Reunited at last, our two favorite solar-powered plasma wielders decide to keep away from the ball and watch martial arts movies instead. And then, it finally happens. Yes, it. How long will it last and will they come out of it okay? Only time will tell.

Having recently traveled halfway across the hemisphere, Shiro was still a little jet-lagged, and he used that as his official excuse to not attend the winter ball. The real reasons were that he didn't have anyone to go with, he wasn't a student anymore and didn't want to look like a skeezy old man, and he was being very protective of Alex, with whom he was sharing a room for now.

They'd decided that it would be best to just spend the night in. No girlfriends (or exes for that matter), no volcanoes, no powers, no nothing. Just two friends who haven't spent much time together in months finally taking the time to catch up. Assisted by Jet Li, Chow Yun Fat, and Tony Jaa on DVDs.

Alex didn't know any of the new kids; that was his excuse for not going and anybody who knew him would know he was lying through his teeth, but those people would know that he was avoiding a certain green haired women who was a vision in purple this evening. He was still shaken up from their encounter earlier, where he had been blatantly reminded that they were 'just' friends. Normally he would be amused at Shiro's overprotection but tonight...tonight he really didn't mind.

"So, whose martial art styling are you going to make fun of first?" Alex asked in a way to ask which movie they would be watching as he sat in front of the DVD player waiting to put in a movie. He looked over his shoulder at Shiro, blond hair flopping everywhere.

Shiro handed Alex the bowl of popcorn so he could pick up the remote and start the movie. "I actually like Jaa," he said as the opening credits to Ong Bak began. "The way he moves and strikes is actually quite beautiful. For a boxer."

Taking the bowl as he stood up, Alex moved off the floor after putting the DVD in the player, and joined Shiro on the couch. "This is a Japanese boxing movie?" Alex asked in amusement, having never though such a think existed as he set the bowl in between them in stuff a few pieces in his mouth.

"Thai," Shiro corrected. "Their popular form of martial arts is similar to kick boxing in some ways. I think that I want to learn it, but I do not have time for it. And Mister al-Rashid would chide me for engaging in yet another form of showiness and not practicality."

"Oh right, sorry." Alex was getting better at knowing the difference between things like that but he still stumbled. Thankfully, Shiro never held it against him. "Speaking of, you are going to help me with my self-defense stuff right?" He had nothing against Angelo as a teacher...just he'd prefer not being so pathetically worse then the younger kids. He had some pride after all.

"I was actually considering letting Leyu-chan teach you . . ." A snort was Shiro's response to the look on Alex's face at that suggestion. "But I see that might be a conflict of interest, ne?"

That earned him a pillow cushion to the head. "Does she still have that crush on me?" He snorted softly. "We better discourage it soon, what with my luck." He meant it kiddingly...but it didn't quite come out that way. "Sorry."

Shiro thwapped Alex with the pillow in return. "I thought we agreed to not talk about this. You are back, you are safe, and we will take measures to ensure that this will not happen again. You know what Lo . . . the women do every so often? Go to Harry's and drink for every self-deprecating comment they make. Do we have to institute that rule here? Not that I have any alcohol to pour down your throat."

Normally, Alex would have kidded that off...but tonight, things were too fresh and too sore. He got an odd gleam in his eye. "I know where some is that won't be missed..." And would be petty revenge but still...

The last (and only) time Shiro had consumed to get drunk, it had been with Logan on sake in memoriam to Mariko. It hadn't been nearly as bad as he'd thought. So doing it with Alex couldn't hurt. He nodded and paused the movie. "If I do not know where it is from, then no one can blame me when it goes missing."

"What's your poison?" Alex asked as he stood up, cocking an eyebrow as he grinned. "I think there some of everything..."

Shiro shrugged. "Whatever you bring is fine, I suppose. I am quite the opposite of a connoisseur. Just so long as it is palatable."

With a small shrug, Alex headed out towards Lorna's room. Five minutes later, he was back with a bottle of vodka and a bottle of rum. "Variety?" He said with a grin as he held up the two bottles. Sitting back on the couch, he put the vodka bottle on the table and picked up his glass of coke, pouring rum into it. He took a sip and grinned. "Much better."

Shiro picked up the bottle of vodka and examined it. "Two proof is one percent alcohol content, yes?" he asked as he came across the little writing that read "80 proof." Sake was only a fraction of that, he recalled. But when in Rome, he supposed. So he poured some into his own soda and sipped that. The grimace he wore would be a memorable image.

"Uh...I think?" Was Alex's response before he burst out laughing at Shiro's expression. "Dude!"

"This is foul." But he swallowed it anyway. He realized belatedly that drinking to get drunk was probably on the list of prohibited activities for a recovering addict. But, he rationalized, Alex was there, there was no Kick in the mansion or anywhere else he knew of, and if addiction was going to transfer from one substance to another, then better alcohol than mutant crack. A poster boy of stable chemical health, he is.

For one of the few times in his life, Alex was being consciously selfish. He wanted to not think so badly that he didn't mind trying alcohol. He swallowed another large mouthful of coke and rum before standing up and going to the small fridge in the kitchenette. Rummaging for a moment, he brought out a bottle of orange juice. "Hey try this." He offered the bottle as he came back over. "Jared liked vodka in juice. Wasn't bad really."

That tasted much better. It still had the obvious alcoholic burn which Shiro didn't much care for, but the bitterness was masked by the juice's sweetness and tartness. "So is this what they teach you in real college?" he asked, pouring himself a second drink.

Alex chuckled as he too poured himself some more soda and added rum. "Yup. And since me and Jared were responsible about our drinking, his older sister didn't mind buying for us." Picking up the remote, he re started the movie and snuggled back into the cushions of the couch.

Consuming two vodka drinks rapidly when he's a.) Asian and b.) still barely at the proper weight was having an effect on Shiro. He felt a little dizzy and his stomach rumbled. He decided to go more slowly with the third drink and laid back into the couch. "So you did this often, then?" he asked, forcing himself to just sip. "Any embarrassing stories of inebriation that you want to tell me?"

Hearing Shiro's stomach rumbled, Alex picked up the nearby pizza box and held it out to him. "You tried to sell off a picture of me in a grass skirt, I don't think I owe you any embarrassing stories." He perked an eyebrow at the other. "Oh yeah, wasn't so asleep as I seemed bro." He was grinning and feeling giddy, his usual reaction to alcohol.

"Oi, no one took me up on my offer," Shiro countered. He took for himself a slice and ate it in just four bites. "I suppose that I will be keeping it for myself, ne? Maybe I will set it was the background for my desktop."

That set off Alex into a fit of hysterical giggles, before taking another sip. "You love me that much huh?" His tone was teasing, since Shiro's normal desktop was reserved only for anime girls and Ms Braddock.

Maybe. Shiro downed the rest of his drink. "In your dreams," was the actual vocalized reply, which was accompanied by another thwap with the pillow. "You would like that too much."

"Oh yes, because I dream of my ass hanging out on your computer." Alex rolled his eyes as he tried to duck the pillow. "You should talk to Jared...I'm sure he has just as incriminating pictures of me that don't make me look emaciated." And he was running off at the mouth, another sign that the drinking was affecting him, as he downed another glass. Alex had in fact been right in that he had filled out again in a few days, his tan back to its healthy brown even.

"Not emaciated. Just . . . anou, a girlish figure. I like girlish." Shiro shifted uncomfortably in his seat. The room felt warmer than usual. Or was that just him? He looked down at his hands, and thankfully they weren't burning. Couldn't have been him, then. It was just the room. Phew.

It was not the room, though the flush on Alex face would suggest otherwise. He playfully glared at Shiro, "Your calling me girlish?" Yes he was ignoring the part where Shiro said he liked girlish, but not because he didn't like it...it just didn't fit into his mock annoyance routine.

"Maybe. A little. Yes," Shiro decided finally. His speech was more than just a little slurred. "Maybe if you cut your hair and stopped wearing skirts, then I wouldn't call you out."

Alex ran a hand through his hair that while long, really only hung around the back of neck. "It's not that bad!" And he playfully punched Shiro in the arm. "And the skirt wasn't my idea...it was some Hawaiian voodoo thing." Then he grinned and laid his head playfully in Shiro's lap, looking up at him. "I thought you said you liked girlish?"

Shiro patted Alex's head awkwardly. "Do you want me to like you?" he asked, hoping that his tone was teasing. "I will have to give you a sword to make you an image of lust for me, ne?"

Giggling at the idea, Alex was enjoying this, all of this. He was relaxed and wasn't sure it was all the alcohol's doing. "Except you wouldn't because A) you'd be afraid I'd poke my eye out and B) you'd like me better if I admired your skill with one" He stuck out his tongue as if this proved his point. "And you like me already."

"'You're gonna poke your eye out! You're gonna poke you eye out!'" Shiro chanted. His own distaste for Christmas aside, he really did love that movie. "You are correct. I am already entranced and there is nothing I can do about it."

Now that earned Alex a grin. Before he'd blown up that first year, he'd introduced Shiro to that movie, since he'd never seen it before and that was just a crime. In a way, he kind of missed those times, when it was just him and Shiro, being best friends together. They hadn't had nearly enough of them since Alex had gone to school in Hawaii. "Damn right." He said with a small nod, then playfully frowned. "You’re not some vengeful Japanese god are you?"

Shiro missed it, too. He'd been not so secretly ecstatic when Alex told him his plans for the near future. And he was sure that Tommy would understand the need for a change in living arrangements. "No, I do not think so. Vengeful, yes, but not a god as far as I know. Why?"

"Well, you know my track record. I'd hate to see you go all evil and godlike on me. I'd miss you." He was teasing again but not nearly as much as before. He would miss Shiro, a lot. In fact, he was saying more then he should, thanks to the alcohol. "Plus I love you too damn much, bro." He meant brotherly...really.

"You say the sweetest things," Shiro managed to say around the lump in his throat. It was growing steadily more difficult to speak in English, and that showed in the thickening accent that he usually kept imperceptible. "And I thought that is only a problem if we were involved that way. But I promise you, if we were, then I would not power-rape you."

Alex cringed slightly at the choice of words but his features went back to their relaxed half smile rather quickly as he sat up to hide the earlier discomfort. "That's reassuring. It shouldn't be because dude, who says that...but in this case. Thanks." Of course, sitting up put them really close together, especially when Alex leaned his shoulder on the pillows as he looked at Shiro through his bangs. "You’re already ahead of all of my girlfriends I've had since coming here, dude." Okay, so Lorna was more of an emotional wound then powers...but then as a mutant was there much difference?

"Remember what I told you in Hawaii? It is celibacy for you." He reached over to brush some hair out of Alex's face, which reminded him of the other option he'd given his friend. The thought made him blush even deeper.

Unfortunately for Shiro, Alex caught the blush and used it as an excuse not to comment outright. Instead he grinned. Okay, alcohol made him flirty too, no wonder Vida had never let him drink when she was around. "or gay. In Hawaii you said I could be celibate or gay. or well bi really because dude, still love girls. But right...would you even let me date a guy? You haven't left my side except when I'm with Scott since you found me in the lab." He was amused but curious all the same, since it was basically true. The over protectiveness was...cute. And his tone wasn't helping, but in his blissful state, the teasing was fun. Teasing...right.

Shiro needed another drink before he could continue this conversation. The vodka had barely reached the juice by the time it burned its way down his throat. "I did not hear you complaining about my company," he finally managed to say. "You like it and you want it so there."

"I never said I didn't," Alex said, his amused grin still on his face, "but you also didn't answer my question." Well it had turned into another question...'would you let me date a boy that isn't you?'

"~I don't think I'm drunk enough for this~," Shiro whispered in Japanese, finding it difficult to peel his reddening eyes away from Alex's. "Since when do I get rights of approval over whom you date? Why did I not know about this privilege earlier?"

"You've always had it, dumbass. You think I would date anyone you didn't like? You’re my best friend dude." And he was deadly serious even if his tone was still light.

"You are the dumbass," Shiro pouted, jutting out his lower lip. "At least the only girl I have ever dated was psychotic in the normal girl way." He stuck his tongue out for emphasis. Not that he knew what he was emphasizing, but it felt good anyway.

"Maybe I like psychopaths...are you a psychopath?" Alex asked, his eyes going into puppy mood, why he wanted to beg he had no idea.

"If that is what you want," Shiro offered. Possibly even sincerely, but he wasn't sure. What he was sure of was that Alex was giving him that look, which he normally reserved for when there was something he really really wanted. And that they were sitting very close to each other. And that Alex's breath smelled heavily of rum and Hawaii.

Shiro's smelled of oranges and a underlying scent of spring when the sun was shining really bright...and before he even finished that thought or even thought at all, Alex had closed the distance between them, kissing one of the few people he felt truly safe around at the moment.

Last time this happened, it had been Shiro who's prerogative. It had been followed by a number of self-deprecating jokes on his sexuality and some assertions on Alex's, so really the last thing he was expecting was for Alex to take the lead. But it was certainly welcomed. Shiro returned the kiss, sloppily at first, savoring the sweet taste on Alex's lips.

It certainly hadn't been expected on Alex's end either, especially since he hadn't planned on being this intimate with anyone for a while, because really...track record, hello! But this was Shiro...Shiro wouldn't hurt him. He was the one person besides Scott and his grandparents that Alex was really sure about that statement. This? This was comfort on the most basic of levels. Moving closer, he deepened it slightly not sure if it was welcome or if Shiro was just appeasing him.

Shiro hungrily acquiesced, letting Alex's tongue part his lips. His hands wandered to Alex's waist, shaking a little as he pulled at his shirt. Not that he was trying to undress Alex, but his hands needed to be doing something. They really didn't want any fires to start. At least there weren't any oak trees around this time.

Alex smiled as they kissed and put his hands over Shiro's, letting his body absorb Shiro's power so nothing was damaged. He now knew this was mutual and while not sure what to make of it, didn't want to stop either.

Shiro hadn't even considered what the effect on his mutation would be. He felt Alex drawing out his excess energy just as he was drawing in Alex's. The loop had an sobering effect on him, lifting the mental fog. He could almost think clearly. And surprisingly, the first thoughts that came to mind were not telling him what a bad idea this was or ordering him to stop. Quite the opposite, in fact. And always one to follow his gut, Shiro did just so, and laid down on the couch, pulling Alex on top of him.

Laughing slightly when the kiss broke for a moment, Alex let himself be pulled down as their power loop had done the same to him and he'd been rewarded with the reassuring thought that Shiro would never use him for his powers...because there wasn't really a point with the way their powers worked together. Add to that his feelings of safety around the other boy and this was the best drunken idea ever.

"Alex . . ." It was part moan, part plea, part pause. Despite his own urgings and enforced mental blocks, he'd fantasized about this moment before. A million possible scenarios ran through his head now, and he had no clue which one to pursue.

That would have creeped Alex out just a little as he'd never fantasized about anyone except Lorna. But what was going on right now? Weird kinda but so not with the creepy. Still, at the sound of his name, Alex lifted his head, blond hair falling around his face. "You okay bro?" He asked carefully, just wanting to be sure they were both in on this. Given recent events, Alex was allowed some insecurity.

"Are you?" Shiro retorted. "I mean, I am. This all . . . I-I don't want to do anything y-we'll regret in the morning." The last thing either of them wanted was for their relationship to turn into a bad teen movie. Or a teen movie in general.

"Shiro...I started it...I don't regret it either." Alex smiled but it turned sad. "I'm just a little...tender right now. Go slow with me, okay?" It wasn't so much Vida that was tender...no it was still Lorna, the wound still at times feeling as fresh as the day she had walked out. Alex didn't do well on his own, he knew his crutch was that he needed someone around. And right now, Alex kinda wanted Shiro as that person, he just wasn't sure.

Shiro could accept that. It was frightening to think that this could go on beyond a 'this feels good right now' comfort hook-up. So he nodded, propped himself up on his elbows and kissed Alex again tenderly. Whatever Alex wanted, Shiro would provide. Because had their situations been reversed, he knew that Alex would do the same thing to him.

(The lack of tact in this comment brought to you by the next 3 minutes where I find my shoes, find Twiller's shoes and make him get me pancakes since he didn't manage to get me any last night.)
