From a few weeks ago...
Nov. 21st, 2003 05:48 pmx_essex: "Ms Pryde. Enjoying your dinner?"
x_kitten: "Hello, and yes, thank you sir."
x_essex: "You've earned it, Ms Pryde. I trust you were able to force Mr. Madrox into a suit?"
x_kitten: "Oh yes. He doesn't mind dressing up _that_ much."
x_essex: "Good, good. I'm glad that you have a chance to have a nice evening."
x_kitten: "Indeed. How are you doing?"
x_essex: "I have been in better circumstances, truly. Have they mentioned any change in Ms Braddock's condition?"
x_kitten: "No, I've not heard of anything. I know Dr. McCoy is still monitering her, but they would have said if she started getting better."
x_essex: "Blast. As I assumed. Have they questioned you yet on the surgery?"
x_kitten: "A little. Nothing in depth, no. Mostly they're just mad that I was involved and don't want me to know it so they're avoiding talking about it. Or, well, I think anyway."
x_essex: "Indeed. At least they haven't tried to punish you for that."
x_kitten: "True."
x_essex: "Damn it." There was a long pause. "Ms Pryde, you are aware that Ms Braddock will die if she remains in that mansion."
x_kitten: Her voice is small. "Yes, I think so. Because of what happened during the surgery? It... it wasn't supposed to go like that."
x_essex: "It wasn't the surgery, Ms Pryde. Ms Braddock's original injury was much more severe than was originally diagnosed. She's suffering rapid cerebral deterioration. Her brain can't repair itself from the tramua of her inital surgery. Even worse is that the damage has effected her psionic abilities. She's going to start failing, and very soon."
x_kitten: "Oh..."
x_essex: "I can correct it. I know I can, but I need a special surgical bay. One is available at Fort Dix, but they refuse to release her from the school. If not that, I don't have a clue what else might work."
x_kitten: She's quite, listening.
x_essex: "So, what options do I have left, Ms Pryde? I won't let Ms Braddock die. That would betray her trust in me, Ms Pryde. I can't let that happen."
x_kitten: "I know sir, but... I don't know what to do."
x_essex: "Unfortunately, I do. There is a problem though."
x_kitten: "What?"
x_essex: "It requires me to use their tactics, Ms Pryde. To ask things from my former students that I have no right to ask. I must ask you to forgive me for this."
x_kitten: "What is it sir?"
x_essex: "We have to get Ms Braddock out of that mansion, Ms Pryde. If we can get her out to the ground, we can get her to the surgical bay and I can perform the surgery."
x_kitten: There's a moment of stunned silence. "But, how sir?"
x_essex: "You, Ms Pryde. While we were training, we discovered that with your power, you can move an object larger and heavier then yourself. Like Ms Braddock on her bed." Essex paused, and Kitty could hear his difficulty in bringing this up. "If you can get her into the escape tunnel under the mansion, I can make sure you can make it all the way out."
x_kitten: Kitty thinks for a moment, considering. "They'll notice," she finally says. "Dr. McCoy is always down there, and I don't think I could arrange anything that would get him away long enough for me to get that far."
x_essex: "Miss Colbert has agreed to take care of that. Doctor McCoy will be asleep by the time you come for Ms Braddock."
x_kitten: "Oh..." her voice is quiet, but still thoughtful. "I can probably fix the alarms not to go off." Going to be in sooo much trouble. But Betsy...
x_essex: "Ms Morlocke will disable the mansion alarms, as long as you can secure the medical sensors from tripping. I will have transportation and assistance waiting at the end of the tunnel."
x_kitten: "Sure, I can send a data loop through the sensors. Um... are we going to need them though? If I disconect them we won't know if she suddenly gets worse."
x_essex: "Ms Braddock should be fine for the ten minutes or so that she will be off the monitors. Her condition is not such that I'm worried about a cardiopulminary failure. No, it will be an anurysm if anything, and monitors won't make it any less fatel."
x_kitten: Kitty swollows faintly, and then nods. "Ok, I get her out of the lab and to the tunnel and there will be people to get her farther?"
x_essex: "Indeed. We will airlift her to Fort Dix and start the surgery. I will need at least fifteen to twenty hours to complete the operation. After that, we'll know if Ms Braddock can be saved."
x_kitten: "Alright. When?"
x_essex: "Soon. This week, I hope. If possible, Thursday evening. I can have everything in place that fast."
x_kitten: "Ok, I'll be ready." She paused for a second, then said, "I'm going to tell Jamie, if that's ok?"
x_essex: "Are you sure that is the best plan, Ms Pryde? Mr Madrox is certainly not a fan of my teaching, and he does not know Ms Braddock well. Can you be sure that he will not inform the staff?"
x_kitten: "I don't think he would, especially not if I ask him, and he's going to want to know who was on the phone."
x_essex: "Very well, Ms Pryde. I will trust your decision." Essex said finally. "I will send word to you before Thursday, Are you sure you are ready to do this? You may face expulsion at the very least."
x_kitten: Kitty swollows again. "If I don't Ms. Braddock will die. That's not an option."
x_essex: "Very well, Ms Pryde. I will tell you this. No matter what happens, I will always be there to help you."
x_kitten: "Thank you sir."
x_essex: "Go, enjoy your dinner. I'm sure you have a most... interesting conversation ahead of you."
x_kitten: "I'll see you soon sir," she said, voice quiet.
x_essex: "Good evening, Ms Pryde."
x_kitten: "You too."
