Sep. 1st, 2006 01:29 pmIn Ororo's garden, Angel meets Kurt for the first time. And declares him the coolest person in the mansion.
At first, Angel had been feeling a little odd about roaming Ms. Munroe's garden but she had gotten permission and she really did want to take pictures. The place was breath taking and the lighting that came in was just perfect. Stopping by a bench, she set her bag down.
"How on earth did she get all of this up here?" she muttered to herself, standing on the bench to get a better angle with her camera.
"She had help, with some of the larger pieces", came a voice from the shadows, giving the impression of a smile. "Teleportation has many uses."
Jumping a good foot off the bench, it was totally to her credit that she didn't fall off. Even if she did get her foot tangled up in the straps to her bag. Hopping around in place as she tried to untangle herself without pitching into the plants, she glanced at the shadows-who-held-a-person. "Um, I'm going to totally assume you're a person and, you know, not a talking plant?" Angel paused. "Ohhh, teleportation?"
Kurt stepped forward into the light, bending down to help untangle her foot. "A person, yes. I do not think we have any talking plants in the mansion yet. I am sorry I startled you."
"Thanks." Wiggling her foot slightly, she jumped down and then stared for a second. "Oh, no wonder I didn't see you there." Angel stared again and then held out her hand. "Uh, no worries on the startling, I'm Angel Jones and you are the coolest looking person I have seen here. Was that rude of me to say? I'm still trying to figure out the whole mutant thing but you are blue and that's awesome!"
Kurt blinked for several seconds at her effusiveness, before recovering and shaking her hand. "Kurt Wagner. And... thank you. It was not rude at all."
Angel beamed. "Oh good because…" Anything she was about to say came to abrupt halt when she noticed his tail. "Eee youhaveatail! That's even cuter than Kyle's ears and God knows I'll never live that one down…or…possibly live the fact that I just called your tail cute down…"
He couldn't help laughing, despite the faint blush. "I... do not believe anyone has ever called my tail cute before."
"Well, they should because it is!" Angel leaned over to the side to watch it, grinning all the way. "Man, I just set stuff on fire…possibly myself. You have the coolest powers." And she meant it. "Where are you from? I recognize the accent but I can't place it."
"Bavaria," he told her with a smile, adding helpfully, "In Germany."
"Oh! I've heard of Bavaria…I've never been there but I've had Bavarian cream before. Which is totally not the same thing. Wow, you're a long way from home, what did you do over there?"
"I was an acrobat", he said proudly. "In the circus my mother runs. Now, I am a teacher."
"You were in the circus?" Angel repeated, clapping her hands as she laughed. "Oh my God, if possible you just got totally cooler." Circus, fairs, carnivals were all fascinating to her and she made every attempt at going to them as often as possible.
He was beaming, by now, if with a touch of embarrassment. He wasn't used to such exuberant praise. "If you would like, perhaps a school trip might be arranged in the future."
"I really, really would. I used to go a lot with my dad and, well, I think it would add a little more normal back to my life? I love this place and everyone but I'm still getting adjusted to it all. And to, you know, the whole "Flame on, whoosh!" thing."
"Flame on, whoosh?" he repeated curiously. "You are... a pyrokinetic?" He hadn't completely got track of all the new
students and their powers, just yet.
"Yep, I make microwaves which set things on fire. I haven't had a lot of practice yet but I fully plan to work hard on getting it under control." Angel gave a slightly sadder smile. "It can hurt people, you know?"
"Many powers can", he told her sympathetically. "But the fact that you want to control it so that you will not says a great many things in your favour."
Now it was her turn to blush a little bit. "I can't let myself be scared of it because I noticed it flairs up according to emotions and it's a part of me, right? It's like being scared of your arm or something. And it doesn't do much now but they were saying if it's like Shiro's I should be able to do all sorts of stuff with it later. And I want to get to the cool parts instead of where I'm at."
"And you are in exactly the right place for that", he told her encouragingly. "And... you should be a little scared, perhaps, until you learn to control it. That is natural. But do not let it get in your way."
"That makes sense and I won't, I promise." She glanced at her watch and eeped slightly. "I promised Julio and Kyle I'd meet them for lunch, so I have to run." Reaching down, she snagged her bag and stood up, hesitating. She wasn't really much one for physical contact but he just looked like someone who didn't get enough hugs. And he'd promised to take her to the circus, after all.
Biting her lip, she darted in to give Kurt a quick hug before bouncing back again and running for the door. "Nice to meet you, Mr. W!" she said, cheerfully.
That got another few seconds' blinking before he raised a hand to wave to her back. "And you, Angel. I will... see you in class?"
