shoes, as he was still trying to hide his embarrassment from a few moments earlier. "No, no I'm not gay boy I..." How could he explain it in terms that Catseye could understand. "I support gay boys to be treated just like everyone else is." He smiled with a slight chuckle towards his friend. "Are you sure you don't need any help with those shoes?"
Catseye put her feet in Nick's lap immediately. "Catseye needs help yesyesyes! Catseye wants gay boys to be treated just like everyone else is too," she said with a nod. "Catseye is learning that humans are not things and not how they look or what they do, and Catseye thinks this means they should not be hurt or yelled at just because they like playing bedgames with other boys because they are not just what they do in bedgames, they are special in lots of ways and people should like them because of how they are special not because of their bedgames!"
The boy slowly reached down and grabbed the sandals, laughing at himself at the brashness of the girl. It was very soothing to be around her. "But unfortunately for us, most people do judge others for how they look or what they say. It isn't right, but it happens. I'm just afraid that it always will." With another warm smile flashed at the purple-haired girl, he leaned forward and picked up the other sandal, quickly beginning to place it on her free foot. "You know, I think if the rest of the world thought the way you did Catseye, we might be much better off." It wasn't just true about gay pride, Nick wished a lot of the world could look at things the way Catseye did.
The catgirl shook her head ruefully. "Catseye did not think this way always. At first Catseye thought it was easier to think people were what they looked like or one thing that they did." Well, she still thought that way, actually. It was easier to think of people in terms of what they did or what they looked like. It just wasn't nice. "But Mister Beaubier made Catseye understand that it is bad to think people are only one thing." She frowned and stared down at her feet in Nick's lap, wishing Jean-Paul would get better faster so she could visit him- she missed him a lot and wanted to tell him how she understood now about what he'd told her. "Catseye does not like taking the bus," she grumbled, changing the topic to avoid thinking about Jean-Paul. "Catseye wishes she could drive to the parade! Soon Catseye will have her permit and then Catseye can take Nick for rides in the car instead of on the bus!" She grinned at Nick. "Does Nick like putting his head out the window with his tongue out?"
Nick almost choked on his own laugh. "I can't say that I've tried that one." A devilish smile grew across his face as his mind slowly began to drift. "But you know, that actually could be a lot of fun." Nick paused for a second as another image quickly began to form inside of his head. "Wait a second Catseye, you will be taking driving lessons first right?" He quickly pushed an eyebrow up for a second. "And you will be using thumbs when you drive too?" The thought of himself holding on for dear life as a purple cat drove down the road was permanently implanted in his brain. He didn't know if it was funnier or utterly terrifying.
She nodded emphatically. "Catseye already has had manymany lessons! Soon Catseye will have her permit! Catseye is a veryvery good driver. And yes Catseye uses thumbs but not shoes. Catseye thinks it would be a lot of fun for Nick and Catseye to go driving together," she grinned, removing her feet from Nick's lap and jumping up off the bench as she spotted the bus in the distance. "Catseye promises she will not go too fast or take the car hunting."
"Thanks, but I think at least for a while, I'll keep to my feet instead of a car." Nick was doing much better at controlling his emotions. He hadn't had a near incident since his roommate had scared him on the first day of school, but he still was afraid of turning a driver's ed car into the Flintstone-mobile by his legs suddenly shooting through the bottom during a transportation. "But if you promise you use thumbs, I'll go on a ride with you... after you get your permit." Nick flashed another smile as he stood up, waiting for the bus to stop.
"Catseye is going to get her permit veryverysoon!" she assured her friend, giving him a playful shove. "And then Catseye will take Nick driving and watch Nick put his head out the window!"
