Now that Nathan's been out of the infirmary for a while and is feeling better, Jim decides that it's time to tell him precisely why he won't be doing anything that dumb ever again. The message gets heard and understood. On his way out, Jim asks a casual question about the Cable-self's fixation with dolphins. It triggers a real memory of his childhood for Nathan - and a memory from ten years ago that he had never consciously seen for what it was.

A promise fulfilled. )

Nathan has a last moment with Askani. Saul has a last moment with Gideon. Their last moments are of a very different sort, and the X-Men aren't bringing everyone home today.

What thou lovest well remains... )

On the Blackbird and safely on the journey home, Haller goes into Nathan's mind to assess the damage and finds himself in the company of strangers. From a certain point of view.

It shouldn't be empty. )

The X-Men land in Ushuaia and tackle Gideon's security detail, including some familiar faces from Vladivostok. Meanwhile, Gideon tries one last time to synch to Nathan's precognition - and is successful.

Which is precisely what Nathan wanted. In the process, Nathan discovers that what he didn't see is something he should have expected all alone. Or rather, someone.

In Rio, the team finds the house, a day too late. But Alison and Saul also find something left behind for them - and not by Nathan. Elsewhere, Nathan finds himself in the right place. All that's left to do is wait.

The hours fly, the hours fall. )

Angelo needs to blow off steam after getting Nathan's email. Bobby follows him and offers to be his personal punching bag, then tries to offer a few words of comfort and encouragement. Yay for insomniac roomies.

You know what Gideon can do, you must've heard about it. )

Nathan decides to celebrate his fortieth birthday with an "escape attempt" that's nothing of the sort. He gets the end result he wants, but pays for it.

Time waits for no one. )

Nathan, having a very bad day in Rio, finds a surprising lack of ambiguity in his uncle on a very unexpected subject. He also starts to think about time, and how much he may or may not have to see this through.

Time is dead as long as it is being clicked off by little wheels; only when the clock stops does time come to life. )

Sitting on the Blackbird in Rio, the two civillians have a quiet moment before setting out.

That's what I'm here for. )

Upon arriving in Brazil, Lorna and Cain go undercover (well, as undercover as a woman with green hair and a seven-foot tall man can) and start looking for Nathan. Lorna gets a headache and they get a lead.

Any resemblance to other angry red headed men or fiery green haired women is purely coincidental.

I'll take my chance cause luck is on my side or something )

Nathan wakes up in Rio de Janeiro. Gideon greets him. The two of them have something that almost passes for a civilized conversation. Gideon makes it very clear where he stands, and how far he's willing to go. Nathan, on the other hand, does not.

The last hour is hidden so we must watch them all. )

Angelo goes to talk to Saul in hopes of clarifying some of his notes on Nathan's visions. It's... not as productive as he might have hoped.

I know, perhaps, more about you than you would find entirely comfortable. )

Nathan picks up his father, and drives to the brownstone from his vision, where Gideon is waiting. The two of them try the father/son talk again in the car. It doesn't go very well. When they get to the brownstone, the 'summit' is short, unpleasant, and comes to a violent end - just like Nathan knew it would. To Saul, however, it comes as an unpleasant surprise.

What we do and don't see coming... )

Three hours after Nathan's unannounced hiatus it becomes obvious that the twenty-four hour grace period is not necessarily going to be met. Thank you, cranky telepathic baby, for blowing Daddy's cover.

Ye make coverin' up for me 'usband so much 'arder. )
