X-Men Mission: Agents of SHIELD - Part 7

Having reached the control room, Dominion and Psylocke hold off the guards while Shadowcat and Agent Fitz (via earpiece) hack the systems.

The AIM control room was large and appropriately advanced. Outside of the Danger Room, Kane had never seen anything like it. An alarm flared on the board and they quickly traced it. It was the holding area that the other team had targeted, which meant that troops were being mobilized. All across the readout of the facility, areas were starting to flip to red as automated defense began to come online.

"Shit, the cryo prison had some sort of secondary defenses. I'm going to warn the team. Kitty, can you shut the defense down?"

She nodded.

"Yeah, but I'm going to need Fitz to help me so it might take time." She glanced over her shoulder at Betsy, then at Kane. "Can you hold anyone who shows up for a while?" Kitty's hands began racing across the control board as she started to plot out what she needed to do - her mind was racing, trying to focus on shutting the defenses down and not the possibility of attack.

Alarms were deafening. This area of her training had been rudimentary, but Betsy closed her eyes and tried to concentrate on locating any guards — enemies — coming their way and channeling their locations and speed over to Kane. Once she knew which direction the immediate threat was approaching from she reopened her eyes and activated her psychic blade, this time letting it grow longer, into the shape of a shimmering longsword. She shot a questioning glance at Kane, trusting him to settle on the best tactic.

Kane motioned her down the hall, setting her up on the far flank. AIM was converging on the control room, but they hadn't figured out that it had been seized. He positioned Betsy were the two techs were coming from. The security officers would be his problem. He waited silently, a sense of calm descending as his tactical chip nudged his brain like an excited puppy with the spectre of combat approaching.

As the first guard came around the corner, Kane grabbed him by the chest and straight armed him back. With his strength, the man flew back like he'd been hit by a car, smashing into the second guard. Both men went down in a tangle and Kane darted past them to grab the last man. He smashed him into the wall hard enough to crack his helmet in the process of knocking him cold. He backed off and snuck a look back at Betsy. Her techs should be arriving in moments.

Betsy snuck down the hall, keeping her back to the wall and ignoring the mayhem going on in the other direction. She settled herself behind a convenient vent and waited until the two techs had almost passed her before twirling around them, letting her sword make a path through their bodies. One of the conveniences of a weapon that wasn’t truly there was the lack of drag as it cut it's way through the techs, leaving them to fall down like discarded marionettes. Also no unsightly viscera to clean up.

~I’m guessing there will be more. How are we getting on?~ There was an apologetic tone to the question. She didn’t want to disrupt Kitty more than necessary.

~Sssh... Almost there.~ Kitty's brow furrowed. She heard a catch of breath and noticed that Scott was now in. She'd been worried for a moment that the security would hold but she'd managed to break through after a moment's worry.

"The remote uplink is working. Hold on a moment." Fitz' soft Scots burr came over the comlinks. "I think I'm in. This is not the most secure system I've ever seen but it's close. We're going to need some time."

"Great." Kane muttered. At this point, there was no hiding the bodies. ~Psylocke, get ready for the next wave.”

The telepath took a moment to pinpoint the direction troops were approaching from, and passed it to Kane. ~Hold these positions as long as we can, then fall back towards the control room?~ It was phrased as a question but she really could not see another way, not with the numbers they would be facing.

~Yes. Once they can kill the security alerts and internal systems, they won't be able to keep us from breaking back out.~ Kane said, just as the next wave hit. The first one around the corner fired twice, forcing both of them back momentarily. ~Assuming we're not dead. Big assumption. If we die, it's poor training on Cyclops part. Entirely his fault...~

~Hey now, don't blame S-Cyclops.~ A wave of emotion started to flood through at that moment but Kitty shut it down, blushing. She shifted her focus then, a flash of numbers and buttons coming through her mind before she replied a second time. ~Alerts are down. For now.~

Betsy filed Kitty’s emotional outburst under ‘useful information’. That was about all she had time for, anyway - while her blade could take down any opponent without telepathic defenses, it was no defense against the guards’ guns and the hallway offered little cover. She’d managed to take some down by surprise when they first rounded the corner but was now being forced back towards the control room. ~I hope we have a way out because this one isn’t looking too great at the moment?~

~If we can kill the security, they should shut down enough systems that we can fight our way out. Relax Psylocke, we’ve still got a few tricks.~ Kane rushed past her with preternatural natural speed she’d never seen before. He hit the newest squad of guards like a runaway train, scattering them into the sides of the hall or to the floor. The stunned men reached for weapons but were far too slow as the Canadian smashed hammer blows into the backs and sides of helmeted heads, knocking them cold. He picked up one of the weapons, still connected to a heavy cylindrical pack on the guard’s back and pointed it down the hallway. With the touch of the trigger, heavy plumes of dark red plasma washed down the corridor, sending any reinforcements diving for cover as it passed. Kane held down the trigger until the tank went dry, tossing it aside as it did so.

~That should buy us a few minutes.~

Over the comms, Fitz's voice was droning in Kitty’s ear as he spun through the framework of code with her, both of them attacking separate elements of the operating system, trying to compromise it and give them root access.

“I think- there’s a remote communication override. Oh, that’s a silly bit of paranoia for a security program. Ms Pryde, if you would-“ He almost purred the last words over the comms, with the deep satisfaction of having found a bit of bad code to exploit. Whereas he would still need to work around the remote access protocols, Kitty could gain direct access from her position in the control room.

"Consider it my pleasure." She typed in a few lines of code and watched as the program unspooled around her. She heard a low hum as one by one, the security systems began to shut down around them. It might not hold for long but it would be enough. ~Psylocke, anything happening out there?~

~We… Seem to be in the clear for the moment.~ Her mental voice sounded a slight bit shell shocked. ~There are more guards on the way, but it will take them a couple of minutes to get here. That, and they seem to be undecided on whether they wish to do in the first place. Seems that Dominion made an impression. ~She winced as a gunshot reverberated along the walls, followed by a pained scream. ~Their commander is very persuasive though.~

She took a moment to scan the winding corridors for further mental signatures, before mentally tracing out a path for the other two. ~This way seems mostly clear, at least for now.~

"Good." Kane had switched back to the comms. No need to push Betsy further than necessary. “Shadowcat, Psylocke, on me. Let the other team know that we're heading for the evac point. And if AIM and their commander feel the need to stay in our way, well-" He gave Betsy a cold smile. "I can be pretty convincing myself."
