It takes more than a telepthic telekinetic baby to upset Julio, as Rachel finds to her dismay.

Julio had been having nightmares for the past three days. Usually with the same variation of a man in a red helmet chasing him, although there was the one where the woman with red hair tied him down and poked him with needles. Thankfully this morning Julio was having a relatively peaceful dream in which he was at his school back in Mexico and couldn't remember his locker combination. Or find his pants.

Something disrupted the dream. A tugging at the t-shirt he had worn to bed, quite insistent. "Mah," a piping voice said. "Mahbah."

Something patted Julio on the nose. He brushed it away. The patting returned, much more insistant. Julio swatted it away again, only to be aware of a pressure on his chest. He opened his eyes and saw that he had a small child sitting on his chest, almost nose-to-nose with him. "Bueno...?" he said sleepily.

"Hee," Rachel proclaimed cheerfully and wrapped her little arms around his neck, hugging. "Heehee. Ooo!"

Her movement involved lodging a knee into his diaphram. "oof...a la verrga.." He sat up quickly, one arm under her so she wouldn't fall over.

Baby giggles were the only reply Julio got. "Maabah," Rachel finally said, snuggling as he sat up.

Julio held Rachel with one arm and rubbed his eye with the other hand. There were more disturbing ways to wake up, he supposed. "Maabah." He repeated groggily at the baby. Other teenage boys would have been upset at having a baby wake them up by sitting on their chest, but Julio had been to enough family functions that it didn't even give him pause.

Rachel beamed and grabbed at his hair experimentally, letting out a series of happy squeaking noises. Her thought brushed against his like golden champagne bubbles.

Julio blinked and jerked a little, startled. But then he lowered his head to let her tug at his hair. He knew better than to keep hair away from a baby, that would make them want it even more and make the inevitible tugging worse.

Oh, he was humoring her. Pah! Rachel giggled and lurched forward, grabbing at his nose instead. New people! New pieces! This was fun.

"Ow." Julio said, as Rachel's lurch ended with her smacking him in the face. Sighing her switched her to his other arm. "~Such violence so early, my pretty one.~"

Rachel, unfortunately, was not quite old enough to let him remind him that she was Nathan Dayspring's daughter, so the violence was probalby inevitable. "Heeheehee!" she crowed maniacally, and then slipped out of Julio's grasp, floating just in front of his eyes.

Oh goody, this must be what Nathan meant when he said she could fly. Julio yawned broadly and stretched, tying to look unimpressed.

"Mah?" Rachel inquired, perplexed. A new person, and he wasn't shrieking or even gaping! She turned a lazy somersault in the air, making an interrogative noise.

Ah, children. So easy to play, even if they could move things with their brains. Julio reached out and snatched her foot, tickling it.

"Eee! Eee!" Rachel flailed in the air, burbling at him

Julio switched and tickled her stomach. "~I've got you now, little pretty one.~"

Rachel shrieked happily and tried to kick him in the mouth. In an entirely affectionate manner, of course.

He dodged just in time, grabbing her foot. "~No kicking Julio in the face,~" he admonished playfully. He pulled her back to him. "~Gotcha.~"

There was the sound of someone on the stairs, and Nathan gave the two of them an amused look as he reached the lower level of the boathouse and saw the two of them in mid-wrestle. "Ray, I'm going to start locking your nursery door at night..." His daughter blew a raspberry at him.

"No," Julio said, moving his head away so Rachel couldn't grab his nose. "~No you can't have that.~" He turned to Nathan and smiled. "Good morning."

"Good morning. Hold onto the munchkin for me?" Nathan asked as he moved through and into the kitchen. "This having only one arm nonsense is for the birds."

"No problem." Julio said, as Rachel tried to lurch out of his arms.

She's frisky in the morning," Nathan said dryly. "You may have noticed." He then set about setting up the coffemaker with one hand and no TK. It was harder than it looked.

"She is too young to try out luchador moves on me when I am asleep. I am happy." Rachel had wiggled out of his arms and was now inspecting the sheets on his hide-a-bed.

"Give her time," Nathan said and yawned.
