The Gates: Snapshots

Angelo and Juliette get some pictures of Smichov and talk about some of their frustrations. The reality of Smichov is beginning to wear on both of them already.

Report me and my cause aright / To the unsatisfied. )

The Gates: Detained

Nathan, Angelo and Medusa visit with the city councilor for Smichov, who was sealed up in his neighborhood right along with his constituents when the security barrier went up. The story he has to tell is a grim one. Then the men with guns come knocking at the door.

Under a government which imprisons any unjustly, the true place for a just man is also a prison. )

The Gates: Welcome to the Ghetto

Nathan and Angelo settle into the group's accommodations in Smichov and take stock of the situation. It's about as grim as they expected.

Governments tend not to solve problems, only rearrange them. )

The Gates - A Clairol Moment

Medusa shows Nathan what she's done with her hair for the trip. Nathan gives her a new passport, and shocks her to the core by telling her that she can only take one bag with her to Prague.

There is no such thing as too much fun with one's hair. )

The Gates: "... when subjects are rebels from principle" (Angelo and Nathan; Angelo and Sarah)

Nathan, Angelo and Rachel are spending a peaceable Sunday afternoon when breaking news from Prague hits the BBC. The situation just got a little worse.

Violence never settles anything right: apart from injuring your own soul, it injures the best cause. )

An hour later, Angelo is still on the roof, brooding and chainsmoking. Until Sarah comes looking for him, that is.

Quit beating yourself up. That's my job. )

The Gates: Friends Like These

Nathan and Medusa are attending a meeting of the Prague working group at the UN when a familiar face appears. Istvan Barath gives them some information they didn't have. Ignorance isn't bliss, but sometimes the truth is very worrying.

The downward spiral )

The Gates: Standing by the Wall

Nathan and Rahne attend a meeting at the UN on the situation in Prague. It turns out the man who ordered the barriers built is at the UN that day as well - and so are two opposing groups of protestors. Nathan and Rahne get a graphic illustration of just how heated tempers are getting on the situation in question.

International arbitration may be defined as the substitution of many burning questions for a smoldering one. )

The Gates: Quid Pro Quo

Medusa visits the boathouse with some information for Nathan - and a request. Nathan, in turn, makes a suggestion that Medusa finds somewhat surprising, but also rather intriguing.

Can I get you some of our substandard coffee? )

Nathan and Logan, Thursday afternoon

On his way to office hours, Nathan happens to catch Logan watching CNN, and the situation in Prague is the topic of the hour. Nathan gets a chance to muse aloud about the complexities of the situation.

'You have a cunning plan, I take it?' 'I have a cunning holding pattern, for now.' )

The Gates: Roads To Hell

Nathan and Angelo are in the middle of a fairly slow Tuesday afternoon when the Elpis newsfeed-minding program brings up some breaking news from Prague. After weeks of violence, the Czech government has finally decided to take steps.

To me, it seems a dreadful indignity to have a soul controlled by geography. )
