Log: Kurt and Bobby
Kurt finds Bobby on his way to search for Nick again, and asks to come along. Bobby does his best to avoid the uncomfortableness.
Kurt had been looking for Bobby, knowing the younger man had involved himself in the search for Nick. He only had to check a few places before he struck lucky.
"Hello, Iceman", he said from the kitchen door before stepping inside. "Making lunch?"
As Bobby spun around, he had to pull the sandwich already shoved in his mouth out to stop himself from mumbling. Letting out a sputter of a cough, he squinted before being able to speak. "Yeah, the stuff around here's cheaper than out in Salem, so I usually take lunch with me." It was hard for him to face Kurt when there was still no update on the search, but he had to remain strong, show signs of hope no matter how bleak things seemed. "So what's up?"
"I was hoping to ask... if I could go with you today." It might not have been what he'd started out intending to ask, but... Bobby would have brought any news to him first. "If you were intending to go looking for Nick, that is."
Bobby let out a small smile across his face. "Of course you can come." How was he going to tell a father he couldn't come on a search for his son. That would be a horrible punishment. "As long as you don't bring any of that rank smelling German food with us."
"There is nothing wrong with my food", Kurt countered, seizing on the joke. "But I promise. I am not hungry just now anyway. Perhaps two sets of eyes will have more luck than either of us has had alone."
"Sounds like a plan," Bobby added as he dropped the last sandwich into the paper bag at the end of the counter before folding over the top and beginning to pace towards the door, tapping Nightcrawler's arm in the process. "Have you heard any recent news on your front of the search?" He didn't want to turn around to see the response on Kurt's face. At least that way he could hope that there was some form of hope on the man's face.
"No", was the soft response. "Not yet. I have even had my sisters try to help, Amanda with a location spell, Jimaine with her scrying... but nothing. I am thinking of hiring a real investigator."
Bobby pulled open the front door to the mansion. "What, my years of detective skills playing Clue isn't enough of a real investigator for ya?" He had always covered up his uncomfortableness with jokes. Even in light of certain circumstances, that wasn't going to change. "But to tell you my honest opinion, that might not be a bad idea. I haven't been able to dig up much myself. Not even a Professor Plum to look into."
Kurt stepped out after him. "It all happened so fast. If I did not know he was not a teleporter... but there must be some kind of clue we are missing. He did not just vanish."
"But with the Reavers and Purifers there, I'm don't know if we'll ever be sure what happened." Bobby quickly pulled his head up, not wanting his negativity to spread to Kurt. "Not that I'm going to stop trying..."
"It took me nearly twenty years to find my sister again", Kurt said simply. "But I did find her. I will never give up."
Bobby smiled. The hopefulness of the blue guy always had been infectious. "I just hope it doesn't take us that long to find Nick," he added with a tap of the shoulder before turning back to the field. "So we driving or 'porting big guy?"
"Driving, I think", he decided. "'Porting means possibly missing things in between the places we go."
"See these are the times when someone who has actual experience as opposed to just watching a lot of CSI may be beneficial." Turning toward the garage, Bobby lets out a small sigh. "I will find out what happened to him Kurt. I owe you that much."
"There is no debt here, my friend", he said quietly, following Bobby. "Unless it is mine. I know how much you have done since he disappeared."
"Since I've been back, I've felt this strong connection to the kids though. I know it's irrational or whatever, but it feels like I need to take them all under my wing and make sure they're alright." He shrugged off the feeling, but to be honest, Nick's disappearance was hitting him hard as well.
"I remember when you were one of the kids", Kurt told him dryly. "And now here you are married and feeling overly responsible like the rest of us. Perhaps it will be your turn for fatherhood next, hm?"
"That would require my wife and I to be on the same continent my friend", Bobby added as he pulled the door open the the garage. "That and I think I still have some growing up to do."
"The same could be said for most people. I do not think anyone is ever completely finished growing up."
"Well, we can always hope that I never do. I can't see myself holding a diaper box for a long time to be honest." With another pat to his comrade, he continued. "But you Kurt. I think you've been a father without a son for a long time." He added in a quick wink. "And we're going to get that son back."
"Yes, we are", he replied, forcing his voice to firmness. "And then you must warn me if I start to become too protective."
"You overprotective? Never!" Was all Bobby could force out with a quick wink as the two approached the side of the vehicle. "I'll drive big blue. You've always had better eyes for seeing details."
"And I do not have a license", Kurt admitted easily. "Cars rather scare me."
"Then I'll keep it under 90," Bobby said with a wink as he slid in the door, ready for another long day of searching.
