One last job. Amanda has something for Moira.
Amanda stepped off the ferry onto the weathered wood of the dock and adjusted the straps of the small backpack. She was tired - it had been a hectic week and a lot of different trains - but there was one more thing to do to finish this business. With a nod to the ferryman, she headed up the winding path towards the clinic.
Moira had been notified by security the second that the boat had started to approach Muir but since it was very clearly Amanda, no one had been concerned. Without having told them the details, she'd upped the security level around the facilities…just in case. But now she was just waiting in her office with steaming cups of tea, looking relieved since it seemed that everything had worked out.
The security guys knew her and Amanda was waved through without too much delay. She knew the way to Moira's office by heart and made a direct line for it. There'd be time for chat later. Knocking on the door gently, she waited for a response.
"'Tis open, Amanda," Moira called out, pushing herself off the couch so she could meet Amanda at the door.
Amanda was already reaching into her bag for the stainless steel canister containing Kevin's tissue samples. As Moira approached, she held it out to her.
Gingerly, she took the canister and cradled it in her hands. It was cold to the touch but she'd seen these types of things plenty of times. It was cool to keep the material inside fresh and useful. The fact that it was parts of the remains from her son made her eyes suddenly tear up. "Thank ye," she said quietly. "Is everyone alright?"
Amanda nodded. "Went like a charm." Then her eyes shadowed a little. "We found Sarah there - she'd been used for organ harvesting since with the healing factor she could re-grow what they took. She wasn't there too long, at least and she seems to be doing okay. No doubt the new shrink will have her tied to the couch in no time." Her glance fell on the canister. "But we got the job done and this bloke won't be a problem ever again. And Kevin... he's back home, where he belongs." Her voice cracked a little on the last.
Moira's look had darkened at the thought of Sarah—or anyone else—being stuck with that mad man. Reaching over, she slid an arm over Amanda's shoulders and took in a deep breath. "Aye, he is, at last. I need ta put him ta rest. Walk wit' me ta his grave?"
Amanda nodded. "Of course."
