Log: Nathan and Rahne

Rahne snacks. Nathan stops by for a chat. Nothing crucial.

She had already had a perfectly good dinner. Nevertheless, Rahne was curled up in one of the rec rooms with a book, a large glass of milk, and the remaining half-pound of nice, pink deli roast beef. They'd be getting more soon anyway; this fragment had somehow managed to survive to the point where scrupulous hygiene would mean it ought to be eaten or thrown out tomorrow. It wasn't venison, but it would do.

Nathan, passing by the rec room on his way back upstairs, paused, smiling, as he sensed and then saw Rahne curled up in an armchair. "Hey," he said warmly, sticking his head in the door. "What are you reading?"

"Return of the King." She looked up and quirked her mouth slightly when she realized she had just waved a piece of the roast beef at him. "For some reason I wanted to reread the bit where the creepy army of the undead is on the good guys' side."

"Tolkien," Nathan said, coming in and sitting down in one of the other chairs. "One of my favorites. The Scouring of the Shire always hit me particularly hard." He blinked at the rather large piece of roast beef, then turned his attention back to her, still smiling. "And I did rather like the movies."

"So did I. ...I keep feeling vaguely miffed about the wargs now, though," she confessed. "Er. ...Want a snack?"

"I'm okay. But thank you." He leaned back in the chair, still watching her. "I notice you exercised your usual good sense and kept out of the various conflagarations on the journals this weekend."

"Ugh." Rahne rubbed her forehead with one hand and had a bite of roast beef before trying to say anything more articulate. "I fell asleep after the doctors finished stabilizing Illyana, and by the time I woke up I wouldna have known where to start if I'd even wanted in."

"I was just asleep all weekend period," Nathan said almost cheerfully. "And you know, I don't even feel particularly bad for missing it all."

"Canna blame you." She growled under her breath. "I'm inclined to be with Amanda on the whole idea of demons in general, I got to watch Illyana get put back together from where one of them didna quite gut her, and then there's 'If Satan cast out Satan' -- Och, never mind." She growled under her breath. "I want to go hunting."

Nathan raised an eyebrow. "Something stopping you?" he asked, noting the growl.

"Just me." A small smile. "Mr. Marko mentioned hunting licenses, and I went to look things up about them.... I've written to the Professor about whether I can and ought to get one. Turns out I maybe should have had something for the frogs and rabbits, not just the deer...."

"I applaud your ethics," Nathan said mock-gravely, then grinned. "Still. There's something to be said for the fact that wolves are not expected to get hunting licenses. And a case could be made that you are at least part wolf."

"If I'm hunting, I'm definitely going to be a wolf," she said wryly. "And I did notice that it doesna look like the weapons they specify include 'teeth.' Still, I told the Professor I wouldna start again until I heard back from him."
cablewriter: "So instead you have a bit of a substitute," he said, waving his hand at the roast beef, "and Tolkien. Not a bad choice, really."

"Very tasty and doesna run away," she agreed.

"Shall I leave you to it?" Nathan asked with a chuckle, leaning forward in the chair. "And I can ask Charles about the hunting license if you want... I'm due to see him for a session tomorrow."

"I'm sure he'll get to the email when he has time, but if ye like, thanks." She smiled. "And I doona mind the company, but willna keep ye. Imagine Lady Moira'll be glad to see ye -- at least, I think she's out of the lab still."

Nathan tilted his head, feeling along the link. "Upstairs again, yes," he said with another smile. "I should probably go keep her from making another mad dash down to the lab. She tends to do that when she thinks I'm not looking."

"I'll see ye tomorrow, then?"

"Barring further catastrophe, yes," he said with a chuckle, heading for the door. "Good night, Rahne."
