Log: Sarah and Yvette, Saturday afternoon at the BBQ

After her talk with Callie, Sarah runs into Yvette and has a good heart to heart talk with her best friend.

Sarah was having a good time at the barbeque, there were so many people out and about and it was a lovely day, befitting of the last big to-do before the fall started. As she walked through the crowd she spied a familiar face in Yvette and headed over towards her friend.

"Hey Yvette!" She waved as she drew closer, standing next to hear and putting her hands behind her back. "It's a pretty good turn out today, wouldn't you say?"

"Yes, very much so. I was hoping it would be so." Yvette's blue eyes were glimmering as brightly as the swimming pool's water, although the small Albanian was taking advantage of the shade - her skin's lack of pores meant she had a tendency to overheat. "Are you enjoying things?"

The shade was a great place to be on such a warm day, and Sarah edged her way towards the cooler area next to Yvette. "I am, thank you, it's fun." She watched more people pass by, so many people in bathing suits and swimwear and the like. It made her feel a little self conscious, in her plain old shorts and t-shirt, though Sarah was pretty sure she couldn't wear anything like that half as well as some of her fellow females at the party. "How about you, are you having a good time?"

"A party is always a good time. Even if it is for the end of summer." Yvette wouldn't miss the heat, but the vacation time was always good. "Are you all set for the start of school?"

Sarah nodded at that, still looking down at her cloths. "It is, even though it means back to school and all that." She wouldn't miss the heat either, really, but summer vacation would sorely be missed and mourned for in the weeks to come. "I think I am, trying to be anyway. Picked up some supplies, have some new clothes... say, do you think these look ok, Yvette? I mean..." She wasn't sure how to put it, and had never really sought out advice on her appearance that much, other than with Jessie when they were younger and trying to buck their parents' attempts to make them dress alike. "Do I look ok, do you think?"

Yvette blinked, not expecting the sudden question. "I think you look very nice," she said. "Cool and comfortable. You are the very pretty girl, Sarah." Her words were sincere; Yvette envied her friend her sleek black hair and smooth skin. "Why do you ask?"

She managed a small smile for her friend but still didn't feel all that confident. "Thank you. I dunno, I just..." Sarah shrugged, looking around at some of the other girls. "Some of the other girls are just so pretty, you know?" Her eyes might've been resting on Callie as she said that part aloud, then scanned the rest of the crowd. "Like, so pretty that you just want to, I don't know, hang around them all the time. I don't think people think of me like that though." It was hard to explain, she hoped she didn't sound crazy to her friend.

It was an odd way of phrasing it. "You mean, you don't think boys find you pretty?" Yvette asked. "I do not think that would be a problem for you if there were more than two boys in the school. You are just as pretty as any of the other girls."

"I don't think that anybody does, really, but I've never told anyone they were pretty either." She shrugged. "Or handsome, I guess, for guys." she added. Sarah smiled at Yvette. "Thank you, Yvette. It's just confusing, this whole attraction thing, you know?" She didn't really know herself, truth be told, and she was trying her best to wrap her own head around things.

Yvette chuckled a little. "Oh, I know. You are talking to the Queen of the Unrequited Crush, yes?" She reached over and patted Sarah's arm. "It is important, I think, to listen to what your heart is saying. If you like someone, do not try to logic yourself out of it - you cannot control attractings."

"Aww, really?" Sarah felt a little bad about rambling on about her own confusion and talking Yvette's ear off. "Is everything ok?" She nodded at the last words, that seemed to make the most sense. "I think you're right, I'm just having trouble understanding what's an attraction, I think. Though I might have an idea now, kinda." Her interactions with Callie, both at Yvette's party and lately, she'd been wondering what that had meant, but maybe she had a crush.

"Oh, I am fine - it is something I am very used to." Yvette laughed a little, even though her gaze had drifted over to Kyle and Dori playing around by the pool. "Things are different for me. But for you, it will be easier, I think. Once you find someone, I do not think they will overlook you. You are, how they say? Quite the catch?"

This time it was Sarah patting Yvette on the arm gently. "Aww, Yvette. You're too sweet. I don't know about that, but thanks for saying so, just the same." She reached over and gave her friend a gentle hug. "You're a great friend, you know that? And you're quite the catch yourself, young lady." She was easily the sweetest girl she knew and an awesome friend.

"Perhaps one day my knight in the shining armour will come," Yvette acknowledged, and then giggled. "Especially since he will need the armour to avoid being spiked to death, yes?"

Sarah giggled along with her friend. "I'm sure he will, yes. And he'll have to be tough and awesome and handsome to be able to win your hand, Lady Yvette!" She smiled, then squeezed her friend's hand again. "Thanks for listening to me ramble on, milady."

"You are my friend," Yvette said simply. "Of course I will listen. To anything you have to say." There was a commotion over by the barbeque area, with the words 'ice cream' featuring. "And now, I think it is time for dessert, yes?"

That was the sign of a true friend right there, and Sarah was so glad that she could count Yvette as one of the very best ones of hers. Her ears piqued at the sound of ice cream as well so she nodded vigourously. "Oh yes, most definitely!"
