I have no doubt that at this moment you are sitting up in your bed, reading this letter with your
own two eyes. Some rather strange paths have happened to bring you to this point, which I feel
should be addressed. However, do take this one moment of unalloyed delight to revel in your
newly regained sense. That will be my payment.

Unfortunately, your initial surgery was not as successful as we hoped. Due to whatever butcher's
apprentice you had working on your after your first injury, you were suffering from a rapid
cerebral deterioration. Without your desire to pursue our procedure, it would have likely gone
unchecked until a massive aneurysm terminated your life. My best guess would have placed it
somewhere in the next six to eight months. That, fortunately, is no longer a concern.

However, you have been comatose for over two months, Ms Braddock. There will be lingering
effects, the most complex of those being your psychic abilities. It is very likely you will have to
relearn a great many skills and actions you once did instinctively. Your mind must build new
pathways to do those actions, and it will not be an easy process. That being said, you will suffer
no diminishment in either your physical or psionic abilities. You will simply require some time
before you are fully restored. Please try and avoid major combat until that time.

There is a more sobering aspect to this entire affair, Ms Braddock. While you were comatose, and
in fact, in direct relation to your condition, I was dismissed from my post at the school. I was also
barred from treating your condition. I have committed a technically illegal action in performing
the surgery that has brought you back to consciousness. As to my oaths as a doctor, I have
violated the strictest letters of the law while preserving the intentions of those oaths. If you should
decide to take legal actions against me, I shall offer no defence.

There is a second, darker aspect to your recovery. Following my expulsion, I was reduced to
relying on the students to affect your recovery. Yes, Ms Braddock, I convinced four students to,
in essence, kidnap your recumbent form from the mansion and carry it to a military installation to
perform the surgery. Ms Pryde, Ms Morlocke, Ms Colbert, and Mr Madrox all worked to do this
under the very noses of the X-Men. I have no doubt the staff will bring all manner of accusations
and attacks down on them. Ms Braddock, the only one at fault for this is myself. Shield them as
ably as you can, Ms Braddock. I accept that it was unacceptable to use them, but I held my ethics
verses your life in the balance. I am prepared to pay that price. They should not have to.

I doubt we shall see each other for some time, Betsy. I cannot say if you will even wish to see me.
In any case, your sight is yours. Your mind is once again sound and your health is your
responsibility again. Take care of your new found sight, and of yourself. I would take it as a
compliment if I am not required to work on your health again.
