Nathan, barred from lugeing, decides that it's time to tell Moira about the progress he's made with his Southeast Asian mystery after Friday's conference. The answer is becoming clearer and clearer, unpalatable as it might be. After making some decisions on that subject, the two of them relax a little. Unexpectedly, the topic of adding to the family comes up. Thankfully, they're both in agreement as to the answer.

A chance encounter in the teacher's lounge between Nathan and Jean turns into a discussion of his Southeast Asian mystery. Jean is as disturbed about the numbers as Moira was, and offers her help, while gently introducing Nathan to the truth that annoying UN bureaucrats can be managed in ways that don't involve looming or other forms of intimidation. The subject of Askani also comes up, but only briefly.

Nathan, don't take this the wrong way but you weren't... hmm, how to put this... You weren't an overbearing bastard during the meeting, were you? I mean, from a bureaucrat's perspective. )

After a frustrating early morning meeting with a bureaucrat at the UN about the 'Southeast Asian mystery', Nathan and Angelo have a late breakfast. Angelo calls him on his bad mood, Nathan tells him a little bit of the truth, and they establish that yes, running off to Cambodia is feasible if it becomes necessary.

Moira finds Nathan cursing at statistics and confirms for him that yes, there is something very odd about the questionable mutant birth-rate numbers in Southeast Asia. Much to his delight, she promises to make some calls.

Evil, evil numbers. )

Angelo brings Nathan the reports he wanted on their Southeast Asian mystery, and Nathan is Not Impressed to hear about one of the things that went on at the hotel in Seattle during the riot. The conversation turns to Amanda and her departure, but trails off in mutual inability-to-do-anything.

That was fast. Expected you to be a few more days digging that up... )

Nathan looks into precisely what was fishy about Cambodia, and finds some puzzling numbers involving the mutant birth rate. He and Angelo decide to look into it further.
