Scott and Alex, Friday evening
Jun. 10th, 2005 06:54 pmHeading upstairs from the medlab after sitting with Jean for a while, Scott finds himself reflecting rather morosely on his apparent thing for the Sleeping Beauty type. Fortunately, Alex chooses an opportune time to arrive with a thermos of coffee and his usual reminders that a sense of humor is a good thing.
She was going to wake up, Scott reminded himself, and be fine. He knew that. Madelyn and Charles had both assured him of that, but sitting beside Jean's bed, watching her... it had reminded him too sharply of other times, with Betsy. In the end, he hadn't been able to stay as long as he'd intended. Charles was shielding her, in any case. It wasn't as if she'd sense him sitting there... or if it would help, if she did, judging by what she'd shouted at him yesterday.
Scott closed the door to her room behind him and slipped quietly out of the medlab, not wanting to run into any of the other doctors just now. Upstairs would be good. He had work to do, anyway.
After being given a hint by his elder blue brother, Alex was on his way down with a large thermos of Lorna's coffee. He didn't care why Jean was in the other doctors' care, he just wanted to take care of Scott while she was. As he approached the top of the stairs, he saw Scott coming up and smiled as he waited for him. "Ya know, I was just coming down to bring this to you, bro..."
"Coffee. Oooh," Scott said with a wry little smile, reaching out for it as he reached the top of the stairs. "That's okay, I can take it to my office with me. Although that's very inconsistent of you, you know, Alex... aiding and abetting my caffeine habit."
"My girlfriend is the caffeine queen. I may not like the stuff, but I can see its rewards for those who are worried." Alex cracked a grin at him. "Off to work then, hmm?"
"Yeah. Jean's fine - she just needs to catch up on her sleep." Scott gave him a brief, but determinedly bright smile. "Remind you of anyone?"
"Now I know who you got it from." Alex kidded, elbowing him in the ribs gently. "Good thing I came along to show you how to lighten up."
"Bad habits are a couple's thing. You and Lorna might want to remember that." Scott shook the thermos at Alex. "You'll find yourself setting up coffee IVs for yourself yet."
He put up his hands to befend himself from the threatening thermos. "I've resisted for almost two years! I think I can handle it..." Alex managed to get out between chuckles.
"I wouldn't say that too loudly. Wait until you get to college and need to be pulling all-nighters on a regular basis."
"It's called Mountain Dew, dude." He raised his eyebrows as he smirked.
Scott shook his head. "Incorrigible."
"Takes one to know one..." Alex began to whistle innocently as he began to walk away.
