Back at the hotel in Srinagar, Nathan is enjoying some quiet time watching the sun set over the Himalayas when his uncle appears. He and Gideon have what passes for a civil conversation. Gideon gives him the pieces of a puzzle that's been troubling him for months. It's not done out of the kindness of his heart.

You have a hole in your mind. )

Hours later, Angelo gets worried and comes down from the suite looking for Nathan, who's still sitting in the bar and brooding.

If that was s'posed to be a subtle way to tell me not to question why you're sittin' down here at 1.15am... I don't work here. )

Before leaving Sonamarg, Angelo goes for an early-morning walk with Samie. Up the side of a mountain. The two of them have a rather nice chat despite Angelo's discovery that he really needs to quit smoking.

Why are you wheezing? This is just a nice brisk walk! )

On their way back to Srinagar, Nathan and Angelo finally hit paydirt. Only it's not what Nathan expected.

Mind pointing me to whoever's in charge? )

Later in the day, Nathan, Angelo and Samie have a less-than-friendly encounter with the enraged father of a mutant teenager in one of the villages. They get out with no blows thrown, but an enterprising young thief rifles through their bags while their backs are turned and Nathan winds up missing something that he would have preferred not to lose.

Ask him why he's angry. Ask him about his... son? )

They arrive in Sonamarg and meet Nathan's old friend Duncan, who promises to do some poking around for information about DRMA on his own. It's turning into a rather nice evening when the local morality police show up to complain that Duncan's bar serves alcohol. A bar brawl ensues. Then celebratory drinking ensues.

You're still alive! Will wonders never cease! )

Nathan and Angelo pick up a young woman hitchhiking. Samie turns out to be the solution to their translation woes.

Where are you headed? )

Stopping at one of the more remote villages, they finally find out just what DRMA may indeed be up to, and Nathan meets another young Kashmiri woman - one who happens to share a mutant ability with him.

She's a telepath. )

Nathan and Angelo's rented Jeep turns out to be in fragile health, and breaks down miles from nowhere. They set up camp for the night, and in the course of campfire conversation Angelo finds out more about what's led Nathan into this new line of work as well as a few of Nathan's other recent secrets.

Car trouble. In backcountry Kashmir. It would have been funny if it hadn't been so aggravating. )

At breakfast, Angelo gets wide-eyed over the Himalayas, Nathan gets nostalgic about his climbing days, and plans are made to see a little of Srinagar before they head out into the back country.

It's the Himalayas, Angelo. You're supposed to be knocked on your ass the first time you see them. )

They stroll through Srinagar, and Nathan encourages Angelo to think about the differences between here and home that have him so fascinated. They decide to do just a little frivolous sight-seeing after their errands and before heading out.

Feels like being dropped into another world, doesn't it? )

They find the local office of DRMA, and the administrative assistant makes them tea while Nathan swipes some useful information from his computer.

I was wondering if we could pretend I was a freelance British reporter, and that you and I and my photographer here sat down and had a lovely chat about your organization's activities. )

Asleep in Srinagar, Nathan dreams once more about Santiago de Compostela. There is something beyond the symbolism, but he's not yet at the place where he's ready to see it.

The Night Ones )

Nathan and Angelo arrive in New Delhi for their connecting flight to Kashmir. Neither one of them is particularly sure what time it is. They have a somewhat disjointed conversation about languages, their hotel, and conversational strategies for information-gathering.

Stop looking at your watch. Trust me, you don't want to know what time it is in Westchester. )

Moira finds Nathan taking a break from packing for the Kashmir trip to play with Rachel. Rachel demonstrates that she learns fast, much to her mother's delight. It is agreed that Nathan will stay out of trouble in India.

Look, it's a flying baby. Now, don't you get any ideas about doing this yourself... )
