Log: The Snow Battle Continues
Dec. 9th, 2006 01:42 pmWhile Medusa may have upped the stakes in the snow battle, Angel takes refuge with the largest redhead, and brings out the heavy artillery against Julio...
"Aaaaaaaahhhhh!"
Never let it be said that Angel didn't have a good pair of lungs on her. Arms clenched around her head to protect herself from the pelting snow, she ran pell mell for the safety of where the Red Heads had set up camp. "No fair!" she yelled at whoever was insisting on throwing snow at her back. No, make that at her butt. And with that she dove over the wall and landed on the other side, nearly face planting in the process.
Cain lay flat on his back in the snow, slowly packing more handfuls of the white powder between his palms. "If you're gonna be a target," he drawled lazily, "learn to keep your butt down. Now, how many of them are standing up right now?"
Staring at him, Angel nonetheless rolled over onto her stomach and cautiously peeked over the top of the impacted snow bank. "Four...nope, never mind, someone got taken out with a snowball to the groin. Ow. Three still standing. One's even jumping up and down like a looney."
A wicked smile crossed the massive groundskeeper's face. "Direction and distance?"
"Hrm." Angel grinned, she was good at judging distance. "Less than ten feet away, all of them, sir. One is directly north of me and the other two are on either side of him, a couple of feet in between them for space."
Rolling onto his side and frowning at the small avalanche of snow dislodged in the process, Cain hefted a compacted snowball the size of a spare tire in one hand. "How good are you at heating up a moving target?" he asked, peering out to where Kyle and Julio were crisscrossing paths, gathering snow for more ammunition.
"I've got not idea, Mr. Marko," she admitted, but there was already a fine sheen of blue crackling around her body as she grinned at him. "But I'm always willing to try new things, you know?" Angel eyed the amount of snow in his hand and giggled. "It's like bringing the mountain right to them! Ready when you are!"
Glancing over at where Julio was crouching to gather more snow, Cain flung his arm forward like a catapult, sending the massive sphere of ice arcing high into the sky, hitting its highest point directly above the young mutant. Nodding to Angel, Cain shouted "Now!"
It was harder than she thought it would have been, concentrating on following the object and forcing the warmth inside of her towards it. And it moved fast. But she managed to warm it up just enough, right when he needed it to and she peered over the wall a little to see the end results.
Which was both soggy and glorious, as Julio looked up just in time to see gallons of watery slush raining from the sky down onto him. Cain and Angel both laughed out loud, giving a high-five that was drowned out by a sudden rumble around them.
"What the...?" Cain managed to mouth, looking over to see Julio staring intently at... not the two of them, but the large oak tree behind them, its branches laden with snow.
Smiling, he raised a hand.
"Ah shit," Cain grumbled, half a second before both he and Angel were completely buried in an avalanche of snow.
Silence echoed through the trees before the mound of snow started to shake...and melt. Angel's head popped up as she gasped for air, the blue fire around her more obvious as she used it to melt the snow that was preventing her from moving very much. "I'm going to kick your Spanish butt!" she yelled, literally steaming as the snow turned into water.
Cain hooted with laughter as he found himself kneeling in a sudden dry patch, the snow around them sublimating directly to steam as Angel flared up. Rising to his feet, he reached down for another handful of snow. "Cool down already and get him! I'll cover you!" Taking a step forward, he raised his other hand to his mouth, shouting "You'll never take us -- you'll never take her alive!"
Turning her power off with a snap, Angel grinned like a maniac. Climbing to her feet, she took a running start, clearing the wall, as she let out a war whoop. As she neared, Julio--who was covering his head and backing up under Cain's assault--she laughed as she tackled him, sending them both into the snow.
Julio managed an "Oof" before he was downed by the redheaded missile. He was still soaked and colder than he had ever been in his entire life, and was loving every second of it. He used this opportunity to shove snow down Angel's jacket. Not that she could feel it, but it was the thought that counted.
