X-Men Mission: Avengers vs X-Men: Nordic Weirdness 1
Marie-Ange, Amanda, Tandy, and Topaz head out with the SWORD team and land at the site of the portal
The Quinjet ferrying them to the scene was full of SHIELD and SWORD specialists, tinkering with equipment or communications gear, surreptitiously trying to make sense of the quartet they'd detoured to pick up. The jet had already bounced through a storm front, urgency stopping them from any kind of additional delay and the chop had them holding on to their seats for what seemed like an age before the jet started to slow and descend. The VTOL hissed as they dropped down and finally settled on the landing gears. The back ramp opened and the specialists began to move, quickly unloading gear to what seemed to be a makeshift camp.
"All right people, you have ten minutes. I want full spectrum analysis in twenty." Agent Abigail Brand strode though the preparations, issuing her commands in a crisp, authoritative tone. Her green hair was tightly tied back and covered by a black cap with the SWORD insignia and she wore sunglasses, hiding the emerald green eyes. Coupled with the black SWORD uniform, the effect was rather stormtrooper-ish - something she was very much aware of and used to best effect. "I'll have a word with our 'consultants'."
She re-entered the Quinjet and approached the Xavier's people where they were in the process of unbuckling themselves. Her face was hard to read behind the aviator sunglasses, but there was a certain twist to her mouth that expressed her general disapproval with the situation. "We're here. Is there any equipment you need set up? Otherwise it would be best if you stay out of the way until we're ready."
Marie-Ange was already out of her seat and smoothing down her coat. "Our equipment is self-contained, Agent. So it would be best if my team were on hand immediately to investigate. Of course, you realize several of our investigative methods could be easily disrupted by your personnel stomping through ley lines or disrupting ectoradient pathways unawares." Magic has its own technobabble. Marie-Ange could picture the expression that Amanda - or Topaz - was probably suppressing. "We will certainly share anything we find of value."
Topaz was trying to find a way to balance "hiding behind Tandy" with "I'm an adult and I absolutely belong here." She still wasn't sure why she had volunteered for this, except maybe because Marie-Ange thought things like ectoradient pathways existed. She sighed, squaring her shoulders and trying to look as tall as she was capable of.
Agent Brand was exactly how Tandy remembered her the last time they saw each other. It was different this time even if Tandy resisted the urge to touch her shoulder where Dweller's mark lived. Tandy knew a bit about magic having taken classes from Amanda and her time in Asgard but she was just assuming she was here for backup.
Amanda was only just managing to keep her expression neutral as she listened to Marie-Ange's techno-babble. "I'm sure Director Fury would prefer we look into this as fast as we can," she said briefly, trying to keep a low profile but unable to resist adding her own piece. She nudged Topaz and Tandy. "Dagger, we'll need your Asgardian knowledge for this - any runes or markings are all yours. T-- Padawan, you and I are probably going to have to close this thing, if we can." She looked to Marie-Ange. "We good, boss?"
"Oui, we are good." Marie-Ange confirmed, as she pulled an older looking Polaroid camera out of a duffle bag slung over her shoulder. "I have silver-backed film for the radiant aura photography." The camera had a digital video camera and recorder built in, courtesy X-Force's technical set. "And your all-purpose exorcism kit." She patted the bag. It had an all-purpose everything kit in it, including but not limited to a quick and dirty exorcism. "Let us go forth and do everyone's dirty work for them."
"Civilians," Brand muttered under her breath. "Very well, since you're all so keen to throw yourselves at the mysterious evil-causing portal, be my guests," she continued with a hard smile. "I will, of course, escort you. For your protection."
As they disembarked the Quinjet, Brand in the lead, she turned to examine Topaz and Tandy. "I know you two, don't I? Not from Aitken... New York, wasn't it? During the demon invasion?" It was hard to tell behind her sunglasses, but she gave the impression she knew fully well where and when she'd seen them last. "Of course, you were much... younger then."
Topaz wasn't sure if it was the mention of the demon invasion or just the smug superiority she could practically see rolling off Brand that set her on edge. But when Brand called her and Tandy out she gritted her teeth and said, without much thought, "Yeah? I don't remember, guess you didn't make much of an impression."
Tandy nodded, "Yes." She gave Brand a little smile, "I also don't remember much of the incident." Half truth.
"Perhaps we skip the class reunion for after, yes? We can all reminisce about how much we liked each other over drinks once we have resolved the situation with the portal." Marie-Ange said. "Dagger, I will take point with you while you identify the runes, as Daytripper suggested." She slid a few cards out of a sleeve. "I have our backup all ready."
