Nate decides to ambush Haller to talk about what happened in San Diego, but getting the right personality is a little like Russian roulette these days. And yet, thankfully, not as futile as it seems.

Yeah, what? )

The day after the incident with Shiro, Nathan and Ororo review his Danger Room tapes from the summer, looking for some sign of when he may have started relying on a little pharmaceutical assistance. When they focus on a specific (and suspicious) DR session, something about the tape twigs something entirely unrelated for Nathan - a lost memory that's been gone for only a couple of months, rather than years.

All lit in gold. )

After this log, Scott is alerted to a very distraught Betsy and follows her before she can try of his tricks (like driving while distraught). It's not such a great conversation for either of them, and is definitely surreal in patches.

A TSUNAMI! You sent them out to be killed, but they lived! They only came back broken! )

Amanda comes down to find Angelo, and guilts him into getting some food and a shower and spending some time with Rachel.

What use are you going to be for him if you drive yourself into the ground? )

Later, he goes to see Rachel, who proceeds to be sulky and precocious and very slightly Creepy Telepathic Baby. But still cute!

Mahmahmahmah! )

Kurt is the first to notice Marie’s self-imposed isolation and goes to check on her. Unfortunately, all they really establish is that they both wish they had a bit of foresight instead of hindsight.

Ah mean, how many girls get the opportunity to run into the man that kidnapped them and watch him get away again? )

As the days wear on, Wanda and Doug are called in to give a hand with the zoo. It appears that after saving people, there are still things to be done. And despite being near to the breaking point, the two fall back into old habits and get the job done.

Of all the jobs in this whole city, I'm stuck rescuing drop bears )

Back on the ground in San Diego, Scott checks on yet another of his X-Men, and finds out that Shiro rather badly needs to take a break. Frog-marching to the nearest food station commences.

Sunfire. Down here, now. )

Ororo stops in to visit Nathan. When she finds out what's going on, she gives him some much-needed reassurance about his place with the school and the team.

A man of courage is also full of faith. )

A little later, Nathan's all-too-active and more-than-slightly snarky subconscious decides that it's time to add his two cents' worth, yet again. As usual, he has the knack of clarifying things.

Courage is simply the willingness to be afraid and act anyway. )

After the events of July 5th, Haller has finally regained consciousness. It is not a pleasant awakening.

Awake )

Someone shows up at the mansion with a solution to the problem of Nathan's virus. It's a shocking solution, accompanied by an even more shocking truth.

Truth is violated by falsehood, and it may be equally outraged by silence. )

After having played eavesdropper on Nathan's conversation with MacInnis, Angelo tries to comfort him and engage his logic. Neither really works.

Truth never hurts the teller. )

Not at all happy, Angelo heads upstairs to give MacInnis a piece of his mind, only to find out that there was one truth that didn't get shared.

They keep telling us that in war truth is the first casualty, which is nonsense since it implies that in times of peace truth stays out of the sick bay or the graveyard. )

Scott checks in with Marie, to make sure she's got a functioning com and offer a little encouragement.

Remind me to remember the coms the next time I tell Lorna to EMP the area. )

Back at the mansion the next day, Angelo finds Nathan back on his feet - sort of - but definitely not right in the head.

I don't want to lie down. I won't be able to breathe if I lie down. )

Immediately at the end of this log, Amanda calls Angelo to let him know what's going on.

And I didn't want to get a bollocking for not telling you. )

Upon returning with the Blackbird, Amanda finds out that Nathan's gone back into the infirmary and stops in to visit. They manage to have a mostly coherent conversation, but Nathan's clearly fading.

This is a blast from the past, isn't it? )

Scott, on his latest trip to the mansion, checks on his wife. This time, Jean's awake - and not at all keen on letting him head back to the disaster zone, even if duty calls.

Damn it, woman, you're hell on my sense of duty... )

It seems Amanda's more tired than she thought. Or there's something else at work here. Kurt intervenes and she lets him.

There will be other times. )

Jennie is sent to check on everyone who's been released from the medlab to see if they're staying still. Nathan is, suprise surprise, trying to work. And he doesn't look too well either.

You don't look good, and I don't like that. Don't be stubborn. )
