Domino collects on the bet she and Cain made the last time she was at the mansion, and he agrees to shield her from the bouquet like he promised. Somehow, before that, they wind up dancing the tango.

"Cain!" Dodging and weaving, Domino slipped through the crowd to where he was sitting. "Moira's giving her bouquet speculative looks. I think the time for you to pay up on that bet is fast approaching." Flushed and grinning - she was glad she'd gotten rid of the dress's jacket; light as it was, it had gotten damned hot in here once people had started dancing - she folded her arms across her chest and gazed down at him. "You're not going to welch on me, are you?"

"Hell no," Cain crowed, downing his glass of Glenlivet and holding a hand out to Domino. The green actually suited her, he noticed. "After all, whoever catches the bouquet is s'posed to be the next one married, right? And just think of the career move that'd be for you." He laughed quietly to himself. "'Course, you're probably going to tell me Nate married you off to some Italian count when you were seventeen so you guys could blow up a munitions factory or something."

"Career move," Domino scoffed, amused to notice that the crowd actually parted for them on their way back towards the center of the dance floor. Oh, sure, now that I have a Very Large specimen of the male persuasion to back me up... "And no, Nate never did that. I am allergic to the very idea of matrimony. Or, well, relationships in general at the moment. So! No bouquet for me." She had perhaps had a little too much Scotch already...

"Excellent!" Cain proclaimed, dodging past two of the students who were attempting some atrocious attempt at a waltz. "I think I was telling Nate something similar this morning. Some folks just ain't the marryin' kind. Thankfully, I'm one of them."

"I mean, who wants to settle down? How very boring. And it's worse when you're a woman, you know. So many double standards." Domino rolled her eyes, thinking about the barbed conversation with Haroun. "You'd better be a damned good human shield, let me tell you. I have absolutely no desire to be the butt of Plas--of any jokes should those flowers wind up in my hands."

"Think of it like artillery," Cain quipped, lightly lifting Domino by placing one hand on the small of her back to step lightly around some of the other people on the floor. "Best way not to get shelled is to be uprange instead of downrange. Reminds me of this time back in '63 when we were sneaking around behind a VC mortar outpost. Except, well, a bouquet don't send shrapnel all over, and Moira's a lot crankier than the VC when she gets going..."

Domino brightened. "Good plan! And hell, if all else fails I can always dive for cover. I do that well." She looked up at him mischievously. "We didn't get our tango yet."

As if on cue, the music shifted to a sultry Latin tune. Arching an eyebrow in accusation, Cain stepped forward and wrapped one arm around Domino's shoulders, holding her hand gently to make up for two feet of height difference. "That fell into place rather coincidentally," he commented.

Violet eyes sparkled up at him wickedly. "Was that an accusation, or just an observation?" Domino asked in an innocent voice that no one with two functioning brain cells would have bought for an instant.

"Yes," Cain said simply, then smiled and moved as basically as he could to the music. While he technically knew every step of the tango from years of classic movies, trying to move gracefully with a partner who was less than an eighth of his body mass was difficult. Thankfully, Domino more than held up her part, managing to make Cain look not completely inept.

The one problem with the tango was that it was always over too soon. Before they knew it, the band had switched back to something much more Scottish-sounding, and Domino snagged a glass of punch - this time; she'd had enough Scotch for now - from a passing waiter. "That," she said happily, looking up at Cain, "was quite nice. I haven't done that for a while."

Cain gave a slight nod of his head and a smile, watching the women start gathering at one end of the courtyard outside. "Well, from all appearances, it looks like this is a cue to di di mau if you want to get out of bouquet range. And make sure Nate doesn't see you sneak off, you just know he'd cheat and push that thing halfway across the island for you."

"He knows better." Domino paused, blinked. "I hope."
