Monet and Barbara St. Croix.
Monet reached out and hugged her mum. "Hey..."
"Hi, love, it's so good to see you." Barbara St. Croix's hug was just short of bone crushing, for anyone who wasn't functionally invulnerable. Then she stepped back, looking at her daughter critically. "You look too skinny. Are you eating? Do they feed you properly in this place?
"I'm eating. Lots, even. Lorna's even had me taking extra cooking lessons off her." Monet frowned slightly. "Did you get your hair done at that place again? You did, didn't you?"
"I like that place. They give me a cup of tea and a biscuit while I'm waiting for it to set." Barbara reached out and touched Monet's hair. "I like this - you look so much like your grandmother every time I see you. She'd be so proud of you, at uni, doing well..." She tilted her head inquiringly. "You are doing well, right?"
Monet nodded. "Yeah... I've even passed everything and I've got my summer stuff, so I can get into the second year stuff next year. But it's really, really boring. I don't like it. They're all wankers and things."
"It's what your father wants," Barbara said pointedly. "And it's for your future - something to stand by you later. We won't always be around to bail you out of trouble, you know."
She sighed. "I know. I know. Look, how are Nicole and Claudette going?"
"They're holy terrors, just like their sister. No powers yet, but that will come eventually." Barbara smiled, linked her arm through Monet's. "Now, how about you tell me all your gossip?"
