BoH: Risman's Angel
In the chaos that ensues, Angel tries to protect the crowd. But she finds herself looking down the barrel of the leader of the Purifiers.
"Professor!" Angel's startled cry was drowned out by the shouts and cries around her as the crowd surged to their feet. Her fellow classmates were also moving and it took her a second to really get her bearings. People who looked familiar from X-Men files were suddenly filling the room and several were going towards the panicked crowd. Ripping off her graduation robes, she braced her fingers against her mouth and blew a sharp whistle.
Heads of people around her whipped around and Angel gestured towards the emergency fire door to their right. "Everyone, out!" she said, voice raised and firm. In the back of the room, she spotted Paul giving her a signal - he was helping with the crowd back there. "Be calm, it'll be all right but you have to move now!"
Grateful to be given guidance, they startled hurrying towards the fire doors as Angel played sheep dog to their herd. She put a hand on the back of a woman to urge her along, smiling reassuringly as the sounds of fighting and god only knew what else rose from behind them.
Pushing his way through the humans in the crowd, Risman noticed there was a contingent heading for the fire exit door near the front of the auditorium. "Stop them! Don't let the devil spawn escape!" The preacher drew his shotgun and pumped a round into the chamber before shooting it into the air.
The sound of the gunshot caused even more panic to run through the crowds and Angel soon had her hands full. Keeping one eye on the crazy with the gun, she tried to calm the people running for the door. "Everyone behind me," she snapped, stepping in front of the mass of the people, "and keep going out."
Aware of the close spaces, she didn't attempt a full flare up but instead clenched her fist and concentrated on sending a heat wave in the direction of the man heading towards them. It was nothing that would harm him or those around him but it was a clear warning: Stay back.
Risman spotted the redhead with sparks flying off her amber locks immediately and turned toward her. As he got closer he continued to get warmer, a sure sign of this creature's alliance with the devil. "Get thee behind me Satan!" he bellowed at the thing that looked like a girl before leveling the shotgun at her and pulling the trigger with a deafening boom.
"Jesus Christ!" Angel moved quickly, knocking down the person behind her, and the motion saved them both as the shot went high. Scrambling to her feet, she grabbed the guy and shoved him towards the door. There was a clear space around her now as no one wanted to come near the guy shooting at her. She had to keep her attention on herself and not the people trying to escape. "You want me? Come on then!"
For a second, she was completely embroiled in flames but they vanished in the next breath. She wanted his attention but couldn't keep that up for long or else risk setting everything else on fire, too.
"Devil-child, your redemption is at hand!" he fired again, watching the slug melt as it got nearer to her. Moving quickly, the preacher closed the distance between himself and the demon while readjusting his grip on the shotgun in order to use it like a club. "Do not fight the divine light of the Lord!" With a grunt, the older man swung for all he was worth.
Instinct told her she was not going to be able to move in time and Angel reacted without thinking. Blue flame roiled around her again as she slapped a hand up to catch the gun, the metal melting as it hit the thick shield that protected her from the impact. But her attacker had still been moving forward, even as she tried to jerk back and away from him, the smooth mask of fire on her face rippling as she grimaced.
Risman screamed as the gun instantly superheated and discharged it's rounds into the blocked chamber- causing the barrel to explode. Shrapnel slammed and slashed into his body as he continued to fall forward into the blue flames. "Lord protect m-" was all he got out before his face brushed against the barrier of plasmatic heat.
The explosion rocked Angel back, making the time the man had been in contact with her fire brief as she stumbled backwards, cutting the flame off with but a thought.
It took a moment for the pain to register in his facial tissue and then it was gone as quickly as it had come. All he knew was that something had happened to his face- something awful. He screamed and ran back the way he had come in clutching the bloody mass that was the right side of his once handsome face. "Succubus whore!" he shouted back at his attacker as he disappeared into the melee.
Angel tried to go after him, guilt bubbling under the surface, to not only get someone to help with the wounds she'd seen briefly but because, even injured, he was still probably a threat. But she was unable to push her way through the riled up crowd and soon lost sight of him.
She considered trying to work her way out of the room to keep searching but a short scream from her left made her realize that she was needed there. Running after him was impossible and there were new issues cropping up even as she turned around.
