Kurt and Logan at Harry's, Sunday night
Jan. 7th, 2007 09:53 pmThey both happen to be at the bar at the same time. Drinking happens, and Logan convinces Kurt to start showing his true face.
It had been a while since Logan had just sat in Harry's and enjoyed a dozen or so beers. But today he was in a shots kind of mood so he had one of Harry's shotglasses and a bottle of rum before him. Black as night and sweet as sin - it suited his mood.
Kurt wasn't usually much of a drinking man. But after that trip back to Youra... well, all the team who'd been there both times had been a little off-kilter since. So when he walked in and saw Logan, he didn't ask Harry for a drink of his own, but for an extra shotglass, before joining the other man.
Logan almost didn't recognize the slender dark-haired man who sat down uninvited in his booth bearing a shotglass. But the unearthly agility with which he moved and the faint scent of ozone tipped him off - image inducer. "Hey, elf." Logan said by way of greeting. Then poured him a shot of rum.
"Logan", he said with a tilt of his head in return greeting, lifting the glass as thanks and not querying the recognition. "How are you today?"
"Same old, same old." he said, then tossed back a shot. He was worried about Gar, but Kurt didn't need to know that. "You?"
That got a moment's consideration. "Much better than this time last year", Kurt finally decided. "Or even this time last month."
Logan just grinned at that. "You get the number for that Greek girl before we left? You know, the one who could suck the chrome off a bumper and liked to breathe deeply?" he added with a grin.
Kurt blushed more than a little at that, the image inducer translating it to the dark-haired man's face. "I did not... I mean. There was nothing, with the Greek girl."
Logan just sighed at that. "So much for the Rom, great seducers of women." he said, but he smiled as he said it. "Come on, Kurt, live a little! Stop hiding behind the doohickey."
Kurt gave him a rueful grin. "The Rom for the most part do not look like demons", he pointed out. "Stefan was always the more confident... and it is not hiding."
"We won't even talk about your sister." he said with a feral grin. "And you _are_ blue and fuzzy. You're hiding, you coward." he said, but in a friendly tone. "For that, you take the next shot."
"No, we will not." It was only a slight warning, and he lifted the shotglass in front of him and drank. "So, what? I should turn off the image inducer and leave this bar like that? It is one thing to do it here..."
"Man up and live life as you, not this thing you hide behind." he urged. "Be a good example for the littles." he said, twisting the knife. He knew Kurt was fond of the children. He then matched Kurt's example and poured and downed another shot. "Start small - get the folks in Salem Center used to you being who and what you are."
That did hit home. Hadn't he told Yvette just the other day she shouldn't be afraid to go to Angel's birthday party, even if it was off campus? And yet here he was, in the habit of putting on a false face. He nodded slowly. "Perhaps I will, at that." His hand went to the switch of the image inducer.
"Good man." he said, satisfied. Then he poured a shot, saluted Kurt with it, and tossed it back. "Yo, Harry!" Logan called out to the man behind the bar. "Got a friend of mine I want you to meet." As the man ambled down the bar, Logan grinned at Kurt. "This here's Kurt Sefton, and he's a friend of mine." he said, making introductions. "Kurt, this here's Harry, the best damned barkeep in all New York."
Kurt smiled at him, with no nervousness. He knew he could trust Harry, at least, not to be anti-mutant. "Hello."
Harry just grunted a hello and held out a hand for Kurt to take. "Pleased to meetcha." he said, not seeming terribly put-off by Kurt's demonic appearance. "Ken I getcha sumthin'?"
Kurt shook his hand readily, and turned to look at the rum bottle. "Logan? Do you think we need any more?"
"Given the occasion here of my friend's decision to let his balls drop, I'm thinking we need schnapps." Logan told Harry, who grinned back at Logan. "Bottle of whatever you've got." he told Harry, who obediently went off to fetch it.
Kurt leaned back in his side of the booth, seeming a little more relaxed just for that one small move. "Schnapps it is, then. I think we can trust his stock to be good."

And the idea of Kurt defending Amanda's honour is just too cute.
