After reading Paige's announcement to the journal system, Alison stops by to check on Sam.

The door to the common room leading to Sam's suite was slightly ajar. Alison stared at it for a moment, then the window at the end of the hallway, the sun pouring through brilliantly as though nothing were wrong at all with the world. And, Alison thought distantly, she supposed the world thought everything was going just fine and dandy after all, at that. Reaching out, she pushed to door open further slowly and it took only a few steps forward to reveal Sam, seated at the computer he'd always left in the common room, staring at the screen.

Harvard. MIT. Sam supposed he should be proud. He doubted he could have gotten into either. That wasn't to say that Sam thought of himself as dumb, just that Paige far outstripped him in terms of raw intelligence. He should be proud, he really should. He was sure that Momma would be. But all Sam could concentrate on was the fact that she'd left without saying a word to him. He knew his relationship with Paige was so strained that he probably should have expected this, but it still saddened him.

"Hey..." Pushing the door back to where it had originally been, Alison crossed the room with a slow walk, giving Sam time to work himself out of whatever train of thought reading Paige's post had sent him in. There wasn't really anything to say though, and once she reached him she just laid a hand on his shoulder instead. In quiet support.

Sam was startled for a moment by Alison's quiet greeting, though it probably shouldn't have surprised him. Things still weren't always easy between them, and Sam still had to fight the occasional flash of jealousy when he saw her and Haroun together. But, after the night out with Scott, they were at least back to talking some. And right now Sam definitely needed the support. He reached up to squeeze Alison's hand before letting out a defeated sigh.

Looking down, Alison smiled just a bit instead – understanding and worry present in her eyes, as well as quiet calm. Sam needed calm, just now. "I have faith in her," Alison murmured finally, glancing at the screen briefly. No matter what happened, no matter how things turned out, that would never change. "She'll be okay in the end."
