Following getting her phone working again and receiving a string of messages from Juanita, Amanda comes by the mansion to apologise in person.

It was a rather flustered witch who came tapping at the door of the guest suite Juanita had occupied during her vigil at the mansion. It was true that the latest message had let her know Angelo was fine and the crisis was over, but the fact Angelo had been in danger at all and she hadn't known was bothering her a lot.

"I'm so sorry!" she burst out, as soon as the door opened. "My phone died and I was in archives!"

Juanita blinked at her, then stepped aside automatically to let her in, watched by a curious but sleepy labrador. "It's all right, Amanda. I wanted to keep you up to date, but... I never thought you weren't getting the messages at all."

Automatically reaching down to pat Joyita's head, Amanda took a breath and tried to calm down. "Neither did I, 'til I went to check it last night after talking to Remy. I forgot to charge the bloody thing." She gave the older woman a careful once-over - she looked tired, but that was to be expected. "You all right? Must've been hell, waiting back here for word."

"Not the easiest night I've ever spent", she admitted ruefully, ushering Amanda to a chair. "But it's over now, and he's safe. So I'm just fine."

"I've had all the worry packed into the time it took me to check all my messages," Amanda admitted, waiting until Juanita had sat before taking a seat. "But they would've looked after you all right here at least."

"They certainly did", Juanita agreed. "Nathan even took the time to call from Moscow, once he knew more."

"Fu... um, cripes, he must have been out of his mind." Amanda wasn't so distracted that she'd swear in front of Angelo's mother. "And Ange is gunna have to work to convince Nate to let him go anywhere else on his own after this." Now she was sitting, the tension was visibly draining, the lines of her shoulders relaxing. "I'm in two minds about that myself, mind." It was only half-joking, not that she could stop him doing anything he wanted to do.

Juanita smiled wryly. "Even Nathan will have his work cut out stopping him, once the shock of this time wears off. Take it from someone who's tried."

"How's he handling it? Angelo and the shock, I mean?" Amanda caught herself about to start chewing on her thumbnail and stopped herself. "He was a bit shaken up after Smichov."

"As far as I can tell... better than he did then", she answered slowly. "Nathan didn't say anything about nightmares when they were flying back, anyway."

"I'll keep an eye on him, make sure he's sleeping okay," Amanda immediately promised, and then blushed. "Um, that's to say I'm not there when he's sleeping, but I can poke him and make sure he's all right. Maybe get Forge and Sarah in on it." The tips of her ears were scarlet as she stammered to a halt.

Juanita laughed, looking at the girl warmly. "Don't worry, Amanda. I know what you meant."

Amanda resisted the urge to bury her face in her hands and succumb to death by blushing. Why was it she could control her facial expressions with any other subject of conversation? "Well, I guess with him on the team something like this was bound to happen. But he's got plenty of people looking out for him."

"It's just an irony that he wasn't there for anything to do with the team", Juanita said with another wry smile. "And yes, I know he does. I'm glad of it."

"Well, seems to be the way of it, coincidence biting us on the arse," Amanda said, just as wryly. She looked around the room, seeing Juanita had already made the bed and collected her belongings. "You heading back to the city soon? I could give you a lift after you're done with Ange." Because of course she'd want to see him again before she went home.

She hadn't had much to gather, not having expected to stay long. It hadn't taken much time. She nodded. "If you're going my way - I mean, beyond the brownstone and your office. I know Angelo would, but there's no need if you're going already."

"Pete let me have the morning off - he said something like: "you're going to be sodding useless until you go and check on him so get out of here'"." Amanda chuckled. "And he was right, too. But yeah, I can give you and Joyita a lift home, if she's not staying here. I'd say Ange needs a break and it's something I can do, you know?"

"I think she'll be staying here for awhile longer", Juanita answered, looking down at the dog. "I doubt Angelo's going to be working this week, so he won't be too busy to look after her."

"And she'd probably be good for him too. Maybe I should send Sarah his way too - he'll get plenty of distraction that way." Her grin was slightly wicked.

Juanita laughed. "It probably couldn't hurt. You know how he gets sometimes."

"Yeah, that I do."
